Sig Sauer Romeo 5 Real vs Fake

- This is the 3rd one I bought. The first 2 were fakes - one from eBay and the other from Amazon. Unfortunately I returned them before buying this one from an authorized dealer.
I watched another video showing the difference between real vs. fake but the fakes have gotten so good, the differences shown are no longer different.
Using this video (shot in 4k so you can see clearly) you can compare to yours and tell whether you got a fake or not. From what I've seen, 99% to 100% of the sights under $110 from non-authorized dealers are fake.
The video shows the only differences I spotted: The battery, the o-ring around the battery cover and the laser inside.
This is why I just went through Sig. Just purchased one of these with a flip up iron sight. eBay and Amazon are the devils playground. Great video sir.
Just wanted to say Thank You. I bought one off Ebay for $88 and it came in today. After watching your video, everything is legit with the real one but the O Ring was super small like you described. I mean it has the gold plated battery compartment, etc... but the O ring is off. Went to return it tonight and the guy messages me and tells me their warehouse doesn't accept refund deliveries and he would send over a full refund... and sure enough he did haha. Just proves the point even further that its fake af. Appreciate it.
what seller was this? just bought one too but it had a thick O ring!!! so theyve caught on, and changed the O Ring, I could tell because of the Fake Makumi Brand Battery, and the color is darker than the real one.
@@KiLLJOY1056my advice for you is to get a refund like the original commenter. Also it would be best to go through Sig and only Sig because whatever issue you would get they will take care of you. Best of luck.
Thanks for posting this. I immediately checked mine and discovered it is counterfeit. Battery, laser and O ring all inferior. Plus my adjustment screws do not click. Mine shipped from China and arrived 2 weeks late, after I had already been refunded. Lesson learned.
I had a fake one. I was able to tell it was a fake b/c it had terrible parallax. And after watching your video, the O ring. Everything else was spot on.
I got a fake one on ebay that was counterfeit. Same as your fake ones. My battery was a real energizer on the counterfeit model. The o-ring was thin but they had the proper looking battery compartment. The Romeo5 logo was off. The color was also black vs Sig bronze. What tipped me off was your comment on the red-dot projector. The counterfeit projector was only black, no silver. BTW, paid $89 for the counterfeit and $129 for the real one.
Guys the fakes are getting better!!! watch out!! theyve improved the O Ring, and the Battery Compartment!! theyve also added the underneath print!! I told the difference with the Fake Battery called "Makumi" and also because the glue on the lens was Bad QC. mine has a thick O ring a realistic battery compartment, but was also missing that white piece on top of the silver thing on the led.
🚨UPDATE🚨
The new Romeo 5s are being shipped with Panasonic batteries.
Confirmed by Sig
Ugh, i have one coming today from ebay. Got a feeling it will be going back. Will look it over really good. I messaged the seller 2 times as it was on it's way and everything he said (in very broken English) didn't ease my worry's. USA seller but not feeling good about it. Great video. He did say I can return it if I wasn't happy so that is good I guess? I will report him to ebay if it is fake which I'm sure it is now for the price I paid.
I happened to get a fake one off eBay this past Wednesday, emailed the seller for a return and he is trying every excuse in the book not to give me my money back. I ordered it before watching any of these videos and watched them after I ordered. Immediately messaged the seller an hour after I ordered to cancel the order and he shipped it anyway the next day giving me no cancelation. I will wait till the 16th for my money back then I will have eBay step in.
Mine literally has a loose laser in it and a loose battery compartment. Had a Chinese battery already installed in it before I even received it. Came in a black hard cased box with an off center sticker on it. Also did not come with the sight install tool, had a small o-ring, and the sight turrets sit too high compared to a real one.
Sounds like the worst fake I've ever seen.
Nice video, thank you for educating us.
Thanks for video. I have 5 all together and 2 of them are counterfeit. The emitter is the dead give away. Looks like a black blob on the fake. The real one is square and defined silver and black. Also thin o ring but it's not as easy to tell that unless you have a real one to compare. Fake ones both came from amazon
Thanks for the video. Just bought one off Amazon and it didn't look the same as my other 3. It's fake trying to get a refund now
@@tylerdurden8942 Amazon and eBay are full of fake Romeo's. Order through authorized dealers such as bereli, palmetto State armory, academy sports, etc. and you will get a real one.
