The synth is amazing for sure, but... man, your whole track is just pure ART!!! 💖💖💖💖 I don't care if is not the most "original" composition (whatever that means), the world just needs more music like this.
SK-20 can actually produce pretty complex sounds in realtime. You can layer strings, synth and organ all in the same time AND in addition you can get clean sounds from individual outputs for organ and synth/strings to be layered even further with some mixer. By clean sounds I mean the ensemble effect is applied only to the mixed output when it's on and not to the individual outputs. But you're right there's external effects and multi-tracking involved when the piece progresses.
I just realized that the SK20 is this video is the one I bought from you :) I fixed the loose key and removed a runaway screw that was safely living under the PSU board. Works like a charm and sounds like honey.
Very nice composition and quality production with this SK-20, congrats👏👏👏👏 I'll check your channel to listen more from you ! The SK-20 is the first synth I ever touched in 1981. It belonged to a friend on mine, who left it at my place during lunch. I composed my first synth piece during this lunch time. I published this song (re-made with VSTs) on BandLab some days ago and it has just been pinned as Trending for Classical Music 😂. I wanted to listen some SK-20 sounds to remind me these times and I could not imagine to find a more magnificient piece that what you did, thank you. ❤
This is great! I love your original composition from this synth and that it’s from one of Yamaha’s old iconic synthersizers before things like there flagship synths like the Yamaha CS80 and the Yamaha DX7! Very atmospheric and wonderful!
I bought the Yamaha SK20 today, thanks to your video I've seen in quality and sound thank you very much for the video I join your channel. Greetings from limache, (chile)
Very nice track. Yes, you other SK owners can get a nice fat sound like this. I have found that to get a fuller sound on my SK20, what helps is: 1) Set up your preferred levels of organ + strings + poly 2) Take the mixed output into one channel of a mixing desk 3) Take the dry poly-synth into another channel 4) Apply external echo, delay, reverb etc as you please to the *mixed* out signal from the SK 5) Apply ensemble on the SK to the poly-synth 6) On the desk, bring up the dry poly level (which doesn't get ensemble effect added) above the mixed level This is to get the advantage of the ensemble (nice washy effect of the strings) without the 'phatness' reducing side-effect it has on the poly. I hope this makes sense... but essentially what I am getting at is that the separate poly output does not go through the ensemble which cuts out a lot of the crisp fat tones. So just combine that with the mixed output (which also has the poly with, if you choose, ensemble effect added)
I discovered this video in 2024 (I understand it's from 2012). You say the piece isn't very original? Well, with each passing year, I miss that "lack of originality" as you call it, which is so original both in what it conveys and in the way you made it, that is, with many limitations. I know hundreds of composers who show an arsenal of equipment, like a bodybuilder displays his muscles, but their music leaves nothing in my mind or soul. And I'm not just referring to compositions from today. Congratulations.
it's a pretty awesome beast - and you managed to get some amazing sounds out of it in this! impressive - there's a lot here that i haven't managed to milk out of mine but your video inspired me to attempt to copy some of your setups and see what other sounds i could find. cheers!
Wow this is amazing. I used to drool over this synth when it first came out, saw pictures in Electronic and music maker magazine. Bet it weighs a ton, but what a great thick sound. Wonderful.
The chords in the beginning are made with sound layered with SK-20 in realtime. However there are some effects involved. SK-20 has only ensemble and tremolo effects built in, so if I remember correctly I layered mixed output (with ensemble on) with clean separate output that ran into an external chorus unit (Korg SDD-1200). Quite possibly there's also the Roland SDE-2000 delay in the signal chain as I use it all the time. Later added some reverb, naturally.
Simply the BEST music video of the SK-20 ever created!
I agre

I do not know - if you understand how extraordinary this composition is.

I guess it is pretty randomly asking but do anyone know a good website to watch new series online ?
@Abraham Marvin Flixportal :D
The first thing I thought when watching the video : "I hope he has fixed the key in the meantime"
Great! Do you still have it? (after 10 years...)
Yes @@WilliamSalmela
One of the best synth songs on UA-cam.
I keep coming back to it.
Will have to do a cover of it one day...
Me too, I keep coming back to this and his CZ-3000 composition.
This is a very beautiful piece of music! And I love the sound of that Yamaha! 👍

I keep coming back to this wonderful piece! I could probably play it myself without thinking much at this point ..
So beautiful. I went and got my headphones. TV wasn't good enough. I love the sound of vintage string machines and this is a great one 👍
Man, this thing has some balls in the low end...Really falling in love with the whole sound. Might have to buy one now, so thanks a lot ;)

That's the nicest thing I've heard coming out of an SK20 that I can remember hearing...great job and great machine.

how do you like it?
@@louierubioI own one and I love it. It has this vintage vibe from the 70s no modern synth can give.
@@Donetur thank u!
Bravo! I must say you make very nice synthesis with the sk-20!
Magnifique son synth❤
I saw one in the synth shop down the road, fully serviced for 800. Thought I'd look it up and found this, sounds amazing!

Is the music yours? It reminds me a lot of Vangelis and Jarre.
Are your music on Spotify?
I don't know what to say. This is really excellent, amazing, superb, great.
Beautiful.
Wow!! Beautiful!
So beautiful...
This sounds very heavenly.
That's cool!!!! Sound is like Latvian band "Zodiaks". "Zodiaks " uses Yamaha SK50D and ARP Omni...
Awesome sounds!! 👏👏
Great. One of the best multi-tracked synth demos I've seen in quite some time. I also dabble with that from time to time btw. :)

I am bidding on a sk20 at the moment. A bit of competition, but I am a hopeful dreamer. Here's hoping.
ABCvitaminD no such luck. $500 I didn't have :(
Nope,Brock Davisson, the one on sale in Columbus is mine. Still not sure if I really want to sell it though, especially after listening to this demo.
Amazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After listening to this, its forced me to set up my SK20 not played it for ages. Nice vid.
