I think it is good that you showed these figures for this video. I always enjoy seeing new videos of things I am into. I still look for new ToTs Wolfman mask and NECA Universal Monsters, and lots of other things.
I love your discussions on anything related to the Universal Monsters. It sucks you’ve had problems with your preorders from this store, but at least you’re able to get them after all this time. These figures look amazing and I hope you keep up the great work you do on this channel Raymond, have a great weekend!
Don’t feel like just because it’s late you shouldn’t review the figures, because to me you’re the monster toy show of record - it’s not really reviewed til it’s reviewed on basement of horror ! In fact, I don’t think I’m the only one who would love seeing you RE-review the AHI and mego monsters etc, youve upped the show quality a lot I’d love to see them again
Thank you! I think there is a different culture surrounding new toy reviews versus the kind of historical reviews I have on my channel. People who watch new toy reviews really want to see the toy as soon as it is available, if not before. They also want to see it out of the package. I'm not doing the latter, so that's one strike. I need to do the former, or I'll have two strikes against me. But I don't have the money or the industry access to get these toys as soon as they are available, so I just do the best I can. When I can get a new toy in a timely fashion, I'll have it on the show.
Great video Ray! Can't believe they made these, just saw your video and bought Gillman and Nosferatu, for an old monster kid like me it's nice to see the old monster buddies are still relevant enough to make toys about them, I.saw Nosferatu when it was "only"60years old!, love all your videos!
It was a treat to see a new Basement of Horror episode waiting for my Saturday Morning Monster “Obsession”. I can completely understand your issues w pre-orders....it’s even more heartbreaking when the box shows up mangled bc the box is as important as the toy itself. And then on the Retail side of things...any shipments to Target or Whale Mart are scooped up by resellers for eBay profiteering. Admittedly, I’m so focused on vtg Monster Toys that I don’t scour and work that Avenue too often. It was only by complete luck that I found The Karloff Mummy at T, and Wolf Man at WM the very same day! I was so happy to see The one and only Mummy on the shelf had a perfect box....I was obsessed with the color and finished pkg design that I knew at that point I was going to chase down all future releases (Lugosi Dracula) with more vigor when released. The only issue is how to find the space to display these (Sadly). Neca and Sideshow “Get It”
Another great episode Raymond, and I appreciate another monster collector venting about BBTS. I still use them for when I have no other choice but you’re right other places absolutely get the toys before them.
Thanks for the great review Raymond. I will be getting both color and B&W versions as I like the different box art. Entertainment Earth has also been very slow with pre-orders. I'm still waiting for the Mummy, yet I just found it at Walmart this morning. Thanks again, and just as a side note, nobody has better videos than you. I always look forward to them and appreciate the time you put into presenting them.
Agree with all your comments regarding BBTS. I've cancelled orders because I've found the items elsewhere, and 4 months later- the items are STILL listed as "Pre-Order" at BBTS! My local toy store has the NECA B&W Wolf Man on the shelves, and it's nothing even listed at BBTS. Another good reason to check out your local shops, versus Online! Will miss "Basement of Horror" over the summer!
Great video as always and I'm sorry to hear about your problems with the preorders. I have been having luck finding them at my local Walmart and Target and they have had a great inventory of Neca figures.
Love your take on these. I finally got all three recently. My bbts order of the Wolfman just showed up. Luckily found The Mummy and Frankenstein in the wild.
I couldn't agree more when it comes to the Mummy. Lon Chaney Jr's version is my all time favorite. I like the original Mummy film, but it's not the one I go to when I watch Universal monsters films, it's always The Mummy's Tomb.
The Karloff Mummy is a different kind of monster than Kharis. Imhotep is more like Dracula. Kharis is almost a proto-Jason or Michael Myers. One is elegant, brooding, mystical. The other is hulking and relentless.
I just got my Wolfman figures from Big Bad Toy Store today. Not sure what's going on. Some stuff ships immediately. Great review! These figures and the boxes are just gorgeous.
Doctor Septimus Pretorius is a character that desperately needs a figure and is one I lamented never seeing in Sideshow 12" -- I would love to see NECA tackle him in their Ultimate line. If they do Dr. Frankenstein Colin Clive, they COULD in theory even include an extra swap-out head of the good Mad Doctor. Here's hoping. On a separate note, I discovered your channel a few months ago and have been consistently enjoying it since - really wonderful videos that are incredibly enjoyable and relaxing. Kudos, sir!
Thank you very much for watching my channel! I don't know about the head swap idea. Perhaps NECA could do a Bride boxed set that includes Henry and Pretorious. NECA does do multi-figure sets.
@@RaymondCastile My sincere pleasure. And I was thinking if they offered a lab coat version of Henry, it might not be too much to ask in the way of a bonus head, but I do much prefer the idea of a proper, full-figure in such a multi-figure set. I agree on the pre orders from BBTS, i have like 20 items still in pre order from months ago and the ship dates keep getting pushed back another month. They are the best at shipping hands down, and i love the Pile of Loot system when you can ship em all at once for 4 bucks. So i just grin and bare the wait, if i see the toys elsewhere ill get em and then cancel my pre order. I think of BBTS as a last ditch type of thing to lock in an item. Other stores are just as bad as BBTS like Dorkside and Entertainment Earth (not as bad) but close. Stores like Forbidden Planet and Big Bang seem to get stuff a month or so earlier like Target and Walmart. Target and Walmart suck for pre orders online, they are always out of stock until the day after the actual release. Scalpers flock to those stores cause of no limits on buying stuff most of the time.
As I understand it, BBTS gets its product directly from overseas manufacturers via a budget shipping company. The same manufacturer successfully sends the product out to other retail affiliates through other means.
Most of the stuff I would want is not on the scalpers' radar. I don't think many people are scalping these NECA monsters. Twenty items on pre-order? I doubt there are 20 new items this year that I really want to buy.
I'd rather have a Chaney Hunchback to go with the other Universal characters. As much as I love Laughton's version, I don't feel the need to own toys of him.
I really love what Neca is doing with this line I hope they at least make the essentials with some side characters. BBTS use to be really good and I’ve stopped using them because of the delay in shipping. They really have lost there way I now order from Amok Time Toys. They are amazing and fast. I got all these new releases really quickly. Only thing is you have to pay up front but they do box up the items very nicely and you get them quickly. If Neca can keep this line alive and out eat what Diamond was doing I’ll be happy. I still think what Sideshow did was fantastic for it’s time and I cherish them still to this day

