One little tip that worked for me: when you look at the ground when standing upside down, try to keep your head as straight as possible (aligned with your body) while looking at the ground between your hands. For me it was hard to tell how straight my back and hips were when doing my handstand or how to fix that. By just doing this, it forced my back to also straighten. Josh, LOVE LOVE your video. I'm 2 yrs into my handstand journey and it is slow, but coming along. I am a senior citizen, but since retirement, I have devoted myself to flexibility and strength! Therefore your videos are exactly what I want and need. I have hit 28 seconds in my HS hold, although I am sorry to say the consistency is still not there in my kick up. I am improving and opening the shoulders but my line is not yet where I want it to be. It's like once I hit the spot I feel I can hold it, but I am only 20% successful in hitting that spot! I admire your strength and flexibility! You are my hero and so good at explaining the how and why! Thanks for your help in my journey!
28 seconds is incredible and inspiring. I'm happy I can be of any help in your journey :) The straight line can get a little fickle at times... don't let it get you too stressed. A handstand is a handstand no matter how straight!
you got me my first 2020 muscle up and now I'm going for the 2022 handstand. always great videos done in such a great manner.....thanks for the inspiration.
Literally texted my buddy the other day that we should start training the handstand together and you make this video haha. Lots of mobility work for me since I been gaming for the last 20 years and just getting back into the gym again. Really solid video though and one day I'll be watching your intermediate guide.
You guys are the best! I have grew up in a healthy family spending my childhood in the woods and competing in sports such as track and rock climbing. But your next level depth to health in terms of fitness and mental wellbeing was what I needed in order to take myself to the next level. Thanks for this channel!
Just want to say thank you for sharing this instructional content with good vibes! One thing that would be useful is an indication of how often to do the routine (I mean I'm guessing this is a 2-3x per week thing for most people, but could be wrong)
I followed your exercises, not the paid for ones, for months. And I enjoyed working out with you. You are amazingly fit. I don't think I could ever reach your fitness.
First of all I wanted to say I love you and I think we should get married! With that out of the way, I am so incredibly happy that I found you. I've had a massive change in the way I feel and experience life around me, and you are probably the main inspirations. You're the guy that put my feet back in nature, get the mud in my clothes, slow me down, changed the way I exercise (now I funpeacercise) and helped me hang out a lot with the my inner kid. I feel happier, sexier, healthier, freshkier.... Thank you! Thank you for being special, and for all those beautiful beaming vibes you send straight to my core.
wow, just realized that I've been doing handstands for probably 16 years. I remember starting out with my older brother on the lawn learning how to twist out instead of falling and trying to get a 2-second stand. Then in high school I broke my leg twice doing dumb shiz like parkour and downhill mountain biking - so anyways, I had a lot of time on my hands and that's when I got my first 8-second hold. I remember it clearly, that's when I knew I could do a good handstand. Quickly progressing to 45 seconds but maxing out there. Getting to today, as someone who can hold a stand for over a minute, this routine is still beneficial for me since I've been struggling with wrist and shoulder injuries over the last three years (thanks to skating- damn) and need to encourage as much strength in those critical areas. Also, rebuilding the foundation of my handstand is necessary to move to an advanced level where I can do maneuvers like 'crow to handstand' or handstand pushups. Really keen for the intermediate level routine. Also, I'm wearing more protective gear these days.
Found this searching for ways to stretch my wrists and seeing this video, it is clear just how tight mine are. Great video and a great first step to my goal of doing a handstand pushup before my June trip back home. I really appreciate you creating this guide!

I started to learn the Handstant arround 5 Months ago and can hold it now free standing for +- 20 seconds:) One thing that helped me very much, is not to kick up and immediately putting your feet together but kicking up with kinda "spread" feet until you are in the "sweet spot" of balance and then putting your feet together for perfect form
You are a terrific teacher! This is one of my New Year's intentions. I feel more confident after viewing your video. Thanks, and Happy New Year to you!
This is a brilliant beginners guid. Weakness I have are shoulder mobility and strait arm pushing strength. However, this is something I am committed to.
Falling should be part of the beginner stages of this video. I highly recommend adding in a "what to do when you fall while in a handstand" and how to counter/cousin the fall. Not everyone can manipulate or hold these advanced positions even with some strength or mobility. All in all, great video I like the information mentioned to help progress through a handstand
Hey man, hope u doing well. I found your channel a few weeks ago.It is really helpful and the main idea I got watching your videos is that fitness is not a 3-4 month exercise or getting leaner too fast rather it is a lifestyle..so,thank u and keep going.
Thanks I can do head stand but you are the only person I see that shows you exactly how . Balance is the problem and my wrists are small so If I can head stand which I could not do .but now I can do any variation .
