Huge fan of Mike Massamino, what a treat, I wasn't even paying attention to the title of the video, Craig mentioned his name and I was stoked. Mike is a regular on the StarTalk podcast and is a lot of fun. He's not aggressive (like some guest hosts can get haha) and is self-deprecating and funny. Love it when he's on or hosting.
37:27 Craig asks Mike what the fuel for the Space Shuttle smelled like when it was being fueled for launch. The liquid fuel RS-25 engines of the Shuttle, and now the SLS, mix liquid Hydrogen and liquid Oxygen and that chemical reaction is what creates the thrust of those engines. The big orange center tank under the Shuttle fuselage holds about 2x as much LH2 (liquid hydrogen), as it does LOx (liquid oxygen). And yes, the exhaust of those liquid engines is literally water vapor.
Hey, the awkward pause, this was a pretty transformative year for the show
Right! I'm seeing a lot of "first's" this season too! 😊
The first awkward pause!! :)
