Im about 8.5 minutes in to this and the first time ive seen anything on chicken color genetics. From your description so far, it looks like Splash is an incomplete dominate trait and blue is the marker for offspring that are heterozygous for the splash gene, making black the default and dominant. The splash carrying 2 copies of the gene, pass along a guaranteed one copy to each offspring resulting in all heterozygous for splash, aka blue as they are all carriers. Good info, this is exactly what I was hoping to get from it.
I'm going to start actively looking for a splash roo or a few slash hens. Already have the black coppers on order. 100% blue offspring sounds like money in the bank lol. Chicken genetics are so fascinating 👍✌️🙏
Is this just for pure colors? I have a splash Ameracuana rooster, and EE hens, from what Ive gathered asking around they are dominate black with colors like copper, white etc, and said the chicks hatched from them are “leaky blue” I have one that is black on top, yellowish on bottom, and one that is much lighter on top, that one I can agree would be blue. But the darker one being black confuses me.
What's the difference in the self blue or lavender ameracuanas? How do they breed true blues? I know there are some feather issues with this line also. How can it be corrected without messing with the true genetics? Still learning and hoping to figure it out before my chicks start laying. 🙏
That is way beyond my pay grade lol. I wish I could help, but I can’t. The best advice I can give you is research it online to see if you can find some information. The group chat in backyard chickens is a great resource from the experts. Hope this helps! Sorry I can’t!
I have no clue on that one. Anytime you mix anything outside of blue, black, and splash, you start getting mixes. I would say orange colored with some sort of broken lacing.
You would get a hybrid mix of blue and gold. Some people breed back and forth until they achieve blue laced golds. Google the images of that breed so you can get a general idea.
I have an Easter egger rooster that is very colorful: yellow neck, red wings, black iridescent tail but a blue chest and butt. Is there a way to tell what his base is?
I can’t help you on this one. I know if he has muffs, he has Ameraucana in his bloodline more than likely if he’s an Easter Egger. That would be good for carrying the blue egg laying gene. Easter Eggers are beautiful!
The hatch was great! We ended up with more roosters than hens, but all are either blue, black, or splash. Should start laying in October-November. We got our first Olive Egger egg this week, so we will be doing a video on the genetics of those next since we know it works. 👍

If you can’t get a splash roo, look for a blue roo and you’ll get 50% blue and 50% splash offspring. We love our splashes! Everyone goes crazy for blue or splash. French black copper Marans are SO worth it! We love them! 😁
Thank you for sharing this! I've got blue, black and splash and just getting started on my whole breeding journey, so this helped so much!
You’re so very welcome! Happy hatching!😊

What would a Buff Orpington rooster, and a Blue Red Laced Wyandotte make?
I have no clue on that one. Anytime you mix anything outside of blue, black, and splash, you start getting mixes. I would say orange colored with some sort of broken lacing.
What if you cross Blue rooster on silver and gold hens?
What happens if you cross a Golden Wyandotte with a Blue Wyandotte?

@@harmonhomestead7434 he does have muffs! Thanks for the reply :)
@nikkireigns awesome! You should get some beautiful chicks from him if you hatch. You’re welcome!
How did the hatch turn out with your BBS hatching eggs in your incubator?
