£40 a month for a gym membership you’ll never use or a day in the sun with the family, rolling around in the grass, beautiful way to stay happy and strong.
Perfect for the small field I have. I don’t have a tractor or bailer but am only growing about 3/4 acre for sheep. Reduces mowing and helps save on feed. I’ve been trying to figure out how to harvest and bale by hand. Great video thanks!
Hi John, I agree with you but will all the work involved, would it not be more efficient for harvesting loose hay for such as small acreage? Peace be with you, Ciao, L (Dairy Farmer, ME, USA)
This is great, a simple and effective ,manual method. I've just inherited a 5 acre meadow which will be splt 5050 between ponies and a hay crop, and this is the perfect solution. The compression method looks like a hell; of a workout if you're doing more than 20 bales, did you try using a heavy flat board and climbing on top to jump on it?
Dude great job there. You've tide one down at 6 minutes with that artifact there. For real i've seen dude's take longer time with better equipment. Keep the good work and stay healthy. And buy the way, having your family around you keeps a proper family environment. Blessings to all
Well.....I like the idea, and if you have the time and inclination to manage a field, great, especially if you haven't the money for other options.. But the longer it takes, the more opportunity for rain, sickness, other emergencies to foul the process.Hat's off to our ancestors who did all their scything and haying by hand, but this is one of those jobs that a little modern tech has really benefited.
Good workout. Somethings I noticed. (1) Lift the wooden block with your knees not your back. I saw you twisting in motions that could easily cause you some serious physical hurt. (2) Consider having a chair or table near your area to set the block on so your not lifting it from ground level all the time. (3) I saw a pole sitting there. Put a hinge on the pole with a long arm with another arm dangling straight down with your wooden block on it Set it up so it will compress down to half way through your container and you can use your weight in a fulcrum action to get a tighter bail. (4) Use that same fulcrum to tie the string on and push up to get a tighter string on the bale so it does no fall apart. Just some ideas if your still doing this the Video is over a year old.
So glad we got a bailing machine in, worth the euro per bales as we would not have gotten the hay in dry. This looks like amazing hay. Well done at going low tech and putting in the elbow grease.
Finally, a productive use for a wheelie bin! I’ve used a cardboard box before now - made cute mini bales ha ha ha, but never thought of the wheelie bin, great idea!
Could you please do a follow up video on how you tied your bailer twine? A bit more closeup, possibly without hay obscuring the view of your knots and bottom holder plate. That would be really great, thanks.
This was a great little video I might just make one of these to bail up some of my clippings Sad that so many people decided to put nasty comments on here tho :-/
The old method of putting up hay was to put the dried hay into a haymow and have the kids pack it down by trampling it to a compact mass. Then when needed the old timers used a hay knife to cut out what they needed for the feeding. To me, bailing by hand seems like a lot of wasted work, but if that’s what you like then more power too you and good luck
I like the idea of using a trash bin, but the pressing has to be improved with a lever mechanism. Also., I've got the feeling the whole thing is too slow for a lot that large.
Wow , I am could actually do that . I don't want to make a box baler so this has to be the easy way if you make small amount of bales and have time . I will make the time , very good video
You must love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. You must love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus the anointed is Lord! Repent and be baptized and believe the Gospel.
I actually enjoyed making bales with a baler as long as the knotters tied ok. He's going to have to pick up the pace if he wants to get that field done in a month. I worked for a local farmer in 1970 for $1 per hour. One day I stacked straw bales on a hay rack pulled behind the baler. about 100 baled later we pulled the rack to the hay yard and unloaded them and stacked them by hand. we did about 2000 that day. I earned $12.00. I don't know what I spent it on ( likely about 20 gallons of gas for my '51 dodge) but I do remember being tired that night. 20 gallons of gas today would cost $120.00. I wouldn't expect some 16 year old to put up that many bales by hand today!
4m46s per bale. Not bad at all. That's fairly impressive as for a hand made bale 👍 I'd be very happy to get even 9 or 10 done per hour. So thanks for your innovation 👏👏
My fathers answer to too much rubbish in the bin was to buy one of those metal compactors that fit under the wheelly bin handles. The rest of the family just cut down on the rubbish that bought. Anyway, one of those compactors, just a metal frame, would help you once your field is producing more than you can store as it would tighten up those bales. You might what a few straps in their, just in case it really fills the bin.
well if take nothing els from this block wood with handle presses bale. every thing els use complicated wooden plunger thing that mounted box two grove holes for string pass through. easer move just heavy block around.
nothing wrong with storing loose hay,, if you have a big enough airy hay barn.. but by compressing it and forming it in to bales its easyer to move around + you can store it in a smaller space
Hope you're not planning on baling all that cut hay from that field by yourself with that only "baler", because you have several long days ahead of you.
Lorna Burdge Nothing wrong with doing this on a small scale. I need 30 tons of hay a year for my cows and I don’t have slaves...I mean kids, so my Kabota will have to do. This would be fine for one or two milk cows.
Just because he is larger size does not mean he is unhealthy. While you weigh less, your arteries are most likely clogged to the brim. Show this man some respect.
+Bradley Hamilton LOL you're the one with no respect ... And 2nd you don't know me and you don't see me, so keep fantasizing about me what you want :-D
Small field, wanted to try baling it by hand and we got it done within a couple of days in-between other work. No need for commenting on his weight when you don't know how fit or strong he is.
This is definitely the small head strong back way of doing things! GOOD EFFORT! But if I had to bale that way I'd sell the farm and buy a condo in Florida. This is good as a novel pastime or to get a jab at the new guy on the farm but as a main means to bale it's crap. If you want to do things the old fashioned way then find some plans and build a proper baler. What you've got there friend is in all seriousness a novelty.

