- We are converting my buddies 2003 Chevy Astro Van into an off-grid camper!
We are building this van at 11,000 ft elevation on top of the mountains in Colorado. Using only solar from our skoolie build to power all the tools.
We are planning to make this a 7 to 10 day build from start to finish!
Day 3 - Finish ceiling, install the 8000 BTU Diesel Heater, and enjoy the 4th of July.
Day 4 - Marcelo wraps Gavins Astro Van in sweet black vinyl, we frame in the slat pullout bed, and install the electrical system.

About to be building out an astro of my own and seeing you guys do this day by day almost in real time is incredible. Most definitely the smartest step by step vid I've seen!
Hey James! Matt here- that’s awesome! I’m glad that these videos are helpful. We are posting another tonight about making a pullout slat bed. Your comment made making all these videos worth it! Thank you for the encouragement and letting me they are useful to others!
Thanks so much for these videos!!!!!!!
they say the insulation batons aka that pink stuff doesn't work well when wadded up. there is a thermal imaging video from the company that makes it, here on YT. might not matter in your application.
Wow that’s good to know! Thanks for sharing
Awesome build.
I have the same van and am also planning on putting a Similar diesel heater in… Did I understand that correctly The fuel tank will be inside? Or outside?
It can be inside or outside. Just whatever you are comfortable with! My buddy left it inside to make it easier.
Thank you! Hope the videos are helpful for your build
lol Shanti

What is the material added to the silver strip going around the exterior? Thanks!
Hey Jordan! Are you talking about the aluminum trim? If so thats what it is aluminum angle to protect the edges from constant steps. We also used it to clean up some areas to give it a really finished look!!
@@TheirHappyTrails I'm talking about the surprise your buddy did while you were away to the exterior. That wrap material.
