My partner and I tested both Speed and Scrambler 400 at the same time and swapped a few times so got a good back to back comparison.We both found the scrambler more comfortable slower to turn into corners but also not as twitchy feeling, the scrambler felt more stable.Also the Speed was more cramped and we both felt more heat from the engine. Our pick for comfort,fun and looks would be the Scrambler even though seat height was a little high for us.
@@user-lv5fv3ow8m go for Scramber 400X bcz the seat height is 835mm for this one and 795mm for Speed 400. I am 5’-6” and i tip toe on Scrambler but the Scrambler will be 100times a better pick than speed.
I do find it strange that we have this mindset that a 400cc bike is small and therefore would not be appropriate for continental crossing. We have been been brainwashed by motorcycle manufacturers that bikes should be bigger and more powerful and of course more expensive. Back in the seventies when I first started riding a 650 was a big bike and it seems crazy with modern technology getting more power out of smaller engines that we believe anything smaller than a mid sized engine is useless for touring/adventure riding. Some of this can be traced back to shows like The Long Way round but in reality many people have ridden around the world on bikes with much smaller engines and less technology. I got caught up in this myself, as a lifelong Triumph fan I had Triumph Sprints and Tigers and it wasn't till I dropped the Tiger on a fire road in Spain and it took me ages and lots of struggling to get it upright on a gravel road that I questioned why I had got obsessed with bigger and more expensive bikes over the years. I now ride a KTM 390 ADV and have ridden it all over Europe with no problems. It does the legal speed limit in most countries and was so much cheaper than the bikes I was riding before. Let's be honest it gets very boring riding on motorways for any length of time anyway. As a Triumph fan I am very interested in this bike even though on paper it is heavier, less off road oriented and there is as yet not much choice in screens luggage etc. It is good that at last Triumph have produced a machine for a reasonable cost of a reasonable size that would appeal to me and can't wait til I get a chance to road test one. Thanks for your input. When I am doing a motorway stretch at 120kph, I like to waft and have big power reserves 'just in case'. I'm afraid that 400s just don't cut it for me. Maybe for other riders they're fine, but in my old age, I prefer something more luxurious :)
Agree about the Speed looking better, there is something about the wheels on the Scrambler a bit "wagon wheels" somehow don't seem to look right, 63 next birthday & a dodgy hip is making moving my Moto Guzzi V85TT around a bit of a trial, seriously considering one....
Great insight as usual! Per Triumph, the brake pads from the Street can be fitted to the Scrambler since they use the same front caliper, if you want that extra bite. That does raise the cost a bit, though.
Well Triumph doesn't make them they are made by Bajaj in India. They already have the capacity to meet all needs, they can churn them out in quantity & quality in no time.
I am looking at one of these as an alternative to my DRZ 400S. I love it but it is bad on the highway the RPMs are really high and it burns oil like a mofo at high RPM. It was my first bike, so now I am getting the hang of it and I want more.
I’d also have the Speed over the Scrambler purely for the looks and the riding dynamics (and the saving) but, alas, I own a lovely old Yamaha SRX 600 single with does everything I want from a single. The new KTM 390 Duke is a lots of (small CC) for the money, too.
Pretty sure I will be getting one of these either in autumn or next spring. Currently sans motorcycle and riding a scooter which is actually a good tourer so keeping that.
As a 5'7'' mature beginner the Speed does look like the best option today for a post DAS 'real world' training bike. Id rather drop it than a MotoGuzzi V7, which is what i really want...
Thanks for the review , I test rode one today in the pouring rain after a wet ride to the dealership, a awkward ride I found and that front brake 😮 when I rode home on my speed twin 1200 it was like being back in bed with the woman you love . Mind you a ride on the 400 speed might happen at later date. Old I might be but that speed twin is so good 😊
I would not by the speed due to the handlebars are offset that makes them look bent. Why they released it like that is crazy. Im sure that will be corrected on the upgrade in 2026

