Just got this version of the Studio. Really nice pen both in terms of style and to write with.

Just bought myself a Studio Imperial Blue with some Christmas money. I've written with it for hours at a time and have not yet had an issue with the section, though I can understand how some people might. Great review, thanks!

Thanks much for your comment. Yeah, I guess it all depends on the grip and how wet the hands tend to get. There are lots of pens with metal sections out there - and they have their fans. Happy to hear it works for you. Enjoy your new pen!

Thanks again for a good review. I wanted a pen for sketching and eventually bought a steel Lamy ST (not the Tri Pen, whatever that is). It's as close to a pencil as I could find but there are few UA-cam reviews about it. The clip on the Studio that others find so appealing did not impress me. The ST has a flat clip and is easier and safer to pack in my art kit. It also has the rubbery plastic grip you mentioned and it really is easier to use for any length of time. Posting is the same as with the Studio.

martynsnan thanks for your comment! I can totally see why a ST is a better fit for your use case. The tri pen holds two different ballpoint refills plus a mechanical pencil. As for this fountain pens, you might also wanna look into the Lamy CP1 or the Diplomat Traveller.

I totally agree, the chrome and plastic sections give very different writing experiences. I do prefer the plastic one as well, and found that they are available seperately. I bought mine from Bureau Direct in the UK, and am very pleased with the end result - plastic section/coloured cap and barrel. I also have wet dreams about the red glossy one, WIld rose, is it?

Ove Bjornson awesome, thanks for sharing this tip! I think the red one was once a special edition and not officially available any longer. Maybe preloved...

Lamy studio imperial I purchased in 2020 but rarely used, same reason the slippery grip . Then got an idea few weeks ago .. I keep a piece of tissue paper alongside, rubbing the fingers and the grip off and on.
Well .. made me start using this FP !

Why not use fine sandpaper on the chrome grip of the Lamy Imperial blue (also the Lamy Studio Racing Green) so that it has a brushed metal feel. It would improve the grip when writing. I wonder why Lamy made the grip in chrome. Defies logic. Form must be functional, especially at the point of use.

Totally agree with the form follows function notion! Wow, the sandpapering is an awesome idea that I have never thought of! Makes a ton of sense. Hope more people read your comment here, as I think this is a super useful idea. Many thanks, again!

The plastic grip section has only drawback though - in some time (or specific storage) the rubberized coating may become sticky.
Got this with my Lamy Studio steel version.

When the cap of the pen is closed, is there a slight play between the bottom and the cap?

Is the black grip rubberised, or plastic. I can't tell.
I have a number of Al Stars, the blue Studio and the black Studio. Also a couple of very good Japanese pens. Quite simply the Lamy pens are incredibly good. Yes, a Japanese pen at two to three times the price is better, but not by so very much.
Greasy hands is a problem with the shiny grip, not so much wet ones. I know, I do my planning for the day with tea, toast and marmalade. Buttery fingers and all. But, talking about greasy hands is not so polite in the pen world. 🤔
Nice review again, good Sir. 👍

It is rubberised. For me, it is not greasy hands that are the problem, as I do wash my hands very often. For me it is indeed slightly wet/sweaty hands, especially in summertime/spring. Thanks for the kind comment! :)

I also have a brushed steel version and although I love the design of the pen I cannot get used with the very sharp edge of the barrel above the section. Do you find same sharp edge issue with the the two pens that you have?

    • @Scrivelynotes
      @Scrivelynotes  7 років тому

Incognito None I can definetely see what you mean with the brushed steel one. When I pay attention to it, I can also feel that edge being a little sharp. When I dont pay attention to it, it is not an issue though (for me). That same edge isnt sharp at all on the blue pen - because of the different material/finish of the body.

Incognito None Same pen. No issues. But the cap edge is very sharp, but i don't have any issue as well.

Plastic on top of steel section or totally plastic on brushed steel?
