With the 2mm lead holder you can also use the side of the lead for large shapes and shading. Sharpen, then extend the lead a bit more to get clearance and then it works well. Holding around 30-45 degrees, you can vary line weight and get thicker clean lines. Neal Adams used these techniques in his pencils. It allowed him to do finished pencils much faster than drawing with just the point. Great vid

Thank you very much for that informative comment! I will be studying more of his work. He was an amazing source of knowledge and his art is very inspiring.

I like the Mitsubishi Hi Uni better than the tombow or whatever. They're made from lighter wood and more of an animation pencil - the reason for that if you're drawing 12 + hours a day the hands fatigue more with the heavier drafting pencild

Both the tombow and Mitsubishi are made with cedar

I will give that one a try as well. Makes sense I tend to draw more like 8-10 hours sometimes less with all this video editing. Thanks for sharing!

I use that .5 zebra mechanical pencil for everything. It’s my all time favorite for everything, including sketching

I pretty much only use 2B .3 & .5 lead in mechanical pencils. I will use a .7 for thicker lines or for faster shading. Recently I’ve been using a 4 or 5 H to sketch with so it’s really faint lines, then go back with the .3 or .5 to detail with.
I’m the same way tho, I have a crap ton of different types of mechanical pencils I’ve bought to try, but always go back to the basics.

I like Staedtler for 2 mm and Zebra Delguard for 0.5. Those are most comfortable for me personally among other 10s.

What 0.5 lead is that? Super Hi Polymer or something else?