Thanks, Simon. People can spot BS a mile away. I thought I wanted/needed this Scrambler, but turns out I don't, so I may as well be up front about it. The same happened 5 years ago with the Rocket 3.
As to the broken swingarm. It was a hire bike in the Himalayas. It seems it didn't just break, but was rammed. The dide was bent, footpegs ripped off, and other signs of major damage. He was swinging the lead in order to avoid paying up. Can't find the UA-cam post again. How many did that lie put off? Tested the Speed 400. Will go to Portugal on one when Iget it, from the North of Scotland. Have been on a RE Himalayan, and a Honda SH 350i. Cruise 65/70. Gets you there at 80mpg.
I'm loving your reviews. Can you do one of the BMW G310 GS? I see it as the main competitor for the 400X and where I live they are going for the same price. Single-cylinder engine, some off-road capability, cruise speed of 100kph, higher ground clearance, "premium" feel. Shame about the engine sound of the BMW though, lol.
Be very interesting to see someone put the Pirelli MT60 RS, which they make for this bike, on the speed 400 and see how that went off road. Because I have a hunch it might do very well, and for the price make for a neat little scrambler compared to the Ducati for the price difference.

In my honest opinion, i get a déjà-vu from my Honda cb500x. Its great value and this triumph even looks better. But that 40hp gets boring pretty quick. The problem is the gearing, which was exactly the same problem on the cb500x. The first and second there was too short, and cruising at speed (which i do often) was buzzy. I changwd the sprocket which helped, but then you do lose that acceleration. Lets be real, not many people are going to take this to dirt tracks. For a beginner, its good value, but triumph parts are expensive if you drop it
Pretty much sums it up. No high-speed cruising ability and limited off-road abilities mean it's no good for me personally, but as a small urban commuter (which I don't do) it could be a good choice. Ride safe :)
For a bike that is capable of cross-continent touring and 2 up touring + carrying luggage, I’d say the 1200€ difference is well justified. I used to own a CB500x and during that time I test rode a KTM Duke 390. The Honda felt like a much better finished machine, plus a lot smoother given it’s a twin, not a single. This is the old 2020 model I’m talking about, the NX500 with the upgraded fork, brakes and TFT must be an even greater leap ahead.
@kikoBW7 I've a 2018 cb500x and love it. Coming from naked style inline4 bikes I've done more miles on this than any of them. I am thinking of a nice classic cb honda of sorts or maybe a royal enfield classic 350 for abit of lay back fun
@@jaystarmini I’ve ridden all of Royal Enfield’s range as their ambassador, my pick of the bunch would be the interceptor 650 or the Super Meteor. All RE bikes are laid back, simple motorcycles, but the 400cc and smaller have a big gap in terms of components (brakes and suspension), the 650s are really in another league. For reference, I currently own a 2022 Africa Twin, which is my only bike for both commuting and touring. I hope it helps!
@KikoBW7 love to get a run on the africa twin even the 1000cc 1st gen model. Only problem for me is I'm not the heaviest or strongest of people at the minute. 5ft 11 and 9stone that africa twin would be a rocket ship!! Lol maybe someday
Am I witnessing a trend? Seems less is sometimes more. 6 feet 4, 63yo current owner of a CB500x Honda. X big bike owner, think Victory Cross, Kawasaki Voyager etc, (a long list). Loving 40-50 hp and 200kgs it gets the job done, 90 per cent of the time. I'm actually riding more on the smaller bike.
Riding the Scrambler 400 on the twisties surprised me greatly. My Bonnevilles require me to set up for sharp turns but with the Scrambler I just drive deeper into the curve and turn quickly. The Speed 400, being more set up for the road must be fabulous. However, with the wealth of forest service roads in my area, the Scramble is the clear choice for me. I have had zero issues with the bike at 1000 miles. My recommendation is simple. If you live in an urban area and don't go off paved roads get the Speed 400. If you are in a more rural area with primitive roads and light off roading opportunities, get the Scrambler 400X. Either way, you can't do any better in the 500 and under class.

