I'm in the market for a new gaming laptop, and i gotta say this is the MOST FRUSTRATING thing ever! 😖 Every laptop I've seen is sacrificing one thing or another 😭
Wait for a few more months man, asus with the QC issues, lenovo with the downgrades, msi being outrageously expensive and arse value, this market is fucked up rn, wait for a few months or so
The main culprit is Nvidia as always. Those ridiculous GPU prices are making laptop manufacturers either cut corners or increase the price. Big shame too, since gaming laptops were actually becoming viable compared to a desktop.
I just ordered this with 4080. I watched a ton of your videos. It's crazy, I feel like every laptop has something missing that the other picks up. But it seems, despite the things that were removed, is that this one is highly regarded. I also used your gaming laptop deals to get it for 2k at BH Photo! Which was far less than other places like best buy, which honestly surprised me. Thanks for all the content. My biggest focus is getting a laptop that can run games at medium settings and with quiet fans. I play downstairs on the couch while my partner watches tv, so having a quiet laptop that can still game is hugely, hugely, HUGELY important to me. Here's to hoping to sounds good.
I just ordered this laptop with the RTX 4080, same laptop from B+H for $2k. Been musing about a laptop for around a year to travel game with while traveling away from home. It can get just mind numbing looking at so many laptops that are nice in some areas and disappointing in others. But I ordered this yesterday and will get it on Monday. I’ll just be adding the other SSD myself when I get it.
I’m also debating whether to order it from HB or no. Their return policy is quite bad regarding the laptops. And I want it shipped in the EU. Are you from US guys?
Your reviews are so in-depth. I didn’t know the Lenovo software was so feature rich, it’s actually a huge selling point that would get little mention elsewhere.
@@djdelarosa25 Anything is better than the MSI support 😂😂. Those guys even let bots wins theirs events in "msi rewards". This event: "hop to it" me and some friends participate just for fun. But most funny it was see the winners 😂(you can access the page even now and see). But their support is like: Client: my pc lost a the "A" key. Sup: okay, can you send the pc for checking? Client: okay, sure. 4 months after: Client: where is my pc. Sup: What pc? 😶.
The design looks much less premium and sleek compared to last year, but the price is now actually very compelling compared to other brands. I suppose Lenovo focuses on making it the fastest bang for buck, that 80W CPU & 175W GPU under full load is very impressive for a 16" form factor
Agree. I had both for about a month; 10-40% faster at same or lower price. 3-5 degree cooler. Better screen. I'll take all that in exchange for loss of an all metal chasis, fingerprint, and a couple ports. Its a mustang, not a bmw. Nicities are gone but the internals are amazing. Its just a branding mistake to call it pro.
Aren't we jumping the gun haven't seen any models release yet. Was stating 4,000 + I see closer to release dates the laptops are falling back to mid to high 2,000+. I am hoping the market drops down to a normal price. Otherwise I will be going on vacation and wait till next years models.
Please be aware, the mini LED option mentioned in the review does not seem to exist. You can only get this laptop with an IPS panel, which is major bummer.
With your guidance, I decided to buy this laptop. Moreover, I bought it from the mentioned website, and it was at a very affordable price. I see this model as a model whose design has been reduced in order to have high hardware. I don't regret to buy at all. Thanks for your effort...
How do you like it so far? Does it get hot and frames drop after a few hours of gaming? Want to get a gaming laptop but the Alienware M17 I had in the past would get really hot in like an hour and frames would drop considerably.
@@juicyjey1334 I got this model with 4090 and it runs really well. That being said, CPU temps are on the high side, but you should be able to run at a combined 230 W between CPU and GPU without thermal throttling. My only regret is that I didn't get the AMD model, because the CPU efficiency would be so nice. Some games like BF 2042 I need to put the CPU wattage up to 135 W just to get a playable experience, leaving little power left for the GPU. But no, temperatures stay constant and the laptop doesn't lose performance no matter how long you game for. Just make sure to keep the GPU + CPU wattage at 230 W or less or your battery will drain to 0% even while plugged in.