I got one from Amazon today 1/26/2023 and it is 💯 percent real. All American outdoors was the seller.
Thanks this video confirmed everything for me too. I appreciate it!
Damn I got swindled! Everything comes so close to looking like the real thing. The Battery compartment looked legit, battery was energizer no Chinese writing, but the O ring was thin and the laser has some thermal paste on it. I contacted ebay to dispute this. I'll get my money back..
Did they give u ur money back? I’m in the same boat
Yeah me too
You’re a real good man
I bought one on AliExpress $71 Canadian. It's the real deal ! I ordered another one today.
Thank you for this.
Read something from Sig, if the serial number has DNE it's a fake. I can't confirm but it was posted on a forum and allegedly was from Sig's Customer Service.
My fake one had a DNE serial number.
Do you mean the product number and barcode on the box? If not where's the serial number?
@@johnfowler6189 If it has one, it would be under the mount. You have to remove it, some of the fakes don't even have a serial number.
Has anyone used these fakes? Do they actually work and hold zero?
Got a confirmed on eBay and they refunded me without needing to return since the seller deleted his account right after the sale.
Was thinking of popping it on a 10/22 for plinking and wondering if it's worth the effort of trying to zero it.
I still have one of the fakes and could try it out I guess but I haven't because I don't want to waste the time or ammunition. One thing I notice is that the screws to sight it in are harder to turn and feel somewhat "gritty" compared to the real one. But if you didn't have a real one to compare it with, it's good enough that someone might think it's just the way they are.
I would sell it but I don't want to sell someone a fake without telling them and I don't think you're allowed to sell counterfeit items on ebay even if you disclose the fact.
BTW, the reason I have it is because I was refunded the money for it and I shipped it back to the seller using the address label he provided. A month or so later it came back to me as undeliverable.
I bought one on EBay recently that is apparently a "fake" and tried it out- it works perfectly. I have it on a new Colt 5.56 rifle and after I zeroed it in, I tried it out to 100 yards and had good groupings. As far as I'm concerned, if this lasts at least 3-3 years, it will be worth it.
I just sighted in a “fake” one at 50 yards and held 100 rounds of 556 just fine. Honestly I don’t know what to believe anymore because sig sauer support told me if the emitter is in the 5 o clock position and is all black and flat unlike the one in the video/ the one I have then it’s a legit sig sauer sight. It held up just fine but now I can’t return it to PSA because ik they want unused stuff. So for just target shooting and no hard use I think mine should be ok for a bit.
Mine zeroed well. Let’s see how it holds up
@@edwarddavies2703hows it held up?
I bought 3 in Palmetto state armory $119.99 each. But I’m not open yet. Hopefully 🙏 they’re real ones
They should be legitimate. A company like Palmetto selling real guns should always take those kinds of things seriously.
Primary arms..good peeps
Steven, what was the name of the seller from the one you bought on Amazon? I just bought one from seller Woot off Amazon.
It wasn't woot. I don't know if woot is an authorized dealer. If not, I wouldn't trust it's not fake without a close look. There's so many fakes out there and people having problems with fake ones leaving bad reviews is probably hurting sales of the real ones.
@@StevenShelikoff I looked into them. They were a daily deals site that was bought by Amazon in 2010. So I don't know if being an Amazon company means a better or worse chance of it being a counterfeit.
@@kyncaith just got mine delivered from woot for Christmas. Now I don't know if I can wait another week to open it. Hopefully it's legit otherwise back to Amazon it goes.
@@ihatenewyork Same here. Mine is sitting wrapped under the tree.
@@ihatenewyork So was yours legit or fake? I'm also thinking of buying one off woot Amazon.
It would help if u showed the fake ones instead of just saying what to look for .. but thanks for the look out
What about the xdr with the AAA battery how do you spot those?
Where on the box does it say it is manufactured?
@@reverendblkgrape1 mine says it just to the right of the bar code. Designed by Sig Sauer in Oregon. Assembled in China
Does yours also have red grease in the gaps of where u adjust your reddot?
I didn't notice it until I just looked. Very tiny bit in the one for elevation, a little bit more in the one for windage. I need a flashlight shining in there to see it at all.
@@StevenShelikoff Same here I think it's there to keep the water out the electronics
Woot or Highby outdoors from Amazon? Which seller is selling authentic?