Neither is better than the other, most important thing with any bike is that it fits! The scrambler will fit taller riders better. Every generation is getting taller and motorcycle manufacturers aren’t making bikes for taller riders so a lot of people are missing out.
Great thoughts and comparison video. I love the look of both of these bikes which are amazing value for money. I passed my test and went for the Honda Rebel 500 which having a low centre of gravity and 47 horses, makes for a great commuter and fab for filtering. If these had been available after I passed my test in 2022 I’d have probably gone for the speed as I’m not tall. However my dream bike is the T120. I’ve also got my eye on the speed twin 900 and street scrambler 900. Triumph make some beautiful machines don’t they?
Indeed they do. The T120 is a lovely bike, but try the Speed Twin 1200 before you sign anything. It's exactly the same price (within a few £) a the T120, but is much more involving, imho :)
Very fair review, I have seen a couple of other reviews and I thought the bike looked a little small so its good to know that you were comfortable on it at 6 foot 2.
I enjoyed your video but like your good self you've always got to decide if a new bike is better or has more character than the one you currently own. As an owner of a single myself is it for me instead of my BSA GoldStar, not by a long chalk.
Being 6.2 feet and close to 90 kg myself, I ordered the Scrambler 400x for delivery in 1-2 weeks from now - in Denmark, that is. Based it on the following: 1. For daily commuting and traffic, the upright position and wide handlebars on the Scrambler 400x puts you in a good position for quick responses and gives a nice overview without straining your neck. And I have no issue with reaching the ground when needed. 2. For the occational full day trip, good ergonomics come before max speed. The Scrambler 400x fits my size better. 3. If you go a little off road or at the beach, it´s also nice to have the scrambler, I guess. What is good about the Speed 400: 1. For the sunday trip with friends on small and twisty roads, the Speed 400 is perfect riding for fun. Looks like it belongs at the cafe as well. 2. Low seat and low weight accomodates smaller riders. The Speed 400 could become a very popular women´s bike. Looks good in red. Both models have great looks and charm. Note that if I had been say 5.6 feet or lower, I would happily have ordered the Speed 400. Just my thoughts, hope I did the right choice ;-) BTW: I am 68 years old and recently crashed my 1400cc Suzuki - so I am not looking for a beginners bike ...
I think a lot of older /experienced bikers will have similar thought, nice to have in the garage, but it would just be an ornament as you say.. Albeit a very very handsome ornament. Nice review 😊
I think it very much depends on how you plan to use the motorcycle. As a weekend playtoy on backroads, pretty good (especially finances are an issue). For a sole source of transportation that would spend a fair amount of time on high-speed roads, not so much. Still, it beats the 175 Yamaha and 360 Honda that had been my sole source transport at an earlier stages of my life.
I really think this is the way forward for my circumstances. I don’t want a bigger capacity bike anymore but don’t want a 125. Weight is ideal. Nice gloves by the way 😉
That UA-camr still has a problem as I asked him directly about it in the comments about 2 weeks ago. There is def. a problem with an oil leak from the engine head/block because there's also a demo sitting in an Australian dealership with the same problem and they're awaiting the part from Triumph.
Good review and I know reviews are all subjective - that's the whole point. I guess bikes are all about what you're used to? Buzzy? Try riding an RE Himalayan (400) - it buzzes constantly even when idling, rattles and vibrates like a mofo but doesn't bother me, because it's just a bike. Also happily rides at and over motorway speeds without redlining for over 5hrs, is comfortable and pulls uphill at those speeds. These bikes seem better than that for acceleration and overall speed so I'd be more than happy. I think those that think power is an issue are those that shoot off at 70+ from a standstill for some reason, then go 100mph down the motorways, or say you need more power for overtakes but then don't give enough space or time for safe overtakes anyway. Gearing seems a little odd here though. Torn between the speed and scrambler though. Maybe speed with panniers etc and the scrambler's tyres.
Thanks for your feedback, Justin. REs are well known for their vibrations. These Triumph 400s aren't terrible, but I was hoping for better, because at any speeds above 65mph, it quickly become uncomfortable. Ride safe :)
what about 55 min daily commute (1 way) speeds 80 to 120km/h roads, with an occasional passenger? Can i get away with this bike while having fun or should i buy more power?
I don’t think the power will be the main problem, although you’ll probably struggle to maintain 100km/h with a passenger. It’s going to be the lack of wind protection. The Honda NX500 or CF Moto 450 MT would probably suit you better😊
I noticed that every UA-camr so far has a memory issue when they review Triumph bikes like the competition suddenly disappears :) Nobody mentions the new Husky 401 with a new LCD screen, better engine, quick-shifter, adjustable suspension, etc. for almost the same price.
As you infer, quite a number of motorcycle you tubers are raving over the bike. It is undoubtedly very handsome and very (overly) competatively priced for obvious reasons. However, for a lot of riders looking to downsize to something with reasonable power and killer looks it is an obvious choice. From my point of view, when I do downsize from my 900 Scrambler I'd doubtless go for something like this, but looking for 150 - 160kg wet, or a downsize begins to make less practical sense

