    I moved to Colombia and I live in Bogota, It reminds me New York City with some European vibes in the museums, parks, cousine and the variety of the Spanish, British, German, French and Italian architecture in a city with a lot of latino culture at the same time, It's so weird but certainly interesting to find all that mix in a latin american city, of course Medellin is such a beautiful city to live as well, I use to visit often and totally agreed you have to visit both and feel your thing, maybe I just prefer largest cities I guess. Such a great video guys!

    My choice would be none of the largest cities in any country. Medellin used to be a great city. They were not prepared for the Digital Nomad Visa to bring in so many foreigners so quickly. Try visiting the 5th, 6th or 7th largest cities in Colombia.

      Agreed! - The smaller towns are more authentic and charming... I think the only thing we tend to miss is the international cuisine when you venture further from the main cities.

    Been to Bogota 4x, Medellin 3x, Barranquilla 2x and Bucaramanga once in the last year and overall I dig the quirky/dystopian nature of Bogota and that it has a lot of cute little parks sprawled in its city center and is fairly walkable safe areas. Still challenging to adjusting to the attitude thing when getting my exercise on. Medellin feels a bit more scary at times especially at night even in the nice areas because of the dense jungle foliage and the creepies hiding amongst it. That said MDE does have a special tingley vibe about it that triggers my spidey sense for good and worse. Barranquilla has a pretty decent healthy food scene, but just too hot to roam around in anything but a loin cloth at times. Bucaramanga is a cool 5 syllable word that I can repeat to myself whenever I'm in a jam...

    Bogota D.C, definitely has better night life than Medellin and the majority of the Latin American cities, the music scene in the capital is huge and diversity, in Medellin is more reggaeton and the typical tropical city scenario. In addition, you gave the point to Medellin just because is not cold and not hot outside night... that doesn't describe anything about night live.

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple  7 місяців тому +4

      Yes! Bogota does tend to have a wider variety of just about everything, including music. I think because Bogota has so much going on that that can be the thing that is so off putting about it. It is a very large city.

      In Bogotá you can find everything like Boulevardier, the speakeasy at the Casa Medina. The food and cocktails were bomb and it looks like a real speakeasy with dimmed lights, a chimney and they play French music in a very low volume. It is pricey, though. One of the cocktails costed like 60k. The food was tiny but delicious.

      We like cycling but... It's pretty crazy with the roads, motor cycles, cars, busses, and trucks that all share the same road.... Many people on the weekend cycle the Ciclovia and that's when they block off the roads... But, if you go to Bogota you're going to find a large cycling culture. Since we have not explored it ourselves, I advise doing some research and join maybe some Facebook groups... Because each time we go on a road trip outside of Bogota there are groups of cycles either doing the Eastern Hills (Cerrors Orientales), or biking the road that's north of bogota to Chia and beyond, or even going west toward Girordat.

    Tell me you have only been to poblado and laureles without telling me.
    Hiking: tres cruces is just a small trail. Romeral forest literally covers all of the south área of the aburra valley, with ancient trails connecting with neighbouring towns, it provides and regulates most of the fresh air to the valley, in envigado, la estrella, sabaneta there are indigenous ruins, trails, rivers and waterfalls 20 mins walk from the main parks. This is just a little insight from my end and only speaking about the south of the city… I Know you are tourists but do the research and perhaps make videos highlighting how both cities are so different yet so culturally, naturally rich 🤷🏻‍♂️

      @lifetheorycouple  Місяць тому

      Thank you for the view and comment! - Completely wrong however.
      Tell me how you make assumptions and comment without considering the full message of a video without tell.
      If you watch some of our other videos you will see how we are more than tourist. We have lived together in Colombia for over 2 years. And Widny is from Bogota. We have been to Medellin 4 time in the past, and more recently we stayed a entire month in Belen area to explore and get a feel for Medellin outside of the typical tourist areas (Poblado and Laureles). --- We have even spent time in Caldes and Amaga which are south of Medellin. --- There is a lot more hiking to discover in both Bogota and Medellin areas, we admit. But regarding Medellin, it does appear you must get out of the city to find a good hike. Bogota on the other hand has a public service ran by Acueducto (www.acueducto.com) in which they regulate the number of people who can do the hikes in the Cerros Orientales. And all these hikes are in the actual city of Bogota, not a neighboring city. This is why we make this criticism. --- Perhaps you can watch minute 11:02 where we mention that preference is key and encourage people to discover both places on their own to do there own vibe checks. No winner was announced between each city. There will never be a winner.

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple  18 днів тому

      We cannot truthfully give you an answer on this... We met in the US, got married in the US, lived in the US for our first 6 years of marriage... In fact, we've known each other for over 10 years now... So... Good luck? --- In general, if you're an English speaker, I'd go to language meet ups in both cities and see if there there is anyone who matches your vibe. Rather than dating apps... Look for woman who already know some English and want to improve it. If they are working on improving their English, they are likely to work on themselves too to be a better person. We highly value personal growth because that feeds into other areas and aspects of life. But, if you're looking for just a good time, something short term, we're not the best source of information on that.

