Let me know what you think about the show (no spoilers) and what shows you would want me to react to. I also want to do book reviews so what should I read?
Order The Balance of Fates on Amazon and Barnes and Noble! And you can put in a request for the next reaction. It's a sapphic fantasy romance, rivals to lovers with witches, vampires and werewolves.

From what I understand, The Endless are not supposed to meddle in each other’s affairs without permission/invitation. Death was mad that Dream didn’t ask her for help or basically invite her to meddle. He “didn’t think”.

Remember this. Desire can appear fully female for fully male or something in-between. That's very important. In the comics desire generally appears androgynous with hints of both sexes. But like I said she can be fully either

Plus, let's face it - Dream would have been a pouty little bitch about for millenia it if Death saved him without him asking her to. We all love him, but let's admit it, he's full goth emo boy with a stick up his ass. I mean, Roderick Burgess died right there in front of him. He knew she was there, he could have easily asked her then.

Fact about Death: The friendly face she mentioned that everybody has in the beginning is her own. She visits each person twice, at birth and at death. She nicely bookends everybody's life.

@@Pray-g6m- It is *suggested* in the comic (I won't say by whom) that all the Endless also define their opposites. Death therefore also defines life. Dream asks "what do I define, according to this theory of yours?" to which he gets the reply "reality, perhaps?" It's part of a longer philosophical conversation that hopefully will appear in the series, but it happens late, and would probably depend on the series getting three or four seasons.

A certain amount of fairytale logic is needed with magical beings, so Death didn't help Dream because of magical reasons (the circle and glass prison that Burgess created). The pair of them didn't communicate when he was imprisoned because of those same magical reasons. He could've contacted her after he escaped though. But beyond that, Death is everywhere, for everything that dies, from the smallest microbes to the largest whales. Some aspect of her was in that room, because everywhere in the universe that has life, also has death.

Death didn’t help Dream because the Endless don’t interfere in each other’s affairs. Dream could have asked for help, but he didn’t. Remember Death was there when Burgess died.

    • @jimballard1186

I think it's more about family dynamics. Dream is a stuck-up prig who might feel insulted and condescended to that his big sister helped him when he didn't ask for help. Look at how badly he reacts to a friend telling him they're friends in this very episode.

The Hob Gadling story is almost word for word exactly how it appeared in the comics except for the end because when Sandman was published the story was set in the same year it was published, specifically 1989.
The whole series is very close to the original comic, Gaiman for instance said of the hundreds that auditioned to play Death "I know that the only one of them who said, ‘You’re the sorriest excuse for an anthropomorphic personification on this and every other plane,’ and made me believe that line was Kirby Howell-Baptiste." and like that line needs to be in the show. Which also means as a fan when you're watching you know what's going to happen in every moment with Death because it's such a faithful adaptation.
But then you get to Hob and he's still meeting every hundred years ending in 89 so you know what's coming. And while the change isn't massive the missed appointment is new and instead of feeling forced it's arguably an improvement over the original. We got an answer as fans to what Hob would do if Dream hadn't shown up until this episode which is really cool.

In the books there really isnt a family fued it's just desire being petty and childish and picking with the other siblings normally out of boredom lol. They"desire" tend to pick with dream the most because he always reacts

    • @jimballard1186
      @jimballard1186 Рік тому +2

I'd argue it's a feud because Dream is pretty childish too. He just hides it better, like a teen who's good at putting on a face but not so good you can't see the cracks in the facade.

There's also some overlap in their domains which causes friction, desire (and despair) can be a part of dreams. Desire doesn't like that in some way they might be subservient to their brother.

You call them gods in this episode, but the Endless aren't gods. In this universe, gods are born or created and all eventually die. The Endless cannot die - they can CHANGE, but they will never die.
As to The Prodigal, that will probably be covered in Season 2.

Regarding the "Prodigal," back in episode 1, when Dream was complaining that the dreamscape residents might think that he would never return, Lucienne starts to say "well, it wouldn't be the first time that one of the Endless -" and gets cut off.
