YES. I COMPLETELY AGREE. I HAD A WONDERFUL CAT THAT I HEARTBREAKINGLY HAD TO GIVE UP I THINK ABOUT HIN EVERY DAY. HE WAS SO AWESOME HE WAS MY THERAPY. NO MATTER HOW BAD THINGS GOT JUST HIS WONDERFUL LOVING DEMEANOR MADE IT BETTER. SINCE I LOST HIM IM A BATTERED HOMELESS DRUG ADDICT
This is a fabulous idea: everybody wins. Inmates get to use their 'time in' for a really meaningful purpose. The animals benefit. And so much emotional healing can happen. Bravo.
Cynthia Hawkins I, too, think this is a wonderful idea. This way the inmates learn how to take responsibility for other beings. This would even be a good way of treating kids with behavioural disorders.
For all the people that made negative comments, these are not the hard ass criminals. these convicts have selected because they are the ones that have done their time clean. the caring and training of these dogs is a privilege earned through good behavior. these inmates will be teach these dogs to be service animals for people needing assistance in the outside world. With the mentorship of actual trainers the inmates with work with their perspective dogs in social skills, obedience and following basic commands. There's a program on the learning channel or one similar that shows inmates and these dogs working together. and at the end of each training both the dogs and the inmates have a graduation ceremony. Thus program dies work.
thank you for clearing that up. i thought it was a good idea but i was worried bc some of the inmates could have been in there for animal abuse or animal mutilation. I'm glad that they didn't give the pooches to hard criminals.
They go from these tough looking guys to these ten year old boys in seconds. I think it's sweet they have have these huge grins on their faces. That one guy at the start of the video was holding on to that dog like he was a drowning man.
Many of these prisoners were physically/sexually/verbally abused as children by either their parents or in foster homes. They were never loved. For many this is the first time they will feel unconditional love & look what it can do. Sad.
Aww, now that you said that i realize i havent seen any videos yet where they gave dogs to female inmates or had female inmates working with animals. Ive only seen males. Maybe theyre trying to prove a point, because society judges males more harshly in general. Especially where it comes to emotions, sensitivity, empathy and gentleness. Society is incredibly stupid, but that may be why theyre focusing on males being paired with animals to care for. But its dumb to not be including female inmates. I mean part of the point is to be giving the animals homes, there is a seriously high percentage of euthanizing, and this takes away alot of that, which im very glad about, and the animals get homes and companions, or they get adopted out from the prison center, and the females clearly need the opportunity for companionship just as much. I wonder if they allow any of them to take the animals home with them upon their release. Or if they can adopt from the centers on their facility. I hope so, for all of the inmates who are safe for animals to be around.
IMr LAPS they have this program for female inmates in some places too, but I think the one I saw was for women who had no chance at parole. You also have to think how society views women - loving, nurturing, kind, etc - most people look at a women in jail and automatically assume she has none of these "normal" feminine attributes. It's like that comparison of a women or man that kills their family members. If it's a guy, people shrug and attribute it to all sorts of typical stuff that a "violent man" experienced in life (upbringing, teasing, neighborhood, etc). But if it's a woman, "OMG she is evil, crazy, should be locked away from society," but no look into whether or not mom hugged her enough.....so, possibly they aren't putting the programs into women's prisons because of preconceived ideas of women prisoners.
Animals are healers, they dont Judge, they love unconditionaly, they are the great communicators, if this program can change the attitude and lifes of some prisoners, then thats great. As an animal lover, Ive always known how important they are, how impossible it would be for people like me to ever live without them in our lives.
Its design to teach inmates that everything has to be negative and violent in Prison and it shows them they have love to give and can receive love as well and have normal relationships with others.
+Maarja Vallimaa nah don't agree with you 95 per cent of people deserve it jihadis, child raping killer's and when you rape more than one person you don't deserve life as we live it that is the 5 per cent of people that doesn't deserve air
+Gage Castro reformd jihadis hahaha hahaha hahaha hahaha reformed rapists hahaha hahaha are they former jihadi rapists by any chance go on outa that bullshit try keeping that stuff for your safe spaces
This program should be in every prison. It not only helps dogs get out of shelters but helps the inmates learn responsibility, love for another being, patience, etc. It's the greatest rehabilitation.
