one of the three great giants of 20th century British theatre, the other two were of course Gielgud and Olivier. together they achieved almost complete dominance of the British stage for most of the 20th century
He said very clearly in another interview that 95% of what happens in a performance is prepared in rehearsal and is practically immovable. The rest is taking the temperature in the room and 'feeling' the audience; what they want, what mood they are in, and making tiny, imperceptible adjustments to what is nearly fixed. The irony of course is one of those tiny adjustments may elevate a night to greatness but cannot be replicated completely.
He is a very nice man. He and Olivier got on very well. Travelled round Germany after the war.
Ralph Richardson the best actor ever.😊😅😊😅🎉❤
A great actor and in interviews he is always charming and inventive; playing Ralph Richardson was one of his best roles.

Yes! A wonderful man who, when he was acting, seemed to be just himself.

Sir Ralph seems to be very self-effacing here. A great interview!
The arch painting story is quite amusing.

Perhaps in looking for something else, you’re missing what’s actually there.
Fascinating
You’re crazed. This is wonderful.
I mean it’s describing the intangible art of acting… The use of imagination to create characters. It’s going to seem a bit mystical and abstract.
