@@GuyChoooThere are immune and then there are carriers. Carriers still hold the virus in them. I’m guessing this ending implied Nick’s lucky genes ran out.
Fun fact: Both Bill and Nick shares the same slot as "default characters" when you start a game on a console command. For example, if you type a map command for Apartment (the first map of No Mercy campaign), you'll play automatically as Bill unless you change characters via cheats. Same goes for Nick if you enter a map command for Hotel from Dead Center.

@@depvik2580 same and I play like that when I'm playing Ellis I'm playing Louis (everytime I play a l4d2 campaign I'm playing l4d1 campaign next and vice versa) because I share and pair each survivors by their personalities, for example both Nick and Francis are assholes and both Bill and Coach have leadership skills and both Ellis and Louis have optimistic personality

Despite him being a jerk and a gambler, he still joined the gang and grew comfortable with them to the point he could call 'em friends.
And in the end when he realised he's fucked, his selfishness just vanished. For once in his life he wanted to do something right. And he did it.

also why if you play on solo with nick he will sometimes say after finishing a chapter "I'm starting to like you guys"
He’s not a convict tho, he was a gambler. The devs of l4d2 said they had voicelines and concept art for nick to be an inmate, but they chose him to be a gambler instead of an inmate

I'm pretty much sure he was due to the fact he and Louis both were a part of one band (Louis has the tattoo, and Nick has a finger ring with the same band logo).
And after he got out apparently, he robbed a shop and took on a suit that costs 4 thousand dollars (by his words, of course).
I may be wrong tho.
@@AverageDot just because he's part of a gang doesn't mean he was a criminal or a literal escaped inmate. second off that line from Rochelle about someone stealing a 4k suit? that's cut dialogue, the devs said it in the commentary setting. He wasn't an inmate at all, there was a concept art and idea he was going to be one, but that storyline was cut in favor of a different one.

@@alalvarez7301 - you’d wonder how many people before him faced the same fate. Official campaigns and custom campaigns alike, we’d sometimes encounter a dead corpse hunched against a wall and wonder what their final actions were before they took their last breath or pulled the trigger.
@@Pluvillion sometimes you can hear gunshots in the distance while playing no mercy as part of the ambiance.
@@theopinionreaper - it's to ground the idea of having other survivors out there. If I recall correctly from the commentary, Valve didn't want the players to feel completely isolated so they added tidbits to create an atmosphere without being intrusive.

honestly, the concept of nick being the only one in the group not immune would be so much more impactful.
imagine through the first few chapters us getting to know and love nick, only to realize that he is infected and wont be allowed on the heli at the end.
talk about character development and a sacrifice to boot.
That sounds awesome I can imagine in his dialogue as time goes on you'll hear him having more labored breathing which leads into full-on coughing fits in between sentences

Not really, the infection time seems to vary between people. There's a wall of graffiti in the safe house of the No Mercy finale that has people write that they've seen people take up to 4 days to turn and L4D2 takes place in less than a week. @@user-nt3hm2qv1u
@@user-nt3hm2qv1uThe wall writing from left 4 suggests the time to turn is rapidly changing. nick simply could have been infected by a weakened version of the virus. Similar to Jenkins from halo the flood he still retained humanity even as his body deteriorated.
A few hours later, we all know that nick will magically be stuck in one of the closests asking for help and the survivors are confused

I want this to be the ending of a zombie movie, where the main character is a dousche who slowly gets better and makes some good connections with the other survivors he's with but eventually near the end gets bitten and this is where he completes his character arc by doing everything in his power to get his friends to safety and fends off the last few zombies like a badass and peacefully dies a hero.

It's said the survivors are immune but imagine a plot twist revealing that Nick isn't immune and he was actually getting sicker and sicker as the campaign continues, until The Parish comes by where his sickness is finally taking him, so the rest of the gang wants to race against time to get to the military and get a possible cure, but it's too late, Nick decides he'd rather make sure they all survive and he leaves himself behind, despite it costing his life, for once he cares about others more than himself.. that'd be crazy and severely emotional.
And the map is literally called "The Parish"...
One of Nick's line did say.
"I'm getting sick and tired, of being sick and tired."
Well the virus is airborne so if nick wasnt immune he would be zombie like a end of the dead center

But the actual word, parish, as defined by Google is “(in the Christian Church) a small administrative district typically having its own church and a priest or pastor.” Although, looking at this definition, I see that there is a 2nd definition, which is probably the one that applies here, despite the P in the corresponding poster being an upside down cross. The 2nd definition reads “(in Louisiana) a territorial division corresponding to a county in other states.” I replied to your post with my original comment because I wasn’t sure what you meant with that last line.
This ending fits Nick’s character. A scoundrel who decides to help the only friends he’s ever had in the end, by sacrificing himself for their safety.
Have you ever noticed that in single-player L4D and L4D2, you are respectively playing as Nick and Bill? Does that imply that Nick could pass away? They both act similarly now that Bill is gone.
I think that's why Nick respects Bill when he discovered his death because he was gonna do the same thing.