Do you meant they have nothing to do with the Mummy because there was never a cross-over? Nah, I think Mummy, Invisible Man, and Bride all go together with Frank and Dracula, as they are all 1930s monsters. Wolf Man is 1940s, so he's a little different. Creature is 1950s, so he's even less connected. Phantom and Hunchback are 1920s. Why isn't The Man Who Laughs ever included? He should be allowed to join the party.

BBTS isn't exclusive when it comes to delayed preorders. I preorder from Entertainment Earth and am having the same problem. I have the entire NECA Universal Monsters collection but no thanks to Entertainment Earth. It is routine for me to preorder and then later find the figures in stores. I then have to cancel these preorders. I continue to do this, however, because I guess it's peace of mind to know I at least have one reserved if by chance I don't find it in stores. It appears to be a problem with online stores in general.
I have noticed this is spreading throughout the online retail toy world. I'm buying fewer and fewer new toys. You might have noticed I have not posted many new toy videos in the past year. The modern retail toy world has become very frustrating.

I'm not much of an industry insider. But I'm very much a cartoon. Horror host is an interesting angle. Like a horror host with no movies. Most people watch horror hosts for the hosts, anyway. So not having a film is no great loss.
@@RaymondCastile you speak the truth. That being said, Mego’s 3rd Creature from the black lagoon, the black and white one, has me wanting all the classic Universal characters in silver screen / b n w. So they got me.
Neca toys are very well done but I still prefer Side Show 8-inch figures and the new Mego Monster toys over Neca. For me they are overpriced, it is hard to put down $30 plus dollars these days. That being said if they make a Creature, I will buy it.
Nonsense- The proportions and sculpture are far better, more evocative, and accurate to the character on the Sideshow Wolfman 8” than the Neca Not only that, the khaki pants and a green shirt just bug me. The Wolfman does not have khaki pants in that movie.
I just looked at him again. Overall, I think Sideshow is superior to NECA. Their 12" Wolf Man is a disaster. He's my least favorite of their 12" classic monsters. The premium format statue could have been better. He looks kind of odd. A lot of the premium figures look kind of odd. The 8-inch Wolf Man looks great...but...his colors are so dark and muted that he might as well be a "silver screen" edition. I appreciate that the Sideshow figures manage to be both realistic and toylike. Most retail-level toy lines that try for authenticity end up looking more like taxidermy or waxworks. I think NECA has done a good job of avoiding the taxidermy look, while still achieving detailed, realistic sculpts and paint work. The Sideshow 8-inch Wolf Man has softer details and is more toylike than the NECA figure, which is not necessarily a bad thing. I prefer the color on the NECA figure, though neither version is painted the way I would like. NECA is too light and Sideshow is too dark.

Neca toys are very well done but I still prefer Side Show 8-inch figures and the new Mego Monster toys over Neca. For me they are overpriced, it is hard to put down $30 plus dollars these days. That being said if they make a Creature, I will buy it.
I'm still a Sideshow fan. I'm becoming less and less enthused about the Mego monsters.
I've got my problems with bbts too. Got preorders for valaverse stuff. Since day 1. More than two years 👎
You've had items on pre-order for two years? Have they shipped from any other retailer?
It's not about you it's aimed at the Fans that want Bela the werewolf or Bella as Igor.
Nonsense- The proportions and sculpture are far better, more evocative, and accurate to the character on the Sideshow Wolfman 8” than the Neca
Not only that, the khaki pants and a green shirt just bug me.
Hi how about monster niks and the knock off space men monsters
I don't have those. I had carded knockoff Outer Space Men in the 90s, but not now.
I never Pre order anymore.
That's not fair to the rest of us fans.