@@Juanparomaruk Yes, it's arguably the best gaming laptop money can buy. I have it and am very happy with it. My only complaint is that the temperatures aren't that great, probably because of the vapor chamber.
Thanks testing the HDMI for true 2.1 support! I hope this can be done in all future reviews as I often hook up to my LG C2 and my L7 2021 only does 8bit since it has pseudo hdmi 2.1.
They obviously took a step backwards in terms of build quality and material usage, but otherwise it looks like an excellent laptop. Too bad the prices are still ridiculously high this year. I envy those who can afford these machines.
@@radlink14 I would be happy with the current US prices, to be honest. However, where I live (Hungary), laptops cost more than 1.5x the USD price. Add to this the average wage here is only a fraction of that in the US and the laptops become all but unreachable.
I just bought one of these and its fantastic. Its a 4090 model for 2799 at Microcenter (it had a 500 discount). Any other 4090 laptop from MSI or Asus was $700 more. The only thing I was worried about was the display being only IPS rather than mini led, but its the best IPS display I've ever seen. No backlight bleed, no IPS glow, 240 htrz, near 500 nits, and it looks spectacular. Color gambit may be a bit low so for photo editing maybe not so good, but for gaming its just fine. I'm happy to trade the features Lenovo removed to have such a well priced laptop.
they have it at B&H currently priced at $2500, and the 4080 at $2000. Should i hop on this deal and just get it? Been holding back because of all the bad reviews pertaining to the battery life@@CrewFroebel
Honestly I bought this one with the 4090 (for 16 vram) as my first gaming laptop, and first introduction to pc gaming. I am used to console quality, so all the downgrades aren’t much of a impact for me. The only thing I think I would want, from the last year’s model, are the vents they removed. It all sounds nitpicky to me, or maybe I’m part of the problem with my purchase, but again i am coming from consoles. anything is an upgrade for me. Lol
The model you tested is available in the US from MicroCenter for $2649 on sale, which is a fair price considering the 32 GB of RAM and 2 TB of storage. This laptop should have been called the Legion 5 Pro+ or something similar, with the 7 moniker reserved for the flagship line. Though as has been rumored, this leaves room for a Legion 9, which would have all the content that was cut here. We'll just have to wait and see.
yeah, the laptop itself doesn't seem to be a bad deal given the specs and performance. Quality and feature-wise though, it's definitely closer to the 5 pro than the 7.
Considering the new body has design elements from Legion Slim 7 Gen 7, it's probably that upcoming Slim series is the highest Pro standard. Slim 7 really was the best looking and highly loved by many reviewers, as it was quiet and cool to touch and 1000€ cheaper.
I think last year's Legion 7 chassis is better than the new one except lid. It's also bad that they removed the lighting on the ports on the back, which I can't understand. I really like those lights.
@@ayaan9646 Nah, Legion users buying this device for power, not longer battery hours. Also I don't think that those type of lightnings affects the battery too much. Most of the users are ready to sacrife about 30 minutes battery life for port lightnings. I saw too many comments like that.
I purchased this about two weeks ago and am in love! The downsides you presented don’t bother me at all. I don’t use the touch pad, and I’m near 50…so, I don’t need 14000 leds to prove my gaming prowess. Thanks for the great review.
Very happy with mine, got this few days ago and it's been so good, massive upgrade from the Asus TUF FX505 with GTX 1060 6gb lol and only paid around 1600€ after some tax sales.
I think this is one of the better priced 2023 laptops with the high end 4000 series GPUs. FYI I've been able to get up to 30K in Cinebench on the Blade 18 with CPU overclocking and boost mode turned on (though this was not in a sustained test).
Woah is anyone else noticing that Cinebench score drop-off in balance and quiet power modes?? That is a big decrease. Even the 5i is scoring much higher in these modes. This has HUGE drawbacks because if you plan on using the 7i without the AC brick and on USB C, which locks you into balance or quiet power modes, you're going to be getting awful performance from the CPU. I can't believe no one else has pointed this out.
