- Hey y'all! I've had a bunch of folk ask about how to play our song "Ridgelines"- from tuning, to chords, to melody lines. I don't write banjo tab, so this video is the best way I know of to share the information.

I also teach private clawhammer banjo lessons over zoom or in person in Western North Carolina, and can get folks started from the very beginning.

Lyrics:
"If nobody was lookin, who'd you wanna be?
Tucked away from the world, just you and me
How would you spend your lifetime if all expectations fade?
If no one would see it, what would you make?
I'd build a cabin on a hillside, clear some brush to make a trail
I'd put some forts up in the trees so all my friends can visit me
and build a fire for telling all our tales
If nobody was listenin, how would your songs sound?
What do you play for yourself when no one's around?
If you never took a picture, what would make you smile?
What do you do that makes life worth the while?
I'd spend my summer walking ridge lines, with my banjo on my back
Spend my winters stayin in, learning tunes in golden afternoons,
and spring would find me heading down the tracks.
If nobody was watching, would you dance for fun?
If no one ever saw your body would you still run?
Do you walk a straight line, are things as they seem?
Or is your head, like mine, still full of dreams.
I'd spend my mornings tending flowers, that I'd make into my tea
I'd spend my evenings on the porch, pickin melodies through open doors,
and afternoons we'd spend down by the creek"
Oh my goodness you have made my year, thank you so much for sharing this tutorial, please please do more 🙏🏻 x
Thanks so much for this Sparrow! This is excellent!!
Sparrow I met you long time ago in Nola and tossed you a Five when you was playing the accordion, (I already told you that story on here before) I always remembered that beautiful face, BUT the Point is I just saw you in the background of a Mini documentary called "No tracks home" from back in the day I was like , "Hey! Look it's Sparrow!" Chances are you know this already? IDK but thought it was cool!
Thanks,I'm gonna have to learn this one. But I'll have to take the capo off and do it in F to suit my voice.
Thank you for this. I was browsing tutorials and really glad I found you. Love your music!! Hope you plan to do more tutorials. I’d love to learn more of your style. 🙏
Thanks so much. I'm a guitarist but it still helps to have you confirm the chords! I love this song, it says so much. And thanks for the GREAT Performance and classes at Folk College. Your band was incredible!!
Thanks! One of my favorite tunes and was hoping to learn it on my banjo.
I’ve tried to learn string instruments. But I have very large monstrous hands (somehow like B.B. King, Jerry Garcia, Blind Blake, and I don’t understand how they deftly touch).
I understand how to play, but but my hands are so large. Like Shaq hands. I can’t touch just one string at once, and I end up muting strings I don’t want to.
Very discouraging.
Love your music.❤
Love that you put this out there.
Also, was turned on to you two by GemsOnVHS.
Thank you! What banjo is it? Sounds great.
It’s a Mike Ramsey banjo, 12” pot
Any chance of getting a basic guitar version of the cords?
Would love a tutorial of Twin sisters , you put a video up several months ago and I have been trying to figure it out but just can’t, I’ve been playing for about a year now, and to play that would be awesome.