I think this would be wonderful! This way maybe there will be less dogs and other kinds of pets euthanised if they are used in rehabilitation programs and maybe the prisoners could even adopt them when they get out! How nice. So wholesome.
I saw so many men smiling and hugging each dog, the dogs don’t know where they are, but they know affection, respect and love. I know they will do a fantastic job !
I like this program. I just didn't like the dogs being lifted off their feet by their necks at the ends of the video. 0:48 The first thing the prisoners should be taught is NOT TO CHOKE THE DOGS.
I think this is a terrific idea. I used to have harsh thoughts about guys in prison but, you know what, if they're going to be released into society then perhaps this could help make them better at doing that!
I always believe dogs can crack even the toughest of individuals, dogs don’t care where you come from, they don’t judge you. They’ll love anyone who’ll take care of them
I love this kind of programs! It helps the inmates, the dogs, and if they are being train it to be a service dog, then also another person is gonna get something out of this.....it's a win/win❤❤❤💋
Elizabeth Czepiel I agree, they need to go over that with the prisoners, they are holding the leash too short and pulling them off the ground as they walk it looks like.
The gov't should be ALL over this. So many inmates probably have never felt love in their lives, and meanwhile there are tons of dogs being put down every day...
Wish we had this in Britain, but great for the dogs and fantastic for the inmates, to find comfort and unconditional love while they are being trained, lol both animal and humans, just look at the inmates and the fur babies
They should do this more but with shelter dogs who don’t have homes or not even dogs it could be any kind of animal that way both could benefit and take care of each other 😊
I know some people can't be reached. But this program is probably the most effective way to reach those for whom there is still hope. Should be implemented MUCH more.
Why do guys walk dogs with such a short leash? If the dog is walking in a different direction just tug em back. No need to drag them and pull them up off the floor
Aww. This is what I like to see. Prison should be about rehabilitation, as not all prisoners are in for violent crimes. I believe some people simply need to be shown kindness to change
This is really great because not all prisoners are serial killers or rapists,u get The point.and dogs are a great healing process and van really change a persons view of their prison life.so bravo!
I'd like to know if this program is still in effect or has it been scraped? This is a really good idea. If it is successful in Mich. then hopefully other prisons soon adopt this program
The only problem with this approach is the separation when the inmates are released, and if one of them gets to take the dog, the other one loses out. And if they keep the dog in the facility, then both inmates lose their furry friend, and the dog loses one or both of them in any case.
I'm pretty positive these dogs are being trained to helped handicapped people. The inmates know from the start that they aren't going to get to keep the dog. It's just a temporary arrangement.
THIS is what prisoners need. This is the best form of rehabilitation. Animals can reach us when no human can.
YES! they love unconditionally and I bet next to none of these guys have ever really had that.
beauty LOVE THIS SPEECH
InnannasRainbow meh
Sarah Franks Are you okay Sarah, hope you are doing better.
The guys seem to really enjoy interacting with the dogs. Good program for all involved, the men and the dogs.
There are many programs involving cats too, and they are just as effective and successful. We should expand all programs like this.
Yep. A lot of these convicts probably grew up with dogs themselves so they enjoyed them.
Cynthia Hawkins How do the animals benefit?
And, disabled people are paired with the dogs afterward and they help them too! :)
Winnie Winkles They are cared for by the inmates.
Yep that's for sure ... They look so happy... I'm also happy for the dogs too :)
For all the people that made negative comments, these are not the hard ass criminals. these convicts have selected because they are the ones that have done their time clean. the caring and training of these dogs is a privilege earned through good behavior. these inmates will be teach these dogs to be service animals for people needing assistance in the outside world. Darren Headrick right. There are white collar criminals who aren't violent murderers
That's good to hear!
thank you for clearing that up. i thought it was a good idea but i was worried bc some of the inmates could have been in there for animal abuse or animal mutilation. I'm glad that they didn't give the pooches to hard criminals.
Darren Headrick The facility staff usually screens the prisoners to make sure that no one with a history of violence get in.
They go from these tough looking guys to these ten year old boys in seconds. I think it's sweet they have have these huge grins on their faces. That one guy at the start of the video was holding on to that dog like he was a drowning man.

You are so right!!!
The public has NO idea that these dogs do as much for the inmates as the inmates do for them.