While the build quality is slightly diminished compared to last year, when it comes to performance there isn't a better bang for your buck this year than the Legion. To be honest I'd never use the fingerprint scanner and I almost never use a trackpad anyway so those changes don't really bother me. Additionally it seems like the only laptop this year so far without widespread quality control issues. For these reasons I decided to go with it, and I'm very happy with my decision.
Having had both, I very much disagree about the build quality diminishing. Quality of life/nice to have features? Sure, but build quality? This thing flat out feels nicer and sturdier. The gen 7 did look more sleek though.
I agree. And it would also be interesting because you would have the comparison between 4080 and 4090 on two IDENTICAL laptops for everything else (maybe I'm wrong, but I haven't seen any reviews that have done this on other 4080/4090 laptops).
I'm not sure. Normally, when we do a full review like this we only ever get one configuration, so we make do with what we've got. If I recall, my Lenovo contact said they were going to send another config later, but not sure if that's still happening. I was more interested in getting a 7945HX version with same GPU so I could fairly compare Intel and AMD. If we get a 4090 one it wouldn't be enough of a difference to justify a dedicated review, but we'd probably test it and include the data in the comparison graphs.
@@colombinostilita4060 Don't worry, I've already got two identical laptops with two full powered 4080 and 4090s :) testing them now for a dedicated video.
@@JarrodsTech Great! You are THE BEST, as usual! 👍 I have been anxiously waiting for your review of the Pro 7i, to decide whether or not to buy it and which version! With a "double review" I will be ... doubly happy! 😄 Of course, even just an integration of the current 4080 review would be good enough. Keep up the great work!
@@JarrodsTech Thanks for the response. Can totally understand not giving a dedicated video to the 4090 version. I'm mainly interested to see how the 7i compares to the other much more expensive 4090s you've tested so far. Seems like it could beat them from the 4080's performance at least. Pretty close to getting a 4090 7i and I think they're out in the UK on the 31st. Bit concerned about the battery performance when gaming though but I guess that's tweakable. Cheers again.
I could accept all the other features dropped, but the keyboard deck being plastic is seriously petty on their part. I almost pulled the trigger on this a few months ago. Glad I didn’t.
@@heroofharo my friend with a gaming laptop (dell g5, gtx 1060) has a very worn out track-pad. part of the reason I bought my 2021 legion 7i was for the glass trackpad
after seeing this review, now i'am hyped for Lenovo Legion Pro 5i 4060 and 4070 since that custom max setting mode might give these two cards an edge over other PCs with the same cards
I'm mostly a desktop user, but like to have a decent laptop around for gaming in the living room as well as having portability for traveling. Tried 4 different laptops in under a month, but finally settled on one of these. Got it used for the equivalent of about $2000 (4080, 13900HX, 32GB RAM). The ability to fine tune a custom fan / performance profile is so good, I never want to have a gaming laptop without it again. If Lenovo keeps having this on their Legions, I will most likely keep buying them.
Don’t care about RGB and fingerprint scanner. The only things I really miss from last year’s model are the brushed aluminium chassis and the glass trackpad.
I'm waiting AMD Zen 4 Framework laptop, but the first batch has been sold out, pre order waiting timeline is allready in the end of the year. You don't see AMD ultrabook with 64GB RAM, like never.
Most of the removed features are gimmicks and all except the 2.5Gb ethernet are not performance related. And what's with the orientation of ethernet jack being wrong? Bottom row of any rack mount switch have "wrong" orientation of ethernet jack. For those of us who couldn't care less about RGB everywhere, this laptop is a good candidate.
I'm hoping they come out with a slim 7 with the 7940hs + a low wattage 4060. 6lbs is just too much for a laptop for me and this doesn't look as nice as last gen (and I'm really only interested in the lower wattage AMD HS chips anyways).
Slim 7 Zen 4 + 4060 would be my dream come true, but it will be out most likely September or even later (considering all the Zen 4 news from different laptop brands).