I’m waiting until they start hitting the used market. The sale price is good, but the extra $2k in taxes and bullshit dealer fees make me ok with waiting.
As I said in the video, they seem to have moved the pegs somehow - although I don’t know which ones - because my heels weren’t touching the pillion pegs, as they had done on the Speed🤷♂️
I thought about this and I'll probably just end up changing the gearing on the scrambler either from the get go or after a while when i need new sprockets anyways

Well, it could but it would be pretty uncomfortable. The engine could just about do it - although it would be very vibey - but then there’s the complete lack of wind protection. Tbh, I’d think twice about it on my 1200🤔
i live in Spain and would ideally like a bike that would be happy with sitting at 120 just to keep up with the traffic on the big roads. my DRZ is amazing for exploring off road and the dirt, but not so great for going any real distance. I've been looking at the Himalayan 450, but i see a lot of people complaining that the engine feels rough and it has no low end... will you be trying this bike some time in the future? thanks for the reply!@@RocketMan_Moto

Great review, i will be looking forr a red speed 400 for myy garage, in about 18 months, when dome owners realize they've bought a "garage queen" so a big saving for me and a low mileage bike. That way when it's my garage queen, it womt feel bad for my wallet! 😅

The Speed Twin and the Translap were the top two of my next bike. I rode a Triumph 900 Tiger for a weeks holiday in Spain, Great Holiday, but the tiger left me cold (the old engine) No vibe or feel. (My bike at the time is a NC750X dct (2021) I have been lucky enough to ride and own so many bikes, From 1500 Goldwing, K1200RS to Honda CB1 (400cc 14k redline) and XBR500 Single, So looking for the bike that ticked "all" the boxes was hard, so what did I buy! A BMW R1200R, SE (2023) 2800 miles with a few extras. The price was right 2/3rds the new price, I had to go for it! There are two local dealers 25mins and 47mins both with excellent reputations. The bike is a long running model, with a well proven engine. And after all my test rides, I put a small (refundable) deposit before even swinging a leg over over one! The bike itself was 170 miles away, so a quick visit to nearest dealer to see if a demo was there, I was honest when asking them, they didnt', but did have a 2nd hand model, The salemans said fill your boots, if you buy the other guys (it was 2k cheaper then theirs) gives us a better chance of selling ours! This is turning to one long story, but seeing as you have been such a helpful and down to earth youtuber, I thought I would let you know. Oh and having done 500 miles already I love it, now just to get those bits to make it mine! Thanks for you all advice and tips I will continue to follow all your content
Interesting review and to hear that the scrambler in green is sold out in europe. This happened with the street triple rs last year. I put a deposit down in March in the uk and got told September delivery. Not happy with that. I shopped around and luckily, I got a cancelled order and delivery in April. But they sold out really quickly. I wonder after all of the hype leading up to launch, how many other models sell out?
I don't want to be too negative here, but I'm wondering if these bikes aren't being sold on the hype at the moment. They're nice, especially to look at, but owners may get bored with the 40hp after a few months and then we'll see the used market flooded with them.
@RocketMan_Moto I agree the 400's won't be for everyone. I thought I'd relive my past a few years back with Honda Dominator 650. It was fun getting it up to together and back on the road, but I soon got bored with it and didn't ride it, so I ended up selling it. The point I was trying to make was that Triumphs new bikes receive huge praise and rightly so, but then they can't meet demand and sell out quickly, leaving buyers disappointed. Just wondering if that happens with other brands?
I bought my speed 400 few months back. When me and friends went for test drive we felt how flickable the speed was. Even though scrambler was stable at high speeds and had a less windblast compared to speed I choose the latter due to my usage around the city and I am happy with it. I would agree with you on most of the points and add to that the headlight is mediocre on both scrambler and speed. And I would like to know if you had any engine cut off issue at slow speeds (not to be confused with slow speed higher gear). Most of us in india are facing this issue even though it came down significantly over the course of 3 months with help of ECU update from Triumph/Bajaj. If possible kindly let us know what type of octane you use on your petrol. We in india use Octane 95 that's a level above normal petrol.
I had heard that the stalling issue has been cured with the ECU reflash?? 95 is the minimum octane rating here in western Europe (not sure about the east), but I usually put 98 in my bikes. Thanks for your input and ride safe👍😊
As a ktm 390 2022 (bajaj produced) former owner that had issues with the bike from the first day of ownership and the bike ended up being a buy back, i would recommend waiting a bit and getting to know what issues arise with the bike. I bought the 2022 ktm thinking that bajaj should have had all issues figured out since the engine had been out for so long and well that wasn't the case. Lesson learned.