Diana A. Yeah they chock them, the dog isn't walking he's fucking flying
Ali The Artist ?
I wish Newport,Arkansas prison, the female side had a program like this.
having done time myself,I know it would have made my time easier!!
What did you do time for?
Aww, now that you said that i realize i havent seen any videos yet where they gave dogs to female inmates or had female inmates working with animals. Ive only seen males. What would make your time easiest is not doing time at all.
7Earthsky The point should be rehabilitation if the convict is going to be released.
This is one of those rare times the government got it right, it's a win-win for all involved.
We need reformist government.
Repeat after me...rehabilitation. Not keeping grown men in cages.
Absolutely 💯 💯 💯
What a beautiful, phenomenal idea. SO great for rehabilitation and to open their hearts.
This is a great program for both....the dog and the prisoner!
Cats also do that in jail and is wildly successful too.
Animals are healers, they dont Judge, they love unconditionaly, they are the great communicators, if this program can change the attitude and lifes of some prisoners, then thats great. As an animal lover, Ive always known how important they are, how impossible it would be for people like me to ever live without them in our lives.
Love heals
The three guys at the start had the biggest joy on their faces. It made me smile big with them 😊
Animals understand more than anyone could ever. I love all animals. They are our brothers and sisters. 💜
Learning compassion & putting others before yourself is the best way to overcome personal demons!!!
Its design to teach inmates that everything has to be negative and violent in Prison and it shows them they have love to give and can receive love as well and have normal relationships with others.
I think you meant to say "that NOT everything"...
95 per cent of people deserve a second chance in life
+Maarja Vallimaa nah don't agree with you 95 per cent of people deserve it jihadis, child raping killer's and when you rape more than one person you don't deserve life as we live it that is the 5 per cent of people that doesn't deserve air

Cats make good in-jail friends too.
Want to see a big man turn into a big kid? Get him a dog.
I saw so many men smiling and hugging each dog, the dogs don’t know where they are, but they know affection, respect and love. I know they will do a fantastic job !
they really need harnesses. the dogs are being pulled up by their neck
I like this program. I just didn't like the dogs being lifted off their feet by their necks at the ends of the video. 0:48
The first thing the prisoners should be taught is NOT TO CHOKE THE DOGS.
Sandra Noneofyourbusiness yes I agree the guys at the end were choking the dogs and that kinda worried me about the dogs
You can see the love and simple adoration in their eyes.
This is wonderful ❤❤❤ compassion for human beings and animals
I think this is a terrific idea.
I used to have harsh thoughts about guys in prison but, you know what, if they're going to be released into society then perhaps this could help make them better at doing that!
Exactly! Rehab is better than nothing
All they need is love and these dogs are going to give them lots of that!
I love how that dog at the end was an absolute Heaven getting all those bellyrubs
I always believe dogs can crack even the toughest of individuals, dogs don’t care where you come from, they don’t judge you. They’ll love anyone who’ll take care of them
This is a great idea ! Unconditional love and the calming effect, it makes sense to me !
Even tough guys love dogs!
Nothing like a dog. They say if you want a friend and loyalty, get a dog. Unconditional dog love.
Do you see the smiles on the inmates facesand the dogs are happy rehabilitation for both of them what a great idea
The looks on some of their faces gives me hope and good feelings about this program.
Aww, I love this
I think this is a win win situation......keep up good work
I love this kind of programs! It helps the inmates, the dogs, and if they are being train it to be a service dog, then also another person is gonna get something out of this.....it's a win/win❤❤❤💋
Wonderful program for both!!
Everyone gets hugs. Good program.
What's with the pulling the collar and choking the dog?
Elizabeth Czepiel I agree, they need to go over that with the prisoners, they are holding the leash too short and pulling them off the ground as they walk it looks like.
Puppies pull, they will learn to heal soon enough. You've obviously never had a young energetic puppy they pull at any length of lead.
The problem is neither the dog or the prisoner. They should have a harness instead
The collar itself is too tight...