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple  17 днів тому

      If you're just visiting, having no Spanish will be fine. Especially if you're in places like Bogota, Medellin, or Cartagena. But, knowing any Spanish is going to be helpful as most people do only speak Spanish. But you will find spots were many people speak English too, especially popular areas and tourist areas.
      Shorts? - This really depends... It's not rude as much as it's not common for a local to not wear shorts at all. So, it's kind of something they make fun of foreigners for... I personally don't concern myself that much with what others think of me, I find it a waste of time. If I'm hot, and it feels better to wear shorts, I'm going to wear shorts. I've even worn shorts in Bogota where it is not normal to do so at all. Sure I get some looks, but compared to the population, I look super-gringo, and therefore I just add to the stereotype. --- Bogota is more comfortable to wear jeans/pants because it's a cooler city (50-70 degree F). Medellin is fine to wear jeans/pants, it could get hot mid-day. But, if you went to the coast, I don't know how you could wear jeans... But you see people wearing jeans.

There are people in different camps, those who love Medellin and there are those who love Bogota. Find where people are thriving in Bogota and you will have a very abundant experience.

    • @lifetheorycouple

      We understand this sentiment. - Gentrification is mostly caused by local economic factors that allow owners of businesses and real-estate to raise prices on nearly everything and typically in trendy areas... Usually those with greater material and monetary resources contribute to the demand-pull factors, because they can afford higher prices (foreigners in this case of Medellin)... What's equally causing price-inflation is the lack of laws to prevent owners from charging higher prices, therefore putting the local-residents at a disadvantage. This isn't just observable in Medellin or Bogota... But you can see this happening all over the world. I grew up in Dallas, Texas and I've seen Californians migrate to the Dallas over the past 20 years... Because Californians make more money on average and own houses usually 3 to 4 times more expensive than what you can find in Texas, it makes it an unfair advantage for Californian migrants to move and buy a house and even pricing out Texans themselves... --- It's an unfortunate consequence of economic development... And I don't think there is any straightforward answer to preventing it from happening. Money is the great equalizer... But if you don't have the money, it's just unfair.

      We give our honest opinion about Medellin. And we will say it again and again, if you say a lie big enough, loud enough, and long enough, people will begin to believe it. That lie is that “Medellin is the best city in Colombia”. It’s just not true. That’s like saying New York a city, or LA, or any other give city, is the best city in the United States. There are many other cities we like above Medellin, but we do like Medellin. Regarding weather in Bogota, it rarely drops below 10 degrees Celsius and that happens at night. Mid day is almost always 15-20 degrees Celsius. Many parts of the States and countries that are above or below the tropical latitudes experience 0 or below degrees Celsius ALL DAY during winter months. And that is cold. So yeah, Bogota is cool autumn weather, not cold winter weather.

    😎The absolute winner is Medellin, and why do I say that? because Medellin is so special and unique that it can afford to compete head-to-head with a city that is 3 times larger and after that it is the Capital, 🤷‍♀️no other city in the country can say that, if Medellin had the same population. of Bogota would erase Bogota from the map, if it already does so, Medellin with more population would not have competition, in addition Medellin currently far surpasses Bogota in employment, security and quality of life, Bogota after the 2020 pandemic is in decline in security and employment, on the other hand, Medellin, on the contrary, is constantly improving, 2023 was the least violent year in Medellin in 40 years, also in terms of events they are very wrong, Medellin currently has more events than Bogota, Medellin is the Latin capital of the urban and electronic music industry, it is also the industrial capital of the country and is the mecca of Latin American fashion, even its Christmas lighting is done in collaboration with Disney and is among the best in the world, even in March 2024 TOMORROWLAND will be held In Medellin, in July "colombiamoda" is celebrated, which is the largest fashion fair in Latin America and is held every year in Medellin, and in August, "the flower fair" is celebrated, which is the largest traditional fair in the country. In Bogota they don't even have a traditional fair. Obviously both cities have their pros and cons but Medellin by far has more pros than any other city in the country, there is a reason why it is the best city in Colombia.

      The absolute winner is neither. Preferences matter above all. For Widny, naturally she chooses Bogota over Medellin because she's a Rola. For Jonny, after spending over 2 years in the country and visiting multiple places, Medellin is great but he too prefers Bogota for a lot reasons and preferences.

      Bogota’s weather is perfect. Always fresh, if sunny, take off your jacket/sweater, if a little colder, put them back on. It is that simple. No A/C needed. Medellin is a little sticky to me.
      Bogotá has much better cultural offer, more events.
      Bogota offers better gastronomy.
      Bogota has much more elegant neighborhoods.
      Bogota has a better and wider view, because it is flat, which makes it look more organized, but still surrounded by spectacular mountains. Medellin is too steep, what it makes it look conglomerated, unorganized, and polluted.
      Bogotá has better universities, museums, parks, etc.
      Bogotá is safer for foreigners, not in Medellin.
      And the list goes on and on.
      The Coffee Axis is paradise on Earth to retire. But we are talking about cities. So, I will always choose Bogota. It never runs out of activities to do.
      I would visit Medellin for Christmas and La Feria de las Flores; but not to live permanently. But, I do have to say that I do admire the paisas because of their tenacity, openness, and kindness. Nevertheless, I also hate their ridiculous regionalism. They live bitter comparing Medellin to Bogota, not accepting that it will hardly reach that level. Bogota is a metropolis. Bogotan people don’t care to fight about it, because we know what we have and facts don’t lie.
      We, the rest of Colombians, celebrate and embrace the differences among regions and cities. all the other regions are happy about their own culture without making bitter comparison to Bogota. Only the poor paisas.