My interest in the 400 Scrambler is based on really liking the Scrambler style(I have 2007 Triumph Scrambler) and single cylinder(I have motard DR650). I'd love to see the two melded into one. 40hp is enough but want the torque of a bigger single which the 400 Scrambler can't have.

You can always opt for the sintered pads once you wear down the organic ones on the Scrambler.

This is buzzy above 60mph, so be careful. The gearing is very short in all gears, especially the first three, and you're at 6000rpm at 60mph :(

Thanks for the review , I test rode one today in the pouring rain after a wet ride to the dealership, a awkward ride I found and that front brake 😮 when I rode home on my speed twin 1200 it was like being back in bed with the woman you love . Mind you a ride on the 400 speed might happen at later date. Old I might be but that speed twin is so good 😊

I would not by the speed due to the handlebars are offset that makes them look bent. Why they released it like that is crazy. Im sure that will be corrected on the upgrade in 2026

Yes! Scrambler is for tall guys, Speed will be tight . I own one here in India, I'm 6ft, 86kg of weight.

As to the broken swingarm. It was a hire bike in the Himalayas. It seems it didn't just break, but was rammed. The dide was bent, footpegs ripped off, and other signs of major damage. He was swinging the lead in order to avoid paying up. Can't find the UA-cam post again. How many did that lie put off? Tested the Speed 400. Will go to Portugal on one when Iget it, from the North of Scotland. Have been on a RE Himalayan, and a Honda SH 350i. Cruise 65/70. Gets you there at 80mpg.

I'm loving your reviews. Can you do one of the BMW G310 GS? I see it as the main competitor for the 400X and where I live they are going for the same price. Single-cylinder engine, some off-road capability, cruise speed of 100kph, higher ground clearance, "premium" feel. Shame about the engine sound of the BMW though, lol.

Be very interesting to see someone put the Pirelli MT60 RS, which they make for this bike, on the speed 400 and see how that went off road. Because I have a hunch it might do very well, and for the price make for a neat little scrambler compared to the Ducati for the price difference.
I'm sure that, with the right tyres, the Speed would be as capable off road as the Scrambler. Well, apart from the suspension travel...

In my honest opinion, i get a déjà-vu from my Honda cb500x. Its great value and this triumph even looks better. But that 40hp gets boring pretty quick. The problem is the gearing, which was exactly the same problem on the cb500x. The first and second there was too short, and cruising at speed (which i do often) was buzzy. I changwd the sprocket which helped, but then you do lose that acceleration. Lets be real, not many people are going to take this to dirt tracks. For a beginner, its good value, but triumph parts are expensive if you drop it
Pretty much sums it up. No high-speed cruising ability and limited off-road abilities mean it's no good for me personally, but as a small urban commuter (which I don't do) it could be a good choice. Ride safe :)
I think traction control on the Speed is switchable but ABS is not. Both are switchable on the Scrambler????

