In today's video we take a tour of the Toy and Train Fair which was held on Sunday 7th November 2022 at Westpoint, near Exeter.

First up , thanks a bunch for taking us along .So much to see and ponder . 26:1 " Howzat " 😆 . Yet i wonder if these shows are becoming less and less . Are there any person there under the age of say forty ??? I ask as an old Young man . 😀 .Some time i wonder if these sellers make much of a profit . Virtual shopping seems to be the norm ( my opinion/ bias ) .I have had and have pined after some of these ' toys ' . Some nice ' coffee table books ' . And memories . Ok nuff said . Jules 👍🖖. Thanks Sylvan, it was a decent enough show but I didn't buy much, just a few Matchbox cars. I was happy though. Glad you enjoyed this one.👍
Regarding age - here's what I've seen:
Slot car shows - I"m seeing some young folks...but mostly older collectors (age 30 and plus)
Train shows - I'm seeing MORE young folks (and families)..but still quite a few older collectors (age 30 and +) Primarily dominated by OLDER collectors.
Definitely more older collectors at Westpoint 👍
@@JulesBurt Yeah...watching the crowd from your vid, I could see that. Promoters need to do things to get more youth involved. For instance - let kids under 16 in for FREE.

Correct me if I am wrong...but isn't the UK in a bit of a nasty recession with skyrocketing heating bills? Having said that, would the two of you say the show was well-attended or poorly attended? Usually around this time of year, train shows (In America_ are usually "hopping"....
I just went to a vintage slot car show and it was the MOST well-attended I've EVER seen it. In fact, I had a hard time getting to tables....
By the way, being born in '64, I love seeing all the old Corgi's and Matchboxes...as that is what I was raised on and STILL love to this day...so thanks for the vid. Love trains too....
Thanks my friend, yes, there is indeed a recession in the UK now so I'm not sure how well the dealers did but I hope it was worth they're while and that the fairs continue 👍
@@JulesBurt Ultimately, that IS the bottom line - hopefully the fairs (we call them shows) continue. I think they will...but they make be tough for dealers for the next year or so. I and my wife have had a financially tremendous past two years since COVID has pretty well ended - but I"m thinking some lean times are coming for the next 1.5 years. I hope I am wrong....
It's true, lean times are coming, if not already here.

Collectors - stay away from those "Pops" - they are "The Beanie Babies" of the 2010's......tomorrow's garage sale fodder. Basically, they have more value as "good kindling" to keep warm....
Certainly not my cup of tea but some people seem to like them.
@@JulesBurt The are free to like them...but they should NOT count on them to fund their retirement. In fact, as a dealer in collectibles (which I am), I warn EVERY collector to simply collect what they like...but don't expect to make a profit when they resell what I sold them. Never rely on collectibles to go up in value....collect them because you like them and you will NEVER be disappointed.
I however, am willing to buy back, at any time, most of what I sell to my clients - AT the original price I sold it to them as long as they have their receipt and the item IS in the SAME EXACT shape and condition I initially sold it to them in. Most dealers never make that offer.....