In L4D2 both survivor groups share slots with each other, Bill translates to Nick, Rochelle translates to Zoey, Francis to Ellis, etc. I don't think there's much more to it other than just being how the game is coded.
Plus they really aren't the same at all, Nick is a douchebag that sort of (not really) redeems himself at the end of L4D2 while Bill is just the innate leader of the first group that downright sees them as his surrogate family whom would gladly give his life for (which he did). Nick never portrayed such ideas, not even at the end of the game. I'd say Coach and Bill fall more into the same type of character, whether the game's survivor slots agree or not.

A "sacrifice" ending like LFD1 would have been great but this time with Nick as the one who canonically sacrificed himself, Bill did it because he was the oldest and had little left to live, Nick could have been his redemption after a lifetime of crimes.

It looked like he was trying to look back at his friends one last time before succumbing but couldn't, also if you notice, the last shot was a headshot on the tank, you can see the blood pool expand as the camera pans out. One hell of a kill to go out on

Nick turning out not to be immune and was just trying to endure long enough would be an amazing plot twist if L4D2 was a movie.
He'd know he was fucked but at first wouldn't care, but as he grows close to the other survivors and realize his time was almost over, he decides to do the right thing and stays behind
It would've been so cool if after the screen fades to black you suddenly see the iconic left 4 dead hand pop up and its nicks arm.
I've said this so many times but I feel like out of the 4, Nick is the most interesting one. He needs to be the face of L4d2 to symbolise how everything has gone to shit. He has so much potential

I’ve always been a fan of heroic sacrifices. This one is amazingly simple yet I can’t stop enjoying it
What makes this even more disheartening, is that this wouldn’t be like Bills sacrifice. There’s no Tanks, there’s no infected horde, it’s just that Nick is simply unlucky and isn’t immune/a carrier.
With Bills sacrifice, the others would’ve likely died to the Tanks if he didn’t step up. However, Nick didn’t need to save the others from a Tank or something, he was simply doomed from the start.

How it feels to make it to the end of the bridge only to get stopped by the 2nd tank
I never appreciated how fucking epic this is, a half infected Nick fending for the rest of the team and saving them is such an awesome turn of events. But it’s also so fucking sad.

I geniuely love this. You wanted to make the B.B ending but with L4D2 so you decided to whip out your balls and finish Nick's L4D2 arc in the best way ever. No legit, even if that whole thing everyone's said already of "but they're all carriers and can't get infected", the idea of Nick turning out to actually *not* be inmune and having just gotten luckier than most/having a stronger defense system that lasted him all the way to The Passing, you've just given us an entire alternate show with an ending scene meme.

The only good thing he did for the rest of his teamates is to protect them until they made their way to the final part. Even if he did everything wrong about Ellis and Coach especially to the old survivors, he still pretty make sense to put in the game

A player is playing as nick. A timer pops out of nowhere placed on the top of their screen. It shows how many minutes or seconds they got to get on the helicopter, and if they are left behind or the timer runs out. This ending shall play.

Though I have to ask, why exactly did Nick start turning? Aren't all the survivors "immune" to the zombie virus? Since it's confirmed to be airborne, then that means that Nick was practically bathing in the virus but yet somehow it's just now that his immunity decided to betray him.

This also reminds me of Alien Resurrection, when Larry had a chest burster. But lasted way longer than any other victim somehow, and end up sacrificing himself to kamikaze at who caused him to end that way.
In this one, Nick was not a carrier but was able to last longer than anyone else. + With the Breaking Bad reference, there are a total of 2 references.

Good animation, nice to see L4d animations being made again. Though in the lore of L4d, since the groups a carriers, they can’t really get infected, only Hague if and transmit it to others. But who cares, this is still a good animation.

I really like Nick's role, makes the most sense lore-wise. For me (I AM VERY BIASED TO COACH I AM SORRY), I would always see Coach sacrificing himself for others, sure Nick's the perfect candidate, but imo, his character development wouldn't be possible without Coach. Anyways, LOVE the animation. You've earned a sub.
A sacrifice that would really hurt is both Coach and Nick. Coach tries to buy time, but is failing. Nick, seeing how these folks laid down their lives to save his ass time and time again stays behind to take up arms with Coach to buy the other two just enough time to escape.
Nick sacrificed himself for the greater good of humanity.