What is the price difference for you for the new nx500 and this?
The Honda is about €1200 more
For a bike that is capable of cross-continent touring and 2 up touring + carrying luggage, I’d say the 1200€ difference is well justified. I used to own a CB500x and during that time I test rode a KTM Duke 390. The Honda felt like a much better finished machine, plus a lot smoother given it’s a twin, not a single. This is the old 2020 model I’m talking about, the NX500 with the upgraded fork, brakes and TFT must be an even greater leap ahead.
@kikoBW7 I've a 2018 cb500x and love it. Coming from naked style inline4 bikes I've done more miles on this than any of them. I am thinking of a nice classic cb honda of sorts or maybe a royal enfield classic 350 for abit of lay back fun
@@jaystarmini I’ve ridden all of Royal Enfield’s range as their ambassador, my pick of the bunch would be the interceptor 650 or the Super Meteor. All RE bikes are laid back, simple motorcycles, but the 400cc and smaller have a big gap in terms of components (brakes and suspension), the 650s are really in another league. For reference, I currently own a 2022 Africa Twin, which is my only bike for both commuting and touring. I hope it helps!
@KikoBW7 love to get a run on the africa twin even the 1000cc 1st gen model. Only problem for me is I'm not the heaviest or strongest of people at the minute. 5ft 11 and 9stone that africa twin would be a rocket ship!! Lol maybe someday

6 feet 4, 63yo current owner of a CB500x Honda.
X big bike owner, think Victory Cross, Kawasaki Voyager etc, (a long list).
Loving 40-50 hp and 200kgs it gets the job done, 90 per cent of the time.
I'm actually riding more on the smaller bike.
Nobody needs more bike than this… but it’s nice to have, though😊
Riding the Scrambler 400 on the twisties surprised me greatly. My Bonnevilles require me to set up for sharp turns but with the Scrambler I just drive deeper into the curve and turn quickly. The Speed 400, being more set up for the road must be fabulous. However, with the wealth of forest service roads in my area, the Scramble is the clear choice for me. I have had zero issues with the bike at 1000 miles. My recommendation is simple. If you live in an urban area and don't go off paved roads get the Speed 400. If you are in a more rural area with primitive roads and light off roading opportunities, get the Scrambler 400X. Either way, you can't do any better in the 500 and under class.

Neither is better than the other, most important thing with any bike is that it fits! The scrambler will fit taller riders better. Every generation is getting taller and motorcycle manufacturers aren’t making bikes for taller riders so a lot of people are missing out.
I'm 1m87 and so generally prefer bigger bikes, but I prefer the smaller Speed 400. Thanks for your input :)
Great thoughts and comparison video. I love the look of both of these bikes which are amazing value for money. I passed my test and went for the Honda Rebel 500 which having a low centre of gravity and 47 horses, makes for a great commuter and fab for filtering. If these had been available after I passed my test in 2022 I’d have probably gone for the speed as I’m not tall. However my dream bike is the T120. I’ve also got my eye on the speed twin 900 and street scrambler 900. Triumph make some beautiful machines don’t they?
Indeed they do. The T120 is a lovely bike, but try the Speed Twin 1200 before you sign anything. It's exactly the same price (within a few £) a the T120, but is much more involving, imho :)
Very fair review, I have seen a couple of other reviews and I thought the bike looked a little small so its good to know that you were comfortable on it at 6 foot 2.
The Scrambler is obviously smaller than a Tiger or Transalp, but I felt fine on it
I enjoyed your video but like your good self you've always got to decide if a new bike is better or has more character than the one you currently own. As an owner of a single myself is it for me instead of my BSA GoldStar, not by a long chalk.

Being 6.2 feet and close to 90 kg myself, I ordered the Scrambler 400x for delivery in 1-2 weeks from now - in Denmark, that is.
Based it on the following:
1. For daily commuting and traffic, the upright position and wide handlebars on the Scrambler 400x puts you in a good position for quick responses and gives a nice overview without straining your neck. And I have no issue with reaching the ground when needed.
2. For the occational full day trip, good ergonomics come before max speed. The Scrambler 400x fits my size better.
3. If you go a little off road or at the beach, it´s also nice to have the scrambler, I guess.
What is good about the Speed 400:
1. For the sunday trip with friends on small and twisty roads, the Speed 400 is perfect riding for fun. Looks like it belongs at the cafe as well.
2. Low seat and low weight accomodates smaller riders. The Speed 400 could become a very popular women´s bike. Looks good in red.
Both models have great looks and charm.
Note that if I had been say 5.6 feet or lower, I would happily have ordered the Speed 400.
Just my thoughts, hope I did the right choice ;-)
BTW: I am 68 years old and recently crashed my 1400cc Suzuki - so I am not looking for a beginners bike ...