Elizabeth Czepiel you've never had a dog that chokes itself when they were new to you and excited. Give it time.
awesome program ...... both the animals and the guys in cages both learn from it
The gov't should be ALL over this. So many inmates probably have never felt love in their lives, and meanwhile there are tons of dogs being put down every day...
i got to meet all these guys in highschool on a field trip to the prison, all
good guys with good hearts, just did a bad thing
Wish we had this in Britain, but great for the dogs and fantastic for the inmates, to find comfort and unconditional love while they are being trained, lol both animal and humans, just look at the inmates and the fur babies
Those are big puppers
Wow, this seems like EXACTLY the kind of rehab for prisoners. Incredible!
These programs are such a great idea!
I love watching these big tough guys turn into huge softies when a puppy enters the room
Suddenly those winners became good fellows. Thanks to the wonderful project.
00:22 the look is so nice on their faces!!! I hope all ends well.... What happened was unfortunate... God bless
Need more of those programs
SO GREAT!!!!! I actually searched this idea myself to find this
They should do this more but with shelter dogs who don’t have homes or not even dogs it could be any kind of animal that way both could benefit and take care of each other 😊
I know some people can't be reached. But this program is probably the most effective way to reach those for whom there is still hope. Should be implemented MUCH more.
Why do guys walk dogs with such a short leash? If the dog is walking in a different direction just tug em back. No need to drag them and pull them up off the floor
Maddy Its culture
Yeah, that was weird.
Do this in Pa....awesome seein how the dogs are treated 💘
I think every prison around the world should have this program :)
Aww. This is what I like to see. Prison should be about rehabilitation, as not all prisoners are in for violent crimes. I believe some people simply need to be shown kindness to change
such a beautiful sight to see
Uh, I don't know. What if one of them is easily set off cuz the dog peed or Something? Hope they're very closely monitored.
Lol I got a dog ad before this 😂 Not only that but I'm the 1000nd like of this video, AWESOME!!!!
i think this is the greatest idea plus the dogs help the inmates stress level
Anyone who loves animals and treats them well can not be all bad.
Prison should be about rehabilitation, healing, integration, trauma work, learning social interaction and forming bonds etc.
Not punishment.
This is really great because not all prisoners are serial killers or rapists,u get The point.and dogs are a great healing process and van really change a persons view of their prison life.so bravo!
Were those puppies abandoned or given in adoption before? Were they rescued from streets?
emotional healing
Oh so sweet
God loves people through animals too
This is one of those great ideas that make you turn around and say, "Gee, why didn't somebody think of that before?"
What a beautiful idea! 🤗
The perfect type of rehabilitation
Lordie I could do with one of them beauties, yo fellas are sooo Blessed
someone should teach them not to hold the leash so aggressively
I'd like to know if this program is still in effect or has it been scraped? This is a really good idea. If it is successful in Mich. then hopefully other prisons soon adopt this program
How sweet 🙏😍💗
Keep up with the good work👏👏👏👏🏴
Hope this is still going on. It's a plus+plus
Someone doesn't know what puppies are
Good program for these men it does really help them they need these programs in all the prisons
Thanks
THIS is soooo amazing!!! 😘🦮🐾🐾
Good dogs make people better.
Omg what a perfect idea. What happens if guy who's looking after the dog does he get to take him home as well
To me, I don't care how tough a person clames to be, or whatever. An animal WILL change your life!!!
Another example why labradors are the best!
Wow a mans best friend happy with you even in jail ...
Instead of putting the animals to sleep they should bring them all there even the bad dogs.
j spec
Genius 💡!
Yep, even with rabies :)
Awwww cute little Puppers!!!!
The only problem with this approach is the separation when the inmates are released, and if one of them gets to take the dog, the other one loses out. And if they keep the dog in the facility, then both inmates lose their furry friend, and the dog loses one or both of them in any case.
I'm sure they keep this in mind when they choose which inmates will be in the program.
I'm pretty positive these dogs are being trained to helped handicapped people. The inmates know from the start that they aren't going to get to keep the dog. It's just a temporary arrangement.
Leia Davis yes
it is impossible to remain a hardened man when puppies are introduced to the fray.......
people needs affections , we just don't know on how to give love without dragging sex into it ,, that's our problems ,,
These are people, we tend to forget that
Dogs are the best!
God bless the ones with labs. I have one sleeping on me now and that’s the first time he’s been quiet in the last 12 hours 😂
What kind of crime do I have to commit to ve apart of this program?
Hmm inmates.. Seems like a good idea but... How long before dog fights are held and dogs are attacking other inmates at will?
How dogs love people