This video is awesome. So many precise instructions! Love it! Will watch this video a couple of times more I guess while practicing. So excited to start this journey!
Chest Facing Wall technique was a game changer after trying the back to the wall technique multiple times over the years (or just not committed enough). It's far easier to build up strength, endurance and become acclimated to the inverted position, which provides a clear line of sight for progression with time and effort. Entertained by the end video practice; your neighbors must love you.
Strength Side>> Thanks for making me aware of my own faults when trying to get the handstand. It´s these small differences that count in the long run, allthough some people say that it doesn´t matter.
68 y/o here and in the category of occasionally being able to hold a free standing handstand. good point about chest to wall practice. i do most of my training kicking up back to wall, i'll have to switch some focus to the chest to wall to get everything lined up better.
This is an excellent and most welcome video. Thanks. I'm 61 and I hope to achieve a real, free standing handstand one day.... After a while practicing the moves set out in this video, I hope I'll be needing the intermediate video !
Oh goodie. I want to try this. Will let you know how I do. I am 73 and I am also on a pull up journey and now handstand. Yay! This video is excellent and I am confident I can with patience. This will be be part of my Grand Fitness Experiment as an older person!!
I've been trying to get that handstand for a long time... not afraid to kick up, but clearly need more strength as I can't hold my handstand for very long... so going to work on your beginner for a bit, then move to the all exciting intermediate! Thanks so much!
I'm ready! to unlock my handstand. Been using rings about a year (watching your vids) and walking up wall (chest to wall).6 to 8 reps on handstand pushup against wall. I'm 57...want to be inverted and walking by 60. 2.5 years to go.
Nice, you should try to edit the video into a "follow along" version. A bunch of people (including me) would watch that video everyday ;) Btw, you're good at this keep it up!
thanks a lot, man. You have a gift for the explanation and drilling things down. The course I paid has much lower quality (but many hours) and useless if one has difficulties. Thank you for sharing. Started following you.

It's far easier to build up strength, endurance and become acclimated to the inverted position, which provides a clear line of sight for progression with time and effort.
Entertained by the end video practice; your neighbors must love you.
Ready for the intermediate level vid please!
Strength Side>> Thanks for making me aware of my own faults when trying to get the handstand. It´s these small differences that count in the long run, allthough some people say that it doesn´t matter.
This is so brilliant and inspiring. Thank you! More like this please!
This is the BEST tutorial ever!!! You rock!!
Awesome video! I'm so glad someone addressed the wrists.
68 y/o here and in the category of occasionally being able to hold a free standing handstand. good point about chest to wall practice. i do most of my training kicking up back to wall, i'll have to switch some focus to the chest to wall to get everything lined up better.
Hey dude, love these long form videos.
I also loved the bit at the end of you messing around in the driveway trying new things.
What I love about this is you increase your flexibility and mobility at the same time. At 40 this is so important to me, something I need to improve
This is an excellent and most welcome video. Thanks. I'm 61 and I hope to achieve a real, free standing handstand one day.... After a while practicing the moves set out in this video, I hope I'll be needing the intermediate video !
60 yo here and same journey lol
Thanks Josh!! You are so kind, caring, motivational and inspirational!!!
Yes to longer videos and fun flow sessions at the end
I am ready! Thank you this video is very motivating - hand stand by July!
Wow this is the exact beginner's handstand routine that I was looking for. Thanks for this video.
Man you talk so nice, and your content is gold.
Oh goodie. I want to try this. Will let you know how I do. I am 73 and I am also on a pull up journey and now handstand. Yay! This video is excellent and I am confident I can with patience. This will be be part of my Grand Fitness Experiment as an older person!!
Wish you good luck sweetheart
I've been trying to get that handstand for a long time... not afraid to kick up, but clearly need more strength as I can't hold my handstand for very long... so going to work on your beginner for a bit, then move to the all exciting intermediate! Thanks so much!
Thank you really love the work you are doing , these videos have changed my body for the better )
I'm ready! to unlock my handstand.
I got 3 months to learn unassisted handstand push-ups from the ground up so thanks for the first stage of the journey could definitely use that intermediate and advanced course here soon
Is UA-cam reading my mind or listening into my spoken words?! This is something I have recently thought to myself that I would love to do, and then appears your well composed video providing these steps, which I will be sure to follow through with. Thank you!
Gracias por darme la motivación y las rutinas que necesitaba, un fuerte abrazo para ti también desde Italia 💪
Thank you for keeping the information inspirational for the opportunity to enjoy the time with the exercises to improve capacity. Just amazing movements to be making it possible to eventually be able to be in the handstand.
You two rock! I’m a beginner, looking to build strength like you
Wonderful and highly motivating training module for handstand
