Love to take the train. Way lower stress level than when flying. Also, they don't have packing restrictions (such as 311 rule) and many times they are less crowded. The Pacific Surfliner runs from Santa Maria down to San Diego and provides breathtaking views as it travels near the pacific ocean. Love the tips regarding the DOT dashboards. I have only had a few flights cancelled, but was caught in the Southwest shutdown last holiday season. Never made it to my destination, but I did recover some of the costs, and they provided credit and air miles for future travel.
Keep in mind. Most flights in the winter cancel and delay due to weather. Just because the weather is good where you are, or where you’re going doesn’t mean you’re in the clear. It’s possible the plane you’re suppose to be on gets stuck in another city before it can come do your route
Big tip from a California based frequent flier: do not fly through SFO in the winter. Due to runway restrictions they lose half their capacity when the weather is bad.
I missed a connecting flight with Turkish airline from lax to Greece at Athen, I contacted Turkish airline and got zero paid. Also Spirit airline yesterday, also miss the connecting flight, stayed at the airport for more than 12 hours, also got nothing.
Do you have any tips for Australian flights.. it seems to be the standard thing for the airlines to cancel flights everyday... for example it was my bday last weekend and i wanted to go interstate... but i could not rely on the flights to get me back home before work on monday... so i didnt go.. And driving is a 20hr trip each way

I would love to take the Amtrak more but they were always late for me - one time I had to just cancel a delayed trip by rail and just drive 🤷🏻♀️