Kids being raised the way kids should be raised. Good work man!
This is amazing, been trying to buy a hand pine baler with no luck. This is fantastic. Save me a fortune

All I can say is that if I'd had to bale like this, I would've cried. This is amazing.
Samanda ok
don't need no fancy machinery . love the way the youngin wants to help.
so nice to see your kid, helping his/her father !!
Wonderful
Thank you for the idea
I am not able to make one from wood
This one will be easy and useful
For little farmers like me
💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
Right on Man!! Great if you only need 10 bales a year.
You're a great man to be doing that! That's just SO fantastic WELL DONE!!!
Are you sure .. its very easy

Good ideas, esp for his back!
I saw "somethings" with your horrible grammar but I won't waste my time.
Relax amigo, he's trying to help. Good advice.
Those rules are probably for people who've never worked so hard in their life.
So glad we got a bailing machine in, worth the euro per bales as we would not have gotten the hay in dry. This looks like amazing hay. Well done at going low tech and putting in the elbow grease.
Bloody brilliant! Have you made a bale sledge to fit your baler?
Wow near 4 years since the legend that is Jimmer was baling hay by hand, hope the new farming venture is going well.
I loved this! Going to try it with a smaller box because my yard is small.
Finally, a productive use for a wheelie bin! I’ve used a cardboard box before now - made cute mini bales ha ha ha, but never thought of the wheelie bin, great idea!

It was all baled over a couple of days in-between other work
Only 299 more to go, and hope it doesn't rain in the mean time : )
Do what you got to Do with what you got to work with 👍
Wow , I am could actually do that . I don't want to make a box baler so this has to be the easy way if you make small amount of bales and have time . I will make the time , very good video

Good man work with what you got! Im doin it!
It gives you wellness, accompany the clip. The life of the countryside is sweeter than the life of cities.
Respect!
7 flakes in that bale. Can you retrieve them individually when you undo it?

Nice idea, tq sir..
Awesome. Thanks for sharing!
Good job 👏👏👏👍
This method suits our needs perfectly. We need to store hay out of the wet weather. I hope we can get our winter feed bill down to almost nothing.

Пыльная работа. С тюками все же проще обращатся.
Your little boy was trying to help you.
Love this 💖
Would have liked to have seen how the twine is tied or attached inside the trash can. Very neat idea!
Have you ever seen video of how the Amish hay ? They pile it high into these mounds. It's pretty interesting. They leave it in the field.
great idea! Thanks for sharing
Ideen muss man haben toll !!
very good !!
still not got farmers lung i hope
Que jisnasio níquenada puro musculo 😎👍👌
Sweet little baby wanted to help Daddy load the baler!
Do you rake it by hand?
+CoyoteFur Its all down by hand. Cut by hand, baled by hand.
Don't do this if you have hay fever. 😉
Brilliant
Why not stack the hay rather than bale it? Do you have to move it a long ways?
where's the fun in just stacking it?
I suppose that depends on how high you can stack it.
+Denise Skidmore didn't want to stack it, wanted to bale it
Good exercise
Hey farmer ... Were are form please .
Thanks for helping us
This is too cute
could try building a rick
👍👍👍💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿👍👍👍
I love this and how you do it, but watch out cause at 4:22 your son, well yeah
Hay the mans recycling by useing the bin as a baker
You need one jhaun deere my frd!
this is simple but its too much slow work.
Good job 👍
Does a Baler not do the trick?
Why will someone give a video like this thumbdown
wear a mosquito net face cover to stop the hay getting in your face
Jesus christ my sinuses
I could use better picture of the bottom twine system
well if take nothing els from this block wood with handle presses bale. every thing els use complicated wooden plunger thing that mounted box two grove holes for string pass through. easer move just heavy block around.
The Wooden box with the Plunger creates more denser hay that doesn't fly everywhwre
Why bail hay? Isn't it just as good loose?
nothing wrong with storing loose hay,, if you have a big enough airy hay barn..
but by compressing it and forming it in to bales its easyer to move around + you can store it in a smaller space
It was a neighbour's field which they wanted clearing. Seemed like a good opportunity to see if it could all be baled by hand.
Bugger that:)
Hope you're not planning on baling all that cut hay from that field by yourself with that only "baler", because you have several long days ahead of you.
+ANTHONY N. He's not afraid of hard work.
It was all baled by hand within a couple of days in-between other work.
Ready for brexit then, :)
Stupet work
Stupet comment
Plz use the mask for dust
The animals could eat the hay quicker than he is baling it.
Can't blame a guy for trying 🤷
Lorna Burdge Nothing wrong with doing this on a small scale. I need 30 tons of hay a year for my cows and I don’t have slaves...I mean kids, so my Kabota will have to do. This would be fine for one or two milk cows.
Watch out for herniated discs pop., mind how you lift.
Dust mask
ئەی ماخەرا بەس ئیش نەبوو خۆت گوشت ..!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🐕
Pff all the dust and back braking work, when a little baler is so cheap :-/
+lepaul26 By a baler and pay a gym right? He seems happy, probably live longer than your fat ass putting around on a tractor all day.
+Diesel Ramcharger Don't you mean "buy" ? And he looks fatter than me !

Thanks for the feedback but it got the job done just fine.