I'm sure they will do that, and pull some boneheaded moves and gimp it as usual. Probably things like no miniLED screen option, no fingerprint reader, worse ports than last year, plastic touchpad, etc. They will find ways!
just bought the exact one that is here in the video .... i use it with the external 32 inch monitor .... windows 11 was giving me problems with nvidia drivers and the monitor. took the windows 11 down , installed win 10 = 0 problems after that ... works even better on win 10 imho. btw for those that want to downgrade to win 10 from 11 , there are no isues with drivers or E cores not visible ... its just zero problems at all. i had 3 laptops on my list that i wanted to buy Alienware m16 , Acer Helios 16 and L7P after reading lost of info about the laptops i bought L7P, and i can say i dont regret a second... its a problem free laptop and sure its a beast , with an exrternal monitor/ mouse and keypad , its a really good replacement to a tower PC.
Jarrod! Can you also add whether the fans can be removed without taking out the heatsink or not in the upcoming reviews? It is very important for the people that are living in the hot areas because they have to clean the heatsink often!
@@zz6358 I think all generations of Legion 7 need heatsink removal to remove the fans. This is a nightmare for me. This always limits me from turning on the performance mode.
don't buy a high performance gaming laptop when you live in a hot country buy something like a 3060 or maybe the 3070 with the r9 or r7 cpus they are always the coolest in premium laptops and they'll hit 120/144/165 fps in like every single game wich uses the max refresh rate of their screens with no lose smooth gaming experience
Not sure how to test that unless I try to take it apart? I definitely do not plan on removing coolers and repasting borrowed samples that get sent onto other people to test. I suppose if the fan only can be removed I shouldn't need to do that. Companies like Lenovo provide a LOT of detailed info on their site, so you can easily see if they allow it by checking there, but unfortunately most companies don't copy them.
@@JarrodsTech You don't need to remove the heatsink. If you can remove the fans without touching the heatsink, you can include that info in your reviews too!! That will be very awesome! No one covers this info!
i love that they added the costum fan control, however i really hope that this will be added on older models like the 2022 ones (got 7i 2022 a few months ago :/ )
Seeing that this laptop can do 82W on CPU and 175W on GPU in combined workload without thermal throttling (which is just bonkers), i really think that Nvidia can now increase the GPU power limit to 200W especially for the RTX XX90 as there is no real benefit going from XX80 to XX90 with the same power limit and the fact that CPU doesn't need 82W while gaming without needing a higher watt charger.
Sure Nvidia can now increase the power limit, but instead they'll do it next year calling it 4090 Ti and charging a few hundreds $$ more. I wish OC was still a thing like in the old days, so people could just increase power and clocks themselves.
Great and thorough review here man and I love all the timestamps thanks for that. I'm mainly interested in this for motion design/3D and also video/photo work actually and even though it's still $3600 CAD for the 4080 i9 I feel it's too much for any laptop these days. Any thoughts on this for that type of work? I've considered Dell G15 also with i9 12 gen but with 3070Ti as it's just under $2000. Would you say that price jump is worth it or should I save some money and go for the Dell? Thinking also future proof probably 5 year max
Considering the price, I'm not upset about the removed features even with the rear lighting icons since I do have good memory. I have a couple questions. One, doesn't the AI in this thing actually do something now like focus system resources on a game, disable the trackpad and ensure online games get prioirity in network bandwitdht? And two, is there a shortcut to max out the fans or do you have to go to Vantage every single time you want to do that? If the answer to my first question is yes, I'm really gonna try to get this one. I might even go for the shitty 4070 since I'm upgrading from a 1060. With the performance gain from last gen's hardware, I'm amazed that this year's Legion 7 are cheaper than last year's. If removing features means it won't cost half your body, that sounds pretty good to me. The experience didn't get any worse anyway
Gen 8 is a better chassis despite losing some luxury/ quality of life features imo, and I'll die on that hill. If they offered a gen 8 classic for example, that was gen 7 chassis, with gen 8 hardware upgrades, and we got to choose between the current 8 and the gen 8 "classic", I would go with the current gen 8. The cooling alone is a good enough reason. I don't mean the performance that the cooling provides, I mean like the quality of life upgrade the better cooling provides. My 12800HX/3070 Ti was uncomfortably warm at idle and just watching youtube videos. The vent corners were actually dangerously hot during a gaming session. With gen 8 I can load up the full 235w load and the only part that gets a little bit warm is directly under the screen {which I don't touch during normal use}, and even then, it's still perfectly comfortable/safe. It's more rigid, I like the finish better, the wrist rest doesn't dig into my wrist like gen 7 did, the screen is better, the jump to 240hz is very welcome to me for competitive games, as mentioned, it's significantly cooler, the hinges are sturdier, the list goes on and on. A finger print sensor and some I/O lighting is a small price to pay for the quality of life upgrades, the performance jump is just a bonus.