I think it very much depends on how you plan to use the motorcycle. As a weekend playtoy on backroads, pretty good (especially finances are an issue). For a sole source of transportation that would spend a fair amount of time on high-speed roads, not so much. Still, it beats the 175 Yamaha and 360 Honda that had been my sole source transport at an earlier stages of my life.

That UA-camr still has a problem as I asked him directly about it in the comments about 2 weeks ago. There is def. a problem with an oil leak from the engine head/block because there's also a demo sitting in an Australian dealership with the same problem and they're awaiting the part from Triumph.

Good review and I know reviews are all subjective - that's the whole point. I guess bikes are all about what you're used to? Buzzy? Try riding an RE Himalayan (400) - it buzzes constantly even when idling, rattles and vibrates like a mofo but doesn't bother me, because it's just a bike. Also happily rides at and over motorway speeds without redlining for over 5hrs, is comfortable and pulls uphill at those speeds. These bikes seem better than that for acceleration and overall speed so I'd be more than happy. I think those that think power is an issue are those that shoot off at 70+ from a standstill for some reason, then go 100mph down the motorways, or say you need more power for overtakes but then don't give enough space or time for safe overtakes anyway.
Gearing seems a little odd here though. Torn between the speed and scrambler though. Maybe speed with panniers etc and the scrambler's tyres.
Thanks for your feedback, Justin. REs are well known for their vibrations. These Triumph 400s aren't terrible, but I was hoping for better, because at any speeds above 65mph, it quickly become uncomfortable. Ride safe :)

what about 55 min daily commute (1 way) speeds 80 to 120km/h roads, with an occasional passenger? Can i get away with this bike while having fun or should i buy more power?
I don’t think the power will be the main problem, although you’ll probably struggle to maintain 100km/h with a passenger. It’s going to be the lack of wind protection. The Honda NX500 or CF Moto 450 MT would probably suit you better😊
I noticed that every UA-camr so far has a memory issue when they review Triumph bikes like the competition suddenly disappears :) Nobody mentions the new Husky 401 with a new LCD screen, better engine, quick-shifter, adjustable suspension, etc. for almost the same price.

As you infer, quite a number of motorcycle you tubers are raving over the bike. It is undoubtedly very handsome and very (overly) competatively priced for obvious reasons. However, for a lot of riders looking to downsize to something with reasonable power and killer looks it is an obvious choice. From my point of view, when I do downsize from my 900 Scrambler I'd doubtless go for something like this, but looking for 150 - 160kg wet, or a downsize begins to make less practical sense

I’m waiting until they start hitting the used market. The sale price is good, but the extra $2k in taxes and bullshit dealer fees make me ok with waiting.

As I said in the video, they seem to have moved the pegs somehow - although I don’t know which ones - because my heels weren’t touching the pillion pegs, as they had done on the Speed🤷♂️
No doubt the Speed is a more rational buy, specially for city use. But Scrambler’s look, ahhhh… definitely caught me and I choose it.

Replaced my Grom with a ZX4RR. Its a very gentle small bike unless you ask for the rpms.
And much more 'realistic' than the Grom :)

Well, it could but it would be pretty uncomfortable. The engine could just about do it - although it would be very vibey - but then there’s the complete lack of wind protection. Tbh, I’d think twice about it on my 1200🤔
i live in Spain and would ideally like a bike that would be happy with sitting at 120 just to keep up with the traffic on the big roads. my DRZ is amazing for exploring off road and the dirt, but not so great for going any real distance. I've been looking at the Himalayan 450, but i see a lot of people complaining that the engine feels rough and it has no low end... will you be trying this bike some time in the future? thanks for the reply!@@RocketMan_Moto
The most important factor at 120 is wind protection, and the Scrambler has none at all. Very wearing after a few minutes.
Would love to watch/listen to you do a quick ride review of the Honda NX500 and listen to you compare it to the older CB500X (which you said Honda had finally nailed). Planning to pick up the new NX500 and would like to get your thoughts on whether the new one is a worthy successor.
I keep pestering my Honda dealer, but they haven't got an NX500 demonstrator in yet :(

