You won't need to choose between a Cherokee and a Compass soon anyway. The Cherokee is being idled/discontinued this year and Compass will be the only option between the two left.
Yeah that's true and it makes me sad because the Cherokee is a real off-roader. The compass isn't bad but the Cherokee with the REAL low range and the rear locker makes them totally different. They also ride totally different The Cherokee is a much more wide feeling and planted car. I think the Cherokee was much more expensive to build than the compass. I own both. My Cherokee Trailhawk would smoke my wife's compass Trailhawk off road... It's not even close.
@@kevinkotchevar2339 True, but the Grand Cherokee is in a completely different market segment than the Compass or Cherokee. It is a much larger vehicle and in a different price category.
Good for Jeep for building a truly capable off-road Compass. Those are really great angles and with skid plates. Bad for Jeep, that price is ridiculous.
Consumer Reports says that since Jeep sold to FIAT, their Reliability is in the toilet. Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep are all owned and manufactured by FIAT now. They weren’t very reliable before selling and now they’re Worse.
More like a *Grand* Compass with that price, amirite? They somehow are the only ones replicating the original RAV4 with those off-roading chops. Shout out the always great Fjällräven Raven bag.
Checked one out three weeks ago when they first hit my local dealer's lot. I was excited to try it because of the new engine/transmission. Problem is, I'm not comfortable in it. The restyled interior increased the size and height of the center console and my knee is resting uncomfortably against it. Plus the footrest on the left wheel well is a lot closer to the driver than most. I'm 6' 3" - not ridiculously tall. Plus the $40,755 price tag made me choke (pretty loaded Altitude trim).
The $46,000 price on this and many other new cars is ridiculous and out of reach for most people. Is there a wage increase that’s provided with it? I’m happy to see the powertrain and interior updates but I’m skeptical about Jeep’s quality and reliability.
Almost $47K for Compass is borderline insane. But what about Ford Escape ST line for $42K? Same mental distinction. The point is that it is what it is. Inescapable.
They have a high price, because they are available, and CRV’s still have a long wait list in some areas. Local dealer told me he had sold a lot of 2023 compasses to people who were told they had a 1-2 year wait for new CRV’s These things are comfy now, but there is nothing really special about it. The power is ok, but definitely nothing to brag about. This thing is NOT an off-roader lol. Storage space in this is pretty small, and it doesn’t have any good extra storage spaces at all.
A relative of mine has a 21 CRV now at the dealership with electrical problems. He returned a previous hybrid because of sudden acceleration problems. What’s happening at Honda?
some people say the price is too high and I do kind of agree but id definitely get one if I didn't need all of the room of a grand Cherokee. I'm not disappointed about the driver assistance tech because I like driving my car I don't need the car to beep or move me back in the center of my lane or drive for me its just another thing in modern cars that is going to brake and cost a ton to fix or when you get in an accident just costs more for the insurance to pay or total the car out because its so expensive.
Fantastic review! Those are yesterday's v8 numbers (from the early 2000s and 1990s. This is nuts !). Give me a REAL low range and a locker and im sold. But NEVER for 47 grand. I can get an old 4x4 and put ANY mod i want on it for thay price and it would be way better ... Sorry to say... And the thing about it is... It's got so much electronic crap that can break now and no one can afford to fix it so they're going to dump this car at 50,000 mi and it will just about be off to the graveyard or sold for almost nothing....
Oops, you're right! My (admittedly, a bit too hasty) research dug up that North American Compass models are manufactured in Melfi, IT and Toluca, MX, but I just ran the VIN after seeing your comment... and, yes, our test car was assembled in Mexico. Good catch!
CarGurus : good for you for getting a 2.0 Inline4 Turbo with 200 HP....because in EU we only get 1,5 litre Inline4 with MHEV 130 HP at 1550 kg and 1,3 litre Inline4 Turbo with 130 HP + 60 HP HybridE at 1935 kg....which both are weak....even for this car that is a small SUV....those engines just don't cut it.
Not loaded. Its an age old debate. Purchase a fully loaded mainstream vehicle or a base luxury brand missing many desirable options. Apples vs oranges.
A XC60 basic starts at 55k and a Compass Trailhawk at 48k here in Europe, big difference. A full-option XC60 far exceeds 70k...You can get a wrangler 4xe for that!
@imdone1965 I agree. I am actually considering a Cx5 as we speak. The conversation I was engaged in had nothing to do with a Cx5. The original post I was responding to was about how the Volvo XC 60 & Lexus NX and this Jeep all being priced similarly. Base price of the Volvo is $46k, $16k higher than the base Jeep, and goes over $60k, $14k beyond this Jeep. The Jeep starts at around $30k and ends at $46k fully loaded. The Lexus starts at around $40k, $10k above the Jeep's base, and can also exceed $60k, $14k above this top spec Jeep. Not at all an apples to apples comparison. Not a fair comparison. Would I buy a $46k Jeep Compass? Never. I also would not buy a stripped-down $46k Volvo or $40k Lexus just to drive one of those nameplates. I want the equipment and options that make a vehicle enjoyable and livable day to day. I am not a badge chaser. I would not settle for a base Lexus or Volvo or any luxury car that lacks the equipment just to drive the luxury car.
The Mexican made chassis platform of the Trailhawk is the same as the street worthy Dodge Hornet. It had the noisiest interior sound levels we tested of 8 SUV's. Seats were not comfortable and too flat. Even at 40 mph around town it was very, very loud. When taking it for some light off road it was full of creaks, pops and crackle's. On a horizontal left high, right low angle the door would not close properly showing a very flexible car like chassis. Big pass, especially for 47K...
That price tho, sure its now superior to Cherokeew hen it comes to interior, technology and even looks simmilar, but...in configurator Cherokee would cost me 45k, and Compass with simmilar packages-46k
@@greggschoof8051 sorry I was wrong, the Melfi plant makes all sorts of cars. I was just thinking about the North American market, but yeah, they make the Compass in lots of places for different parts of the world. My bad.
Jeep Compass is a scam that unhinged meathead people fall for, "trailhawk", "jeep" i had one too and there are far better suvs out there and that are less stressful and flawed
Jeep is for America like VW is for Germany. Premium yet Mainstream. The entry point to American luxury brands ie Cadillac , Rivian ect. Plus they will have their own top tier Label “Wagoneer”

I’m surprised Jeep has anything except the wrangler.
I just bought one just like this. I love it! Mine is identical to this one.

I love these new Trailhawk Compasses but no way am I going to shell out $46,000 for one. I saw one at local dealer for $34.
Yes, buy the Jeep Compass... It'll _likely_ be reliable for the first couple of years while it's still brand new.

What about the acceleration and comfort
It took me a long while to be decently comfortable in the 2022 compass. i stopped letting people behind my wheel a long time ago
and im 5'7
Go with Cherokee or Grand Cherokee, whoever buy compass must have an untold story

I saw a new Jeep Compass at a dealership with all the packages for $48K 🤯. Who in their right mind would pay that for a Jeep compass?!
Love how natural Matt is with his reviews 👏🙌
The car care nut rips this thing apart on his review. He really points out how incredibly cheaply they’re made.
The off-road chops are probably the only reason to get this over the Honda CRV.
But I'm sure the Honda will be more reliable
Love my 23 trailhawk. Got it at 7700 miles used for 28,500 which is the price is should be at

I ordered a New Jeep Compass Trailhawk late 2022 It's not a Turbo however it's a total little beast off road Love It!