Will you be making a video on the Framework 16 when it releases or when they send one to you? It has a replaceable dGPU and so much more expansion than the 13, and I would love to see you test it.
@JarrodsTech I appreciate your videos man, you review each device so thoroughly so I know which one will suit my wants/needs. I just ordered a Legion Pro 7i and can’t wait for it to arrive! This will be my 3rd gaming laptop. The decision in the laptops I’ve purchased have all been helped by you thanks to your reviews. Keep up the good work bro!

Pro? YES! I don't care about fingerprint scanner (maybe a little, but have done fine without one), power button lighting, rear port lighting, RGB (hate it anyway), upside down RJ-45, WASD pressure sensitive keys (I mostly use a controller and wouldn't that interfere with normal touch typing?). The only thing that I would care about is the 2.5Gb reduced to 1Gb but honestly, I only use Wi-Fi. I care a tiny bit about weight but the damn thing is so heavy anyway. ...and I don't know how much I care about plastic touch pad v glass. None of these things is worth paying an extra nickel.
Hi Jarrod! It would be awesome to see a comparison of the g strix series vs scar strix series I think many people would like how these two compares performance wise and other features as well. Can’t thank you enough for your content!!
Anyone looking b&h has this beast for 2099 atm. You can pricematch most places I used microcenter. It's amazing 100+fps min maxsettings on everything even cyberpunk.
CPU overclock option worked for me. It bumped the boost clocks 100 MHz. Not exactly groundbreaking 😂. That said, you CAN manually tune the clocks - it's basically a simplified XTU interface, but not really worth doing.
Just bought this today (black friday) thanks to your website that shows deals on laptops... What a snag... $1899 USD for this machine. Thank you for convincing me to get this!

Works perfectly now. The build quality is amazing, I've been travelling with it and it's solid as a rock. Runs all my games silently at 60+ FPS in Quiet mode too, which is a huge bonus. I love it.
Finally! JarrodsTech has come back… to… Legion! Heh. Great video as always! Thanks. Love Legions and the performance is insane for the size and cost! 32gb 5600 is a selling point right there. Most of the other 13th gen laptops have 16gb 4800 🤮 I don’t care about the creature comforts lost this year, compared to last year, because I use it as a desktop replacement AND I’m sure it kept the price down. I just want the power and portability. 😉

Anyone's got any idea why 1% lows for 4000 series cards is so low? At first I thought it was just because of the bad memory bus for 4060 and 4070 but 4080 seems to have the same problem? I just wonder if it is something that could be fixed in the future if I end up going for a next gen laptop ( even if I doubt, cauz prices here in Europe are crazy high )

I want to save others from this headache! my 2021 model I gave to my brother is still working perfectly without any issues though.
Hey Jarrod, are you going to review the new Lenovo LOQ series? Also, could you PLEASE do a video on the pros & cons of importing laptops over $1000 from the US? I'm always worried I'll be hit with import duties I can't afford after I've hit " Buy'. Thanks, you're awesome.
I will say, despite the "downgrades" it is such a great laptop, and it feels premium...and the sacrifices are not even that bad that you don't even know about it eventually. Also I got 2000 AUD off this laptop by using my student email
In China it's marketed as "Y/R9000P Ultimate", which is basically an upgraded version of Legion 5 Pro (Y/R9000P). Lenovo will probably come out with a real Legion 7 successor that's named as Legion Pro 9 later.
