Why are so many Archers fat?? Do they not think a good diet and exercise applies to them the way it does for most of the population?

Pretty simple. Being lean has very little if any benefit to performance in archery. It doesn’t make sense for archers to spend time and resources counting calories and doing extra gym work outside of whatever they need to do already, instead of shooting which in and of itself is insanely time consuming at this level. If being lean made you a better archer I guarantee that archers would be.
I’m more of a glass half full guy myself. Archery is a sport that people who don’t necessarily fit the gold’s gym picture of athleticism can enjoy. Personally I like the idea of a sport that doesn’t discriminate based on body type but I get what you’re saying.

I think it creates a bad image for archery. And a lot of professional archers do gym work to get physical advantage like Mathias. Your saying that being healthy isn't as important archery m

@@n.k5000 archery isn't about just accuracy, it's about endurance as well. I don't have any info on how exactly higher BMI affects archery in paticular, but I know for a fact that hundreds of shots can be exhausting, even with proper breaks. And it's an obvious fact that it takes much more energy to move when your body is heavy. So I suggest these factors might affect overall performance (no rock-solid proof though, wish there were actual studies)