I need to know. Just got one off woot😬
@@cadencrowe5741I just got mine delivered today from woot. It's genuine.
Got mine and it doesn't even work after turning it on a couple times.
So many fakes, SIG, Aimpoint, Eotec, Leupold et all. Sign of the times and bad for us all. Why inovate and improve a product when its simply going to be copied? Only safe way to avoid one is to buy from a established, well known dealer.
Always buy from an authorized dealer and don’t try and save 25-30% off the original price. That screams fake. There has to be a little mark up for whoever is selling it. If it seems Too good to be true it it’s too good to be true.
Thanks 👍
Real 3 rings fakes have 5.
Thank you just got a refund from eBay
So basically you bought three to get one real one, so you spent about 300 bucks when you should have spent $120 straight away and you would have been good to go. It pays to spend a little bit extra and not be cheap. Edit to add I own three of these and bought them all from palmetto State armory, going to go and buy a fourth it's only $119 with free shipping. I'm pretty sure all of theirs are authentic, and if not they'll stand behind it.
No. I returned the two fake ones for full refund including shipping both ways. Then I got the real one on Black Friday special for $109 from an Authorized Dealer.
test out if the fakes hold zero because I bet they do
Who's selling the fakes on eBay
Most of the ones on ebay are fake. If they're not an authorized dealer, if the price is less than around $110, it's probably fake.
Well fuck mine came with a sticky ass battery as well I also needed to take it off with goo gone guess I gotta hit up Amazon for a refund
If y’all know it’s fake then why buy💀💀 especially buying something that you depend on saving your life why buy off Amazon and eBay💀💀 that’s y’all first mistake
Mine keeps checking out as a real one from the videos but I think it's fake still lol
Get the predator reticle green
I would consider that if they made it with the lithium coin cell battery. I don't like AAA batteries for this application. I've seen too many of them leak and wreck what they're in. I've never had a problem like that with a CR2032. The only reason I see to go with AAA is cost. But what's a few extra $$ per year when your life might depend on it.
This is what happens when you farm out your manufacturing to china. Wondering if their magnifiers are being counterfitted too.
It could happen even if the manufacturing wasn't farmed out to China. It's pretty easy for them to buy one and make a "chinese copy." The real answer is: this is what happens when you have a country with lax copyright and patent protection enforcement.
@@StevenShelikoff na, its not that easy to reverse engineer. In china they get the drawings, PN for components...whole drawing package. much easier to make it from drawings then reverse engineering
@@patrickpk6299 that's exactly what I'm saying. If you farm out your manufacturing you have to give them the drawings and tell them how to make it. If not then they have to reverse engineer it, which is harder.
@@StevenShelikoffIdeological subversion is what it is, the enemy of the USA is within, in public and private institutions.... it is dishonest to give all of this to your ideological enemy, be as pacifist as possible, a hippie, they hate you and deep down you hate yourself.
Holosun is so much better the real sig is a joke compare the two.the sig occluded the outer ring to hide the laser...Holosun is wide and clear nearly impossible to see laser.uses every bit of lens..
Whatever works for you. I'm assuming you mean the 403b since that's the direct competitor. In use, on a rifle, I couldn't tell the difference between that Holosun and the Romeo5. So whatever differences you're talking about must be extremely minor, if at all.
I chose the Romeo5 over the 403b because it was a bit cheaper, more durable (7075 vs. 6061 aluminum, which is why you'll find videos on UA-cam showing how practically indestructible the Romeo5 is) and also because the Romeo5 is made in USA vs China for the Holosun. But to each their own. If you like your sight, that's what matters.
@@StevenShelikoff Holosun actually makes the sig romeo5, did you see made in USA anywhere on the box? If it does not say made in usa 99.99999% time its not.
@@motjones2341 hey you're right. So many reviews and online descriptions say it's made in USA so I just believed it. But the box fine print says assembled in China. Can't believe anything you read anymore.
I don't know if Holosun makes it or if both are made at the same noname factory on different lines. And that could change all the time from batch to batch, month to month. Who knows what really goes on there.
They're both so similar I couldn't tell much difference between them looking through both mounted on a rifle. But I'd still go with the sig because it does seem to be made of a higher grade metal. But who knows, that could also be marketing hype. The sig was cheaper so there is that.