Will you be doing a review of the 2024 Pro 7i with i9 14th Gen and RTX 4090? I'm in the market now and am curious how this would differ from the 2023 model
0:31 "There is only a little bit of flex to the keyboard" This is just not true, whole keyboard just moving up and down is not a little bit. Looks like quality wise Lenovo has really plummeted down , makes me proud of my Legion 5 Pro 2021.
The removal of all the features that made 2022's Legion 7 so unique is just a dealbreaker for me. I'm so glad I bought last year's model rather than waiting for this one.
I have the 2022 Legion 7i as well. I am happy with my 2022 Legion 7i. I like how the 2023 Legion 7i has the 13900HX which gives you an extra 8 e-cores. However, what was Nvidia thinking when they decided to give the RTX 4080 mobile 12GB of VRAM? The 3080Ti mobile has 16GB of VRAM and many newer games are being bottlenecked by VRAM limitations. The 4080 mobile should not have less VRAM than the 3080TI mobile...
Lenovo removed some nice to have features like fingerprint sensor,2.5 gigabit eathernet port, removed lighting for icons for rear ports etc. Lenovo should have increased its build quality, given oled display option with high refresh rate. This year legion pro 7i laptop is really fast in performance compared to scar 18 which has i9 13950hx it performs really well.
For me, the big disappointment was when I took a look at the Legion Pro i7 gen 8 display performance test: sRGB color space 99.7% Adobe RGB profile 71.2% DCI-P3 color gamut 69.1 the lowest price on the market for a model with i9 and 4090 but the display is really cheap.
Hi, will you review the 4090 version? I saw it on Lenovo’s official website but not on any other shop yet. Edit: I’m asking because I really want to see the difference in performance.
I recently purchased a Lenovo Legion 7i Pro from your company, and unfortunately, after just six months of use, the motherboard unexpectedly burned out. Despite the product being under warranty, I was disheartened to find that your company refused to provide the necessary repairs. This has been a frustrating and disappointing experience, and it certainly makes me hesitant to recommend Lenovo to others. It's disheartening to encounter such issues with a product and then face resistance when seeking assistance, especially when the device is within the warranty period...I strongly advise against purchasing from Lenovo based on my negative experience!
It's just a shame that upgrading to 32gb of RAM, with NON XMP sticks, don't run at 5600mhz, they default to 4800mhz. I changed the stock memory with kingston Fury, and there is no option to change the speed =(
Sir, I really value battery life in a gaming laptop and the one I intend to buy sooner should be one of them. I have been using a 2018 Aero 15X, which was the battery king then in a portable gaming laptop chassis. You too I believe gave it a thumbs up. I would request you to suggest whether the newer Ryzen 7th Gen CPUs will release soon and if they will boast those industry leading battery stats. My activities includes light - mid gaming, Java coding and watching good quality content. Thanks!
This thing with 4090 is 2,679 USD right before Christmas using your code. Pretty good deal for a top tier gaming laptop but I bought the Slim 5 14" instead for 984 USD. Much cheaper and more portable.
I get no more than 90 mins of battery life on mine. I've tried everything, turned battery saver on, switched to iGPU-only mode, disabled the dGPU, disabled the E-cores, undervolted to -160mV. No difference. Battery falls by 1% every minute. Does anyone else have this problem?
It's my understanding the 4080 and 4090 models have Liq Metal thermal paste on the GPU as well as the CPU.🤔 I have a 4090 on pre-order so I guess I better rerun my research?
Since you are reviewing a gaming laptop you should atleast test 8 to 10 games but you only test 3 games. In your earlier videos you used to test 10 to 15 games in 1080p and 1440p and that was worth appreciation.
For review purposes I've always only had 3 games. They are used for comparison purposes so you can see how this laptop compares to others. I used to dedicated gaming testing videos but they didn't perform anywhere near as well and take far longer to make.

What is this one missing?
Hi , how is the sound after 1 year of using ?