Great review, i will be looking forr a red speed 400 for myy garage, in about 18 months, when dome owners realize they've bought a "garage queen" so a big saving for me and a low mileage bike. That way when it's my garage queen, it womt feel bad for my wallet! 😅

I know I have keenly watching all you Vids, as you did such great reviews of the bikes you ride. The Speed Twin and the Translap were the top two of my next bike. I rode a Triumph 900 Tiger for a weeks holiday in Spain, Great Holiday, but the tiger left me cold (the old engine) No vibe or feel. (My bike at the time is a NC750X dct (2021) I have been lucky enough to ride and own so many bikes, From 1500 Goldwing, K1200RS to Honda CB1 (400cc 14k redline) and XBR500 Single, So looking for the bike that ticked "all" the boxes was hard, so what did I buy!
A BMW R1200R, SE (2023) 2800 miles with a few extras. The price was right 2/3rds the new price, I had to go for it! There are two local dealers 25mins and 47mins both with excellent reputations. The bike is a long running model, with a well proven engine. And after all my test rides, I put a small (refundable) deposit before even swinging a leg over over one! The bike itself was 170 miles away, so a quick visit to nearest dealer to see if a demo was there, I was honest when asking them, they didnt', but did have a 2nd hand model, The salemans said fill your boots, if you buy the other guys (it was 2k cheaper then theirs) gives us a better chance of selling ours!
This is turning to one long story, but seeing as you have been such a helpful and down to earth youtuber, I thought I would let you know.
Oh and having done 500 miles already I love it, now just to get those bits to make it mine!

Interesting review and to hear that the scrambler in green is sold out in europe. This happened with the street triple rs last year. I put a deposit down in March in the uk and got told September delivery. Not happy with that. I shopped around and luckily, I got a cancelled order and delivery in April. But they sold out really quickly. I wonder after all of the hype leading up to launch, how many other models sell out?
I don't want to be too negative here, but I'm wondering if these bikes aren't being sold on the hype at the moment. They're nice, especially to look at, but owners may get bored with the 40hp after a few months and then we'll see the used market flooded with them.
@RocketMan_Moto I agree the 400's won't be for everyone. I thought I'd relive my past a few years back with Honda Dominator 650. It was fun getting it up to together and back on the road, but I soon got bored with it and didn't ride it, so I ended up selling it. The point I was trying to make was that Triumphs new bikes receive huge praise and rightly so, but then they can't meet demand and sell out quickly, leaving buyers disappointed. Just wondering if that happens with other brands?
I bought my speed 400 few months back. When me and friends went for test drive we felt how flickable the speed was. Even though scrambler was stable at high speeds and had a less windblast compared to speed I choose the latter due to my usage around the city and I am happy with it.
I would agree with you on most of the points and add to that the headlight is mediocre on both scrambler and speed.
And I would like to know if you had any engine cut off issue at slow speeds (not to be confused with slow speed higher gear). Most of us in india are facing this issue even though it came down significantly over the course of 3 months with help of ECU update from Triumph/Bajaj.
If possible kindly let us know what type of octane you use on your petrol. We in india use Octane 95 that's a level above normal petrol.
I had heard that the stalling issue has been cured with the ECU reflash?? 95 is the minimum octane rating here in western Europe (not sure about the east), but I usually put 98 in my bikes. Thanks for your input and ride safe👍😊

As a ktm 390 2022 (bajaj produced) former owner that had issues with the bike from the first day of ownership and the bike ended up being a buy back, i would recommend waiting a bit and getting to know what issues arise with the bike. I bought the 2022 ktm thinking that bajaj should have had all issues figured out since the engine had been out for so long and well that wasn't the case. Lesson learned.

My interest in the 400 Scrambler is based on really liking the Scrambler style(I have 2007 Triumph Scrambler) and single cylinder(I have motard DR650). I'd love to see the two melded into one. 40hp is enough but want the torque of a bigger single which the 400 Scrambler can't have.
