- Another month, another monthly. Welcome back.
This month is all about sampling, with a side of looping (of course). I find there's so much room to play when it comes to sampling, and we're going to use that idea to tour through some new devices. It's been a bit of a feast for me, I just love this stuff.
As is the custom, sponsorship disclaimer:
This is a sponsored, but unpaid video. The featured instruments were given to me, but all the thoughts and decisions were my own.

The updated Patreon is in swing, including a Discord I've been really enjoying. I'll be announcing the second monthly Nudge challenge in a couple days. Maybe the prize is related to this video, I 'unno. Check it out maybe:

This feels right.

Any day knobs puts out music into the world is a good day.
I purchased Cycles because of your Polyend Tracker video. Went on a deep dive of granular, and Cycle's is by far my favorite program I've ever used. Ended up making a full album with it, and a video showing how I used it. I'd love to hear what other people make with it, I feel like it deserves lot more buzz and attention.
Sorry for the late response but I checked out his Polyend Tracker video and I don't notice him using Cycles in it. I would like to see what you're talking about though if possible? lol :)
@@BIG_PASTA I just meant that his Polyend Tracker vid introduced me to granular synthesis :) Cycles organizes audio bits in a very similar way visually, so seeing him break it down helped me understand what I was doing.
"Just standard orchestra sounds" is like the producer version of "I'm an accountant"
When I hear your music it reminds of the scraping of a tree branch across a window in a storm, and in the background I can faintly hear my fat cat getting stuck in the cat door and asking for help. very peaceful.
same
This is insane. I also love the atmosphere an orchestra warming up creates. So lovely, pure and simple.
Let's have a nice time - Mission Accomplished 🖤
Awesome and inspiring video, as usual. The sounds you got from the Slate + Ash vsts are amazing!
Truly wonderful dude. The thing I have always cherished about you and your work/channel is that even if I think I know how to use a piece of gear or software, I nearly always watch something in your video that makes me want to RUN back to it and be like "ooooohhhhh!!! that's new!" So. Thank you. Thank you very much as always. Your friend, TJ
Wow, that Slate+Ash stuff looks (and sounds) super cool.
Lovely video!
thank you for putting soooo much time into these
Another train full of sound. Thanks for the delivery.
Love the Loupé part, what GREAT device, thanks for sharing
the quality of your videos has not only remained consistent over the years - but continues to grow and improve endlessly. these are masterful demonstrations unrivaled by any other channel/person imho. please keep making these forever thank u love u
you make my life so much better man; thank you.
Your videos are both inspiring and therapeutic.
Thank you for the beautiful content as always 🙏🏻
At about 6:15 or so, you start really jamming. Very nice little loop. Keep doing these videos. They are inspiring and informative.
totally amazing video, really inspired by your work
Superbly lush Climaxing textures
i watch and listen with pure wonderment
goddamnit the whole video sounds amazing
I also have all three Slate + Ash synths, and they are all joyous pleasures to explore and create in. For reveling in sliding, shifting textural changes, there is nothing like them. They (particularly Cycles and Landforms) have changed the kind of music I like to make.
I have 16n envy, though. Mmmmmm, pretty faders...
The digitakt section reminded me of the sounds The Books. Delightful
huge postal service vibes from the s+a demo!
I love this channel.
Mmmmm I can only understate how good this is
Beautiful
Can I just say how nice it is that you disclosed your relationship to the companies at the beginning of the video? Other channels should take note.
Love love love this
I wish I could give this video a like every time I come back to it haha
Most excellent!
Knobs = breath of fresh air
So how are you micing the guitar into the Digitakt? Does that need to go thru a preamp? I've used my Iridium line level output or like OP-1 output into Digitakt, but never anything mic level. Obviously I could google a bit, but just curious what your setup was for the video. Sounds great!
what is this, some sort of Loupé fiasco
I will never not like sampling montages.
Lovely
It’s a good a show 👌🏻
Loupe was rad. As a blooper Kickstarter backer/owner, It would be cool to see a blooper 2.0 in the automatone format with longer loop lengths :)
That would be the sickest thing ever
This makes me want a digitakt
yay! today is a good day
heyo, thanks for awesome content as always ! where polyend tracker would stand in this ? and would it be useful for such sampling exploration?
those plugins
wunderbar!
I'm digging the new format, mmmmm-hmmm.
I’m curious about that amp you didn’t use this time. It’s really pretty. Homebuild, rebuild or repurpose? Doesn’t look off the shelf.
I wonder how long it takes to edit a video like this. It looks simple and natural, but I'm sure it's quite a lot of work.
More Digitakt please :)
Luv u
"Digitakt MK2" - with stereo-sample support and SD-Card Slot for mostly unlimited sample-pool and sample-streaming would be my perfect sampling-machine.
digitakt came out three (four?) years ago.. i wouldn't hold my breath
I need sample chopping, and song mode first.
Sounds a lot like an Octatrack :)
This reminds me of Múm
I need to learn more about sampling, but I do see a Ted Greene book up there!
Can what you did on Digitakt be done on Octatrack? Also, how do I use my Octatrack?
Google
For the most part, anything you can do on the Digitakt you can do more powerfully in Octatrack. The downside is that the octatrack manual must be read, because many of its basic functions are not readily apparent.
when talking about the samplers you said; deeper, cheaper, more immediate. What exactly makes the teenage engineering OP1 more immediate?
Its one I dont have, but was thinking about
The OP-1 has a built-in mic & radio, and a faster and simpler workflow overall. But it also does less, as a sampler.
LOL, Mickey Baker Jazz Guitar Method
Strawberry lemonade
Do you have demoed Free the tone Motion loop?
i literally have those same 4 and only 4 kontakt libraries and its tripping me out
10:37 How to turn classical music into experimental metal music.
Trying to figure out if your foot is on the desk or your OP-1 is on the floor :-/
AurUs ;)
Yep faster than splicing tape.
I exist
Prove it 🥸
I disagree tbh
And you are loved!
has knobs not heard of monome norns? why are the last two options necessary when you can get much more powerful and more flexible and diverse options with norns scripts for free
8:00
I’ve been listening all day. Wish this was a full song!
what is the advantage of those shitty brushed aluminum knobs on the loupe? have you ever accidentally banged or scratched your fingernail on the top of one of those? its a fucking nightmare. who ever asked for those things
