I'm so glad there is a country that is so enthusiastic in caring for our bees which are in so much trouble world wide. Besides that, thank you for making me aware of how beautiful Slovenia is. Your interaction with the locals really gives your videos character. Your sister shows how hard it is to be a UA-camr!
Actually, Slovenia proposed a Bee day to United Nations and from then on May 20th is World Bee Day. On May 20th 1734 one of the most famous Slovenians was born, Anton Jansa, royal beekeper on Austro-Hungarian court and a teacher of beekeeping on a Beekeeper school founded by Maria Theresa in Vienna.
YAY! Drew, Ljubljana is my fav city in the world! Slovenia is sooo beautiful, each time I visit, there are more tourists, so SHHH...we don't want this lovely place to be over-run by tourists. I've been there 3 times. And, the honey is amazing...Slovenia is farm country. The food is fresh and so tasty. The people are amazing and friendly. So many restaurants! Spent 5 mo there in '18, I have relatives there...me lucky. Your vids on Prague have got me wanting to go there too.
I was in Slovenia in summer and I already know the restaurants in Europe are not as good, especially in France, in Croatia in Slovenia it was THE WORST! Yet I love these two countries and I'm learning Slovenian for more than half a year 🇭🇷🇸🇮🇭🇷🇸🇮
Thank you Drew for uploading a video about my precious country sLOVEnia. I'm really looking forward to seeing you here again and to meet you. I hope you will tell us, when you come here again. Best regards from Slovenia. ❤
Razer the Brazer we don’t consider ourselves a balkan country, we have a lot of germanic influences and we don’t really have much in common with the balkans. We’re only balkan because of geography but everything else, Slovenia isn’t balkan at all.
yes most of us are hobby beekeepers, under 30 bee hives. There is only a small number of professional beekeppers that have over 150 bee hives. Can i ask you what part of UK you are and what bee breed you are working with? The buckfast bee?
@@pk2068 yes I work with the Buckfast Bee in farmland areas because its calm and productive but I also have hives in the lake district area which is up high and is cold wet and rainy a lot .I keep the British Black Bee for that area because its away from humans being quite aggressive and is well adapted for harsh winters. I think every country needs to be a bit more like Slovenia now though where environmental issues become more of a problem.
@@PNE2611 Did you know that our indigenous Carniola was also included rasing the Buckfest bee? Since the Carniolan Bee is indigenous here, we are not allowed to have any other races in our hives and so brother Adam knew where to find a pure Carniolan race to do his breeding experiments. I see 3 main problems regarding bees. 1. The chemic polution (pesticides, insekticides). For this reason the urban beekeeping (on the roof) in the cities is rising now, because bees are healthier in parks, rather on fields. 2. We dont care enough about bee food source. We dont plant enough honey plants and we cut the meadows before they can bloom alreday in May, instead of late July. If you have a habitat with lots of bumblebees and dragonflies, you know you have a good habitat for honeybees as well. 3. since there are a lot of beekeepers concentrated on one small place, we should all treat varroa mites simmulatenously and sistematically. If 3 of 4 treat varoa mites in July, but one in September after he comes home from Vacation, you know where the first three stand. Good luck with your bees!
@@pk2068 that's amazing I never knew that .I learnt beekeeping of my mother and she would research a lot into brother Adam she even went to Buckfast abbey to learn more about them but she missed that information lol I'll tell her that though. But I worry the UK are in trouble coming out of Europe we might start using American pesticides .US beekeepers lose half their colony's every year and I worry what the future will hold for us. I would prefer to keep bees in Slovenia than the UK let's put it that way :).
what was not mentioned is that Slovenia is the homeland of the bee breed "Apis mellifera carnica", more known an simply the Carnica or Carniolan bee. This breed was registered in year 1879 and it was masively exported all over the world, because it is known for its calmness and the fact that it does not need very much food for itself. The bad side is that it quickly swarms. One bad thing although I must say about Slovenia that you can spot from month May on. The premature mowing of flowering meadons. As a result, the bees (honebybee, wild bee, bumble bee) can not find any major food sources after chestnut tree flowered.
So happy to see you in my country :). Slovenia. And so happy that you and your sister like Slovenia. Thank you for a beautiful video and a great presentation of my country. Love to watch all your videos. You always find unique stories to tell. :)
