Just bought one today at an auction.
Everything seems to be working fine. Paid 7.00. Good choice of music. VH.

I have this model. I had to replace belts and the idler wheel rubber. It works perfectly now but adjusting the auto-reverse potentiometer was not fun! I am happy to have it.

@hainwheels Although the music played at the beginning of this video seems almost hilarious to me now, it's the deck itself that caught my attention. You see, I purchased this deck when I was in uniform overseas and I still have it (somewhere). The reason that I stopped using it -- yes, I still have a butt load of cassettes -- was because the "auto-reverse" mechanism it was famous for starting giving me a lot of trouble. It seems that you've got some experience with RX-202 troubles, so I thought that I'd ask you how you would go about getting something like this looked at. Needles to say, it would have to be something that could be repaired without a lot of expense involved...but I'm willing to look into it, regardless. Thank you for your time.

@@bt5526 Tell me what kind of trouble you are experiencing with the auto-reverse. There is a belt involved and unless the machine has been apart that it likely the source of trouble. Once the machine is apart, the trickiness is getting the potentiometer into the proper orientation. Don't forget that the deck will never present the B side of a tape to you. If you eject while B side is active, it will flip to A upon eject. But let's start with understanding what's going on.

@@halnwheels Thank for the kind response. I haven't operated it for quite some time now, but it wouldn't respond properly to the REVERSE button and, in fact, it wouldn't open properly, either. I need to plug it in and test it again to get a good fix on its exact issues. Regardless, I'm very glad to read that it's possible to work on it. Perhaps I should set up a "dump" email address, so that we can correspond about this? By the way, it has never been opened up for any reason -- and it's still in close to pristine condition.

Wow...this takes me back. I used to own one of these. Fantastic sound. Unfortunately, as with all things mechanical, with time it wore out, the rec/play button quit working so it was basically useless.

And you didn't bother to get it serviced?

full video is pushing buttons and playing. But this one has very interesting reverse feature. Do you know it? And there is no demo of reverse in this video? even once.

Auto reverse is when the deck automatically pulls the tape cartridge out (at the end of tape run), turns it 180-degrees, reinserts it and begins playing again. Manual reverse is when the operator presses to "REVERSE" button and the deck goes through the same order of operations. I realize that it can be confusing, but it was this deck's ability to do this that made it very unique.