I just ordered this laptop with the RTX 4080, same laptop from B+H for $2k. Been musing about a laptop for around a year to travel game with while traveling away from home. It can get just mind numbing looking at so many laptops that are nice in some areas and disappointing in others. But I ordered this yesterday and will get it on Monday. I’ll just be adding the other SSD myself when I get it.
I’m also debating whether to order it from HB or no. Their return policy is quite bad regarding the laptops. And I want it shipped in the EU. Are you from US guys?
@@ardentdfender4116 how are you liking it? I am looking to get the same one from B+H for 2k but want to make sure its worth it.
Your reviews are so in-depth. I didn’t know the Lenovo software was so feature rich, it’s actually a huge selling point that would get little mention elsewhere.

The design looks much less premium and sleek compared to last year, but the price is now actually very compelling compared to other brands. I suppose Lenovo focuses on making it the fastest bang for buck, that 80W CPU & 175W GPU under full load is very impressive for a 16" form factor
I hope the Legion 9 brings back the premium design and features! 😬

No worries! I've had it in all my reviews for the last 12 months and will continue into the future.

It's also available from B & H photo for the same price in the US.
@@drober8588The B&H config only has 1 TB of storage and Windows 11 Home. The MC model has 2 TB and W11 Pro.
Then what's the regular leg 7 will be like?
Considering the new body has design elements from Legion Slim 7 Gen 7, it's probably that upcoming Slim series is the highest Pro standard. Slim 7 really was the best looking and highly loved by many reviewers, as it was quiet and cool to touch and 1000€ cheaper.

I think this is one of the better priced 2023 laptops with the high end 4000 series GPUs. FYI I've been able to get up to 30K in Cinebench on the Blade 18 with CPU overclocking and boost mode turned on (though this was not in a sustained test).
I appreciate your reviews and your opinions are spot on. I appreciate honesty, especially with such expensive decisions to make.
Been using mine for a few weeks now, love it and agree with your points so far.
Still holding out hope for a Legion 9! 😬
Not yet.
@@cameronbosch1213 when will that come?
Having had both, I very much disagree about the build quality diminishing. Quality of life/nice to have features? Sure, but build quality? This thing flat out feels nicer and sturdier. The gen 7 did look more sleek though.
Will you be testing the 4090 version too?
Be interesting to see how its performance compares to the other 4090s.

Hi, I am also thinking of getting one. Are you still happy with the purchase?
Jarrod! Can you also add whether the fans can be removed without taking out the heatsink or not in the upcoming reviews?
It is very important for the people that are living in the hot areas because they have to clean the heatsink often!
Seconding this - which Legion models have had removal fans vs not out of curiousity?

I'm not sure if they will or not. It hasn't been confirmed.

No shortcut that I can find, but I've never felt the need to max the fans, I actually keep it in balanced 90% of the time.

At first I thought it was just because of the bad memory bus for 4060 and 4070 but 4080 seems to have the same problem?
I just wonder if it is something that could be fixed in the future if I end up going for a next gen laptop ( even if I doubt, cauz prices here in Europe are crazy high )
I think the 1 percent lows for the scar 18 are actually where they should be. For the rest idk.
I'd like to know too! The Razer Blade 16 has really bad 1% lows + a lot of reports of stuttering, particularly for the latest AAA titles.
Time to get a Framework laptop ma man Jarrod. Especially now that they comes with AMD and have a UPGRADABLE GAMING LAPTOP
I will get the gaming model once it's available
Jarrod what do you think of those framework laptops? Is that actually a viable thing?
The Framework Laptop 16 looks like the real deal, as they've already been able to prove themselves over 3 years.
I'm interested in taking a look at them!
after owning this laptop for 7 months there is an audio jack issue that static and interfering sounds comes out of the right side of the headphones and no regular sound comes out of it either!! I looked everywhere online but couldn't find anything buyers beware! I sent it in for repair and it returned today and Lenovo did not fix it! I want to save others from this headache! my 2021 model I gave to my brother is still working perfectly without any issues though.
