It's extremely unfortunate that Shisui's story ended when it did. Both he and Itachi were narratively the best characters and easily Hokage material at such a young age. In a sense they were carrying out the true will and vision of Hashirama himself, and now Naruto and Sasuke can reap the benefits of their hard work and sacrifice.

No one has the will to do something like that. Killed the entire clan for the greater good of the Village. Itachi Uchiha & Shisui Uchiha could've been two of the greatest Hokage ever. What Itachi Uchiha did, no one else can.
The whole build up of the uchiha clan from madara leaving the village before the first shinobi war to the kyuubi attack was so good that itachi's arc felt like another anime entirely. I loved everything about it, it was here where we witnessed a different side of the shinobi world and the leaf village, the grandfatherly image we had of sarutobi hiruzen the third hokage and the peaceful facade of konoha was forever destroyed. And of course we learned what a true shinobi is.
