This has always been my favorite Linkin Park song. This entire album revolves around mental issues or internal struggles, and as I get older, I appreciate the lyrics more. I've suffered with crippling anxiety and depression since I was a teenager. I'm about to turn 39. It's still one of the best songs that describes that feeling of your own brain telling you that you're not good enough. Having a brain that wants to die, trapped in a body that wants to live.
Wait more 5 years and you will experience the meaning of the song. All of us when we were at teenage enjoy this song but when we reached 20 we feeled it.
I'm 40 years old now from Indonesia, heavily depressed, anxiety, & suicidal. I admit that when I was young, I never really liked Linkin Park. But now, as my life keep failing into crumbles, I've started to deeply appreciate all their songs (music & the lyrics especially). I never knew that Chester Bennington have actually been singing about depression (& perhaps many other mental illness, pain, & struggles). Their 'dark' lyrics is what actually makes me deeply relate now every time I listen to their songs.
After Chester’s passing these lyrics hit me harder and I find myself tearing up to these songs. “The sun goes down.. I feel the light betray me” .. never understood now I do .
Bring me back so much memories from my childhood, i used to listen Linkin Park everytime i feel bad till now. I can't believe Chester is dead... such a sad year. RIP from France..
I remember being a youtube doing speed drawings. 2007 and we would use these songs, back when copyright wasn't shoved down our throats. the memories of drawing and rock music in the background
It's not necessarily about any of those things. It might just be referring to the painful realization that you are not what you thought you were with another person.
+o trixotos mou kolos Clearly meant they were waiting for track 2 of the album to start because like me they used to play the album over and over again and you memorize the track order and get ready for the next song before the current one has completely finished.
"The sun goes down, I feel the light betrays me." Reminds me of the feeling of hyperventilation, because there's a point when all your muscles tightens hard, and you feel like little ants are crawling under your skin, and the next thing you know is that you are fainting and everything is going black. I hear this song whenever I feel to bad, 'cause I don't wanna feel like darkness is going to claim me again. Thank you Chester, you are still helping me, even if now you just gives concerts in heaven.
As someone with bipolar disorder, sometimes the paranoia I have is really frightening. I once became convinced someone was following me. It was frightening how I lost track of my emotions. I am not overly paranoid, but let me tell you, paranoia is not fun.
Rip Chester Bennington. My first band that really motivated me and got me into rock. You will always be remembered. I had your first album on a casset man when I was just a kid.
I was feeding into my behavior for 5 years thinking it was smart and my mind was maturing. I was 17 when these feelings started occurring, I’m 22 and I learned that this isn’t how I’m supposed to feel. Idk how I’m able to be a dad like this but I’m trying to be better for my family. God is with me, I don’t need these feelings. I won’t give into them. Thank you linkin park for being there since I could even remember music.
For me it's impossible to have a quick answer, but with a gun to my head, this is their flagship song for me and I hope my kids appreciate it like I appreciated my previous generations' songs
This is the first song I listened to from LINKIN PARK when I was 12/13 back in 2014. Not knowing the band at all until I found some of the songs my father listens to 😅 and a friend of mine recommended me a song from them and I never thought to listen to more of their music 😂 until this ❤
chester, chris, and kurt all died because they no longer wanted to be part of a system that uses and abuses children. They wanted out. They got killed.
Many people nowadays claiming that they have anxiety & depression and they think that this thing as simple a normal flu or fever, or just saying it for fun. One thing they don’t know is that the fact people with A&D have another ‘person’ inside their head saying things over again and again without their own will. Convincing, confusing, overanalysing, & tiring. With abnormal heartbeats, emotionally numb, over thinking, anger, sadness & guilty. It happens 24/7 even when they sleep. Once you get A&D it affecting you for a long period of time and for many, for their whole lifetimes. “Snap it out” that’s what normal people say, at least they think it’s just simple as that. Once you get A&D it is like a wound that keeps bleeding, you can’t snap it out just like that, you need time to train your brain back to normal, but that never be so easy. We have intellects and we learn from the past, that’s how our brains work, in order to prevent/adapt challenges in our lives from past experiences. (Kind of too far to relate but this could make you understand) Imagine this, you have a fever because your antibody tries to defend yourself from viruses/bacterias, but if the viruses are too strong, then your body will increase its defence mechanism by increasing your body temperature to stop the viruses because each type of viruses die at certain temperature (too long too explain but this has relation with hypothalamus, antibody & etc) the stronger the viruses, the stronger & warmer your body will response to fight it until your body killing itself caused by the over heating. Now let’s relate with A&D (keep in mind that fever and A&D are different, this just an analogy to make you understand). By having A&D, your brain tries to defend itself abnormally or way too much because of the past experience resulting a chronic mental health problems. People with A&D are not weak, they had really bad experience in the past and their brains trying to avoid that from happening again in the future, but at the same time hurting them. They never chose this to happen, which most of us will never understand. Consider yourself lucky and never brag about “you don’t have A&D and feel stronger than people with A&D” because you are just a thin piece of thread that will break in certain conditions & time, without even realising it. Once A&D hits you, your life turns 360 degree. At that time, you try to forget, snap it out, or do anything to fight back but your brain won’t allow you because that’s how human brains defence mechanism work. Even your daily life after that will be affected by the way your brain processing things. Future bad experiences will make your A&D much worst, even if just a small ones, depend on what triggered your A&D at first from the past. You need to try to understand, train, and make a routine for your brain to try another ways of thinking and this require a long period of time. One of the challenges is sometimes you can control your brain by thinking differently but most of the times it just automatically processing things the opposite way of what you wanted it to be. It sounds like breathing, you can control the way you breathe but most of the times your brain automatically controlling it without your intention. Even in some cases, when patients with A&D totally lost their memories or after being in coma for a long period of time and forgot most of their past experiences, (caused by accidents or any events that made them lost their memories), they still have A&D symptoms without their memories of the past. Looks like their brains used to process things same as the way before.

