Greg Davies's father made sure that his son was born on Welsh soil so that when Greg became a rugby international, he would play for Wales. Fortunately for comedy, Greg showed little talent for rugby, but he retains a sense of connection to his Welsh roots and, two years after his dad's death, wants to know more about them. Greg gets more than he bargained for when he identifies a wayward great-grandfather but is rewarded when the trail leads further back to the deepest Welsh roots anyone could wish for.

I love how done she looks when he says: " I rule this! " XD
Ahahahahahaha or when she says 'that's fine'
@@Marina-pe1gx and the eye roll haha!
Do they really have enough arms to all be realted?
she has the personality of a dish rag
"They're all the Prince of Wales - even the women!" LOL
Greg Davies is literally the best.
Absolutely!
Agreed. Magnificent beast
Owain Ap Gruffudd (Owain Gwynedd, Owain Mawr) 1100-1170 is my 25th great-grandfather! x
Greg Davies on Graham Norton’s chat show is my favorite….his stories are the best!
Greg is such a delightful human being ✨💛✨
I have only seen him on The Graham Norton Show on UA-cam. He's funny and has great stories to tell
@@CraigGrant-sh3in check him out on Would I Lie To You (on youtube), it’s an awesome and super funny panel show and Greg Davies has been on there several times!
We are ALL the Prince of Wales!
26th great grandfather here.
I love him
Turns out the Prince of Wales was the friends/people he met along the way...
"What a view" Stunning to us in this day and age, can't imagine the farmers from back in the days of horse and carts or hobbed boots would agree esp in the winter time
So hilarious that Greg Davies has a moment of 'delusions of grandeur' when he hears he's descendant from the first Prince of Wales... only to be brought down quite a few pegs when he finds out that EVERYONE in the pub is descendant from that same 12-century 'royal' (as are most of the people living in the surrounding area).
I thought myself pretty special when I found some of my ancestors came to America on the Mayflower. Then I found out I was one of about ten million who could claim that.
Absolutely doesn't matter WHATSOEVER!!! 🥰
Yep, Same when I discovered I'm descendent of Robert the Bruce 😅
It's a very rural area with small villages that families stayed in for generations that's why, my gg grandfather was from that area and so I'm told only one of the family to ever leave and he could also in a clear line trace his family back as well. Welsh Family history is important to the Welsh people.
@@ahighlandlegacyboergoats My grandfather was from that area( born in 1889 to give you a timescale ) He went away to sea aged 13, as those small farms could only support a few people. Many men and boys did the same in those times and before, so they travelled far and wide and no doubt plenty settled elsewhere, my grandfather settled in South Wales. This is from the snowdonia heritage website
The captains of Nefyn and their crews would sail to the far corners of the world during this period, in ships built on Nefyn beach. The families were very familiar with Labrador and Bombay, and rounding the Horn was a familiar experience to them
"I knew it"
We knew it too. That's why Katherine Ryan made you a Lord over a small square plot of land, Lord Davies.
That was where my brain went, too! 😂
I love the programme and the history and family tales that have a some truth but not the whole truth, but this take by Greg had me laughing and amused. So refreshing!!
Greg is such a handsome man
huh??
If Owen Gwynedd had 19 children in the 1100s, he probably has millions of living descendants now... (EDIT: I posted that before he went into the pub cuz I didn't realize they'd make that clear)
Over a billion (if a generation lasted 30 years)
@@11Kralle over a billion? Most of which would be alive, statistically.
More then 19, he had at least 25 that are known of, here is the list, also he is an ancestor of all Kings and Queens of England from 1485 onward as Henry Tudor (King Henry VII) also was descended from him. Henry married the daughter of King Edward IV, Elizabeth of York who i'm descended from through their daughter, Margaret so he is my ancestor as well.

@@billijomaynard8924 Please find some hobby other than Copy/Paste. And yes, you did an excellent job. 🥰🤣
Handsome man.
I would love to experience this.
I am a direct descendent from Charlemagne. As are millions of others I understand. 🤷🏼♀️
So is one of my aunts through countess Mechthild of Baden.
The Grandfather of Europe!!
Anyone with European ancestors are direct descendants of Charlemagne I too have him in my tree..
Also in my tree as common as that may be. It’s still neat to know.
You too?! I thought it was just me. I had to unlink him in my online tree, because A) I can’t read medieval german or Latin. And B. The tree just spiraled out of control. Just too much information coming in way to fast. I’m pretty sure about the link to both Langobards (250AD) and Clodio Merovingian.... is it correct? 🤷🏼♂️
How come nobody ever comes from the village ditch digger?
There are usually no/ very few records on the village ditch digger back that far. They probably do come from a lot of ordinary people, but it's harder to find them.
Wealthy people’s children had a better chance of survival too
I bloody do. I did loads of research, convinced I was related to someone grand and important only to find out my family were stolidly in the same bleak part of the North West of England no matter how far back I went and they were all mill workers and farm hands. I stopped in about 1650 because I could just tell it was going nowhere lol.