I just bought the Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 7 with RTX 3080TI and i never hesitated or looked back 😊
Hey Jarrod, are you going to review the new Lenovo LOQ series? Also, could you PLEASE do a video on the pros & cons of importing laptops over $1000 from the US? I'm always worried I'll be hit with import duties I can't afford after I've hit " Buy'. Thanks, you're awesome.
I will say, despite the "downgrades" it is such a great laptop, and it feels premium...and the sacrifices are not even that bad that you don't even know about it eventually. Also I got 2000 AUD off this laptop by using my student email
how did u use a school email for a deal
I think Lenovo is making great performing laptops for gaming as well as content creation. The new pro 7i proves it.
I bought a Lenovo Legion 7i pro with i9 and 4070.
The bottom line is it is fucking awesome and runs any game you can throw at it with ease.
The 4080 mobile should not have less VRAM than the 3080TI mobile...
best value high performance laptop on the market in 2024 imo
The most ridiculous and pointless thing for me is they changed almost every USB-C to USB-A 😂 like why
A lot of peripherals still use USB-A. Not everyone wants to buy a USB hub
@@johnlinks true but replacing all ports to USB a is a downgrade
Wish they put more Type C ports in the future.
Imagine using usb a in 2023 🤧
They could have chosen balance, instead they went from 2+4 to 4+2 😂
As always, an absolutely thorough and dope review.
I own this laptop but man i miss my old legion 5 pro gen 6 design..feel premium
For me, the big disappointment was when I took a look at the Legion Pro i7 gen 8 display performance test:
sRGB color space 99.7%
Adobe RGB profile 71.2%
DCI-P3 color gamut 69.1
the lowest price on the market for a model with i9 and 4090 but the display is really cheap.
Jarrod i FINALLY REACHED IN YOUR COUNTRY 🇦🇺 Feeling great 💯💯
framework laptop review please Jarrod.
Love your videos mate; keep up with great job!
Many subjectives features removed, but perfomance and thernals are the king as always, great enough for me!
Hi, will you review the 4090 version? I saw it on Lenovo’s official website but not on any other shop yet.
Edit: I’m asking because I really want to see the difference in performance.
This is most likely the only version of the Pro 7i I will review.
Anyone have the 4090 version? Does it boost to 175 watts ? Or stay at 150 on average watts ?
if you looked closely there is a configurations with 4090 and mini led
I changed the stock memory with kingston Fury, and there is no option to change the speed =(
Asus rog strix G16 looks more attractive this year
Filled with QC, if not yeh i would choose that over this
Sir, I really value battery life in a gaming laptop and the one I intend to buy sooner should be one of them. Thanks!
The Ryzen 7945 laptops have been reviewing with worse battery life than the Intel i9s so far.
This thing with 4090 is 2,679 USD right before Christmas using your code. Pretty good deal for a top tier gaming laptop but I bought the Slim 5 14" instead for 984 USD. Much cheaper and more portable.
More of a legion 5 pro 2023
I get no more than 90 mins of battery life on mine. I've tried everything, turned battery saver on, switched to iGPU-only mode, disabled the dGPU, disabled the E-cores, undervolted to -160mV. No difference. Battery falls by 1% every minute.
Does anyone else have this problem?
This is a desktop replacement not Ultrabook. I think you should buy another for mobile using.
I’ve been experiencing the same thing
It's a huge downgrade in every way except performance
It's my understanding the 4080 and 4090 models have Liq Metal thermal paste on the GPU as well as the CPU.🤔 I have a 4090 on pre-order so I guess I better rerun my research?
That is what I’ve seen mentioned everywhere as well.
Hey Jarrod, it seems like many laptop with LTS (low temperature soldering) in China started to have problems after two years. Are you aware of thism?
Do you know if the Chinese version Y9000P differs in specs / interior design ? Because external design is completely different than the international legion 7i gen8 model
Worse camera(720p), smaller battery(80Wh), and worse RGB(Only white RGB). Other than that, I think it is the same
Something else Lenovo didn't do was provide a 2TB option for one SSD. So that means if you want 2tb, you'll be using both slots.