Paranoia's all I got left
I don't know what stressed me first
Or how the pressure was fed
But I know just what it feels like
To have a voice in the back of my head
Like a face that I hold inside
A face that awakes when I close my eyes
A face watches every time I lie
A face that laughs every time I fall
(And watches everything)
So I know that when it's time to sink or swim
That the face inside is here in me
Right underneath my skin
It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back
It's like a whirlwind inside of my head
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin
I know I've got a face in me
Points out all my mistakes to me
You've got a face on the inside too
And your paranoia's probably worse
I don't know what set me off first
But I know what I can't stand
Everybody acts like the fact of the matter is
I can't add up to what you can
But everybody has a face that they hold inside
A face that awakes when I close my eyes
A face watches every time they lie
A face that laughs every time they fall
(And watches everything)
So you know that when it's time to sink or swim
That the face inside is watchin' you too
Right inside your skin
It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back

It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin
The face inside is right beneath your skin
The face inside is right beneath your skin
The face inside is right beneath your skin
The sun goes down
I feel the light betray me
The sun goes down
I feel the light betray me
It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back
It's like a whirlwind inside of my head
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like the face inside is right beneath the skin
It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back
It's like a whirlwind inside of my head
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin

One of my favourite songs😪 RIP Chester
definitivamente es el mejor álbum de Linkin
My first LP song who touch my soul and I told everyone this band will touch the world very soon,
Chester gone to soon
Their best album, in my opinion
My Teenage Years Brings Back Total Nostalgia 💯💯
Linkin parks music is the best, I could listen to it all day.
I don't listen this with my ears, i listen this with my heart and my soul.
I was growing up with LP, nowadays I feel like I miss Chester and his voice so much, so I keep playing all LP'S album. Those lyrics is everything.
Merry Christmas best song to listen too
