I have no idea… I wish he would have done step by step showing us and we could have done it along with him… so I'm not going to see it this year. I pray on here for the next one!!! Good luck hope to see you here in 20 years❤
Thank you 😊 me and my family will definitely be making this amazing easy way to make this solar glasses🤗may you and your family enjoy this special and amazing moment much love you you all ❤
I've heard of people using 3x5 cards or manila folders in a pinch. my understanding is it might not work quite as well, but should do the trick. Maybe try a few hole sizes on different mediums. My understanding is the thinner the material the better, but it must be opaque of course. You also want to be able to create a hole with clean edges.
P.S. you can test by looking at the sun through it before the eclipse -- you don't have to wait until the eclipse to find out what you used doesn't work well
According to what I've just learned by watching other videos and people's comments, if a small hole is poked directly into the cardboard (instead of using foil), the sun's image in the box may have fuzzy edges.(That's what I did instead of the foil) So if you don't have foil, try just poking a clean hole into the box... Or maybe use something else like black paper, dark duct tape, dark thin plastic, thin piece of metal with a hole drilled in it, etc.
@@MS-ld1xj Yup... that's what I'm trying out right now. 🥰 Seems to work OK. I made sure the hole has clean edges (I'm using a reg Amazon cardboard box).
What's the purpose of the aluminum foil? Can't you just put a small hole in the cardboard instead? I see everyone using the foil, but nobody explains why to use it.🤔
I THINK foil works well because it's very thin, but opaque. So the thickness of the cardboard will affect the image that you see and you will have a harder time getting clean edges around the hole which will make a "fuzzy" appearance to the image that you see inside. I'm not sure about all that, just my assumptions.
@@MS-ld1xj That makes sense. I did find another video (after watching yours) and a commenter said the same thing... cardboard hole could be fuzzy on the edges. I had thought it might be due to the reflective qualities of the foil, but I guess not. 😊
viewing through a normal camera lense, such as a cell phone camera, is not safe either, you need something to filter the light, normal camera lenses do not do that.
Wish you would have done a step by step 😢. I’m a visual learner 😂
Same here

Thanks for posting this video! I will use our cereal boxes in the cupboard- don't have to eat as my kids can do this for me!!!!!
Luckily, here in Montreal we are on the path and will see the eclipse clearly and we are expecting a sunny day.
Excellent! I saw totality in 2017 and it was spectacular!!!
I better check the weather report for Victoria, BC 😮
I'm in Newfoundland and right on the path to see it "best in Canada" so they are saying. Can't wait!!!!!
Fu
Mama always told me not to look into the eyes of the sun. But mama that's where the fun is.
Thanks! I forgot to get a pair of glassed and needed a way to view it!
I love DIY things. Idk I’m scared of the eclipse idk if I want to look up with anything 😂
It’s just science!
Nice guy, nice presentation thanks for sharing…. Eat an entire box of cereal was funny 😁
free speech: that is such a cute horse behind you: so obedient and sweet
Yes, that is a gorgeous horse.
I did it and it works thank you
Awesome! Enjoy! Eclipse starts where I’m at in 45 minutes!
That's looking at the shadow of the eclipse. But thank you.
can you use photo printing paper instead of regular printer paper inside the box?
I think so, as long as it is white or even light colored.
@@WhistleThicket Yay! I just want to test it to see if I get a better reflection with the glossy.
But you didn't have to eat the entire box.. the cereal is in a bag 😂
He knows that, he was just trying to be funny lol
I can't eat an entire box of cereal though its too much..
😂 take the bag out and make sure it stays sealed
Can you use another material other than aluminum since I don’t have any 😩

Can you use a smaller box? I have an instant oatmeal packet box.
I think so, but probably have to turn the box sideways to use it.
Small one works the same
Eat all the cereal...lol😊
Pick a good one!
Can I wear a welders helmet?
You can actually
We've done it before and it works

It cooks the cardboard

@@dawneandjohn the more you learn 🙌
So he didn't show us, he only told us how he did it. 😢
I agree I would've enjoyed a step by step video. Hopefully we can figure it out ❤
Can it be any type of box?
Sure. As long as it is completely enclosed. Shoe boxes are an option!
Wouldn't it make more sense to turn your front camera on and just watch it with your back facing it
No, you wouldn’t really see the shadow, sun is too bright.
Also I heard it damaged the lense of your camera
viewing through a normal camera lense, such as a cell phone camera, is not safe either, you need something to filter the light, normal camera lenses do not do that.
Huh??? 🤔