He is so funny, i like him. Of course he is Prince of Wales. I would chose him instead of Charles.
Greg has a very interesting story
Greg inherited his eyebrows haha
Even I’m descended from King Owain Gwynedd, & I’m 7th generation Australian 👑 (nice to have you on board, though, Greg).
"and how many of you have got 6 fingers?"
I think it would be really interesting to see if Humor is somehow a genetic gift. even if it's just haveing neurons that snap a little faster in a certain regard. Because I don't know anything about my family beyond grandparents. My sisters and I just attribute our ability to tell hilarious stories to our mum raising us on her own. But we joke that it's genetic. even though we have no evidence of that.
I was watching something on TV about before about Ghengis Khan, because he had so many male children and it said a (and widely accepted) nowadays approx one in every 200 men on the PLANET is a descendant of his 💯🤔🤯
Funny
The lady wasnt happy when he said ...I ruled this!
the real royal family lived in glamorgan .
I’ve been working on my family’s roots in the U.K., last name Davies, hmmmm
I really enjoy these series, I just wish that they would state which part it is. in other words just state part 1., 2. etc.
8/8
Well Greg my great grandparents where called Davies you never know
So his Greatx3/grandfather was the legitimate Prince of Wales🤔tats refreshing.
Im prince of wales also!! (o-0)
Katherine Ryan Bought him a Lordship so he is Lord Davies.
That's what happens in those small communities. Everyone is a relative ......
I can't remember if it's six or eight generations back, but the same couple is on both of my mother's parents' family trees. They lived in neighboring towns.
I dont like how they have a prince of wales in quotation marks
I think it was to signify it was different to the English imposed title that Prince Charles has.
Everyone’s related somehow to the Royals. Nothing to get excited about!
That's your family greg
I am also related 😂
hes more welsh than tom (woodward) jones and gareth bale english ancestry
Pour woman is going to have a neck-ache from having to gawk up at the great lummox.
And not just Owain Gwynedd either 🤔
What he's a Royal???
The Taskmaster has red pants …
Looks like we are distant cousins!
You both are descended….
Great. But I have no idea what Greg Davies does.
Comedian in UK. Watch the show The TaskMaster on UA-cam...
watch some of his videos on youtube, his standup is also on Netflix, he's hilarious
He regularly brings the house down at The Graham Norton show...
Google is hard.
Isnt he an actor as well? Feels like ive seen him in something
She looks like she's wearing a necklace made of teeth :\
Why is she trying to make a point that the first Prince of Wales had a lot of children? --- who cares ---- he's a descendent!
Im related to your caucasion creators, do you hear me going on about it, lol. Welsh people, bell ends.
Yep, you're doing it on this thread!😂
My parents live in Criccieth
"And that's all I'm going hear, I'll be honest with you." Had to laugh.
The Magnificent Beast turns out to be a Prince! Brilliant!
Gosh, Wales is so lovely. 😍
Yes it is 🏴
God's country ❤
I’m the 37th great granddaughter of Alfred the Great.. I have English Irish Scottish Welsh French Bavarian German Spanish Macedonian Italian Royals in my tree tracing my tree all the way back to Basil de constantinople to the princess of Armenia and to the Romans’ I done a dna test which confirmed I was English Irish Welsh Balkan Italian Greek. What I learnt during my research since 2014 was my ancestors were at war with each other throughout many generations it’s been an interesting journey
you’re prove of peace then
@@p.sandratangkulung6451 and it proof not prove 🤣
My ancestors fought each other a lot too (American, German, English, Irish, Welsh & Scots-Irish). Two of my ancestors actually fought on opposing sides of the same battle in the American Civil War. I always knew the 2 sides of my family would have generally fought against each other in that war, but I had no idea it would be quite so specific.
Well...when you consider with wars - where the rulers family and descendents would be "protected" ...I'm sure those that were being killed ....were the end of their bloodline - so that only leaves the preferred or favored people to be fruitful & multiply.
I am to believe that everybody who has even a drop of English ancestry is related to King Edward III. You may still be a descendant, although that would be incredibly hard to prove too. With the sparcity of records before 1800 even, it's incredibly unlikely, although still possible.
Sorry, Owen ap Glendwoyr was the first King of Wales. My direct ancestor is Owen Glandowyr, the first King of Wales
In this context, prince and king are used interchangeably, from what I understand.
I’m sure I saw Owen Glandowyrs the first king of Wales name while I researching my Powell side of my family tree
I am also a Bowen. I've been doing my ancestry and its taking me on a wondrous journey.
Remember in taskmaster how one of the comedians, bought land in his name and made lord Greg Davies , part true .
That was a scam.
I really like this guy Greg Davies. 👏🏼🥰
I think I saw that name in my family research, as well.
Owen ap Owen;s family
