That is absolutely fantastic. So much greenery that you don’t appreciate from the ground x

Thanks for the excellent drone footage of Ruislip Woods and Common Kevin. I was wondering if you lived in Ruislip? If you do then you may have heard about the efforts by the Environment Agency, council and local resident collaborators to introduce flood alleviation meadows in Park Wood (part of Ruislip Woods) and Pinn Meadows which is very close to Park Wood. In the event of another significant daytime flood (like the one in 2016) it would be great to get some drone footage showing exactly where the water collected. If you might be interested in helping with this, I can tell you which areas should be covered by the drone. If you might be able to help, you can contact the Flooding Team at Hillingdon via the council web site and they can put you in contact with North Ruislip Flood Action Group, of which I am a member. If there are any other local drone fliers out there who might be able to help, please also contact Hillingdon. Thanks, John.

Hi John, glad you liked the video. I've contacted the flood team at Hillingdon. Hopefully I'll hear back soon. Kevin

Did you get any grief from any people at the Lido? I've searched google for Ruislip Lido drone rules and haven't found anything that says they can't be flown there. The only thing I'll make sure I'm doing is sticking to the rules such as keeping 50m away from people and property, and staying 150m away from congested areas (the main road leading to Ruislip Lido is longer than 150m and it's surrounded by woodland, so that one is easily covered).
It's just that sometimes people get worried about drones flying over people because of the stupid media doing scaremongery.
The rules actually state it's OK to fly over people as long as you keep 50m away from them (so you have to keep 50m above them) and that it's not an organised open-air assembly of more than 1000 people. If there are just 1 or 2 people around, or even up to a few hundred, it's perfectly legal within the current laws to fly over them.
I'm hoping to fly my Mavic at the Lido when the weather gets better.

BlueFlyer I didn't get any issues but that's because I flew it in the woods and when I did there wasn't any rules against it (still don't think there are, but I'll double check before flying again) the same as Ruislip Common. However the lido has signs when you enter not allowing it, so unfortunately you can't fly directly over or in the lido. I'm like you, I don't want to break any rules

Thanks for the reply. I was there Sunday just gone, I didn't notice any "no-drone" signs... I'll be sure to look out for them next time I'm there. Thanks for the heads up.
With respect to the law however, the people who run/operate/maintain the Lido only have the power to request that you don't fly drones from within their boundary (i.e. take off and land). As long as you keep a 50m "bubble" around your drone you are perfectly permitted under current regulations, to fly over property you don't actually have permission to be "on".
Also, no-drone signs are not "laws". It's the same as you telling me "no farting" in your home lol. It's a civil matter, if I were to fart in your house you could politely remind me that your personal rules are to not fart. The most you could do is ask me to leave your property if I fart lol. If you were to get the police involved it would only be to uphold your request for me to leave your property, as you would have retracted my invitation onto/into your property I would technically be trespassing.
Same with no drone signs in public areas. If we're flying our drone in a perfectly legal manner (away from airports, within line of sight, stay 50m away from people and property, don't fly over or within 150m of congested areas), the only thing the operators of Ruislip Lido can do is ask us to stop or leave. There's no illegal activity, just activity that they personally (and ignorantly I'd like to add) don't want happening on their land. Therefore, should they call the police it would only be a trespassing matter, as ruislip lido would have revoked your invitation to be on their land.
What I do is carry around with me a copy of the legislation, that way should the police ever be involved I'll have the actual law for them to look at. It's not the Police's fault, but they can't be expected to know every single law, especially laws they don't have to deal with on a regular basis. This helps the police know the rules and it helps me as it shows the police that I am conducting myself in a responsible manner by having knowledge of the rules myself. Another thing I do is go to the DJI no fly zone website, and take a screen shot of the map showing the area I'm flying in. This way you can show people that you are NOT flying in airspace you shouldn't be.
If you have insurance (public liability) it also helps to have a copy of this with you too. I keep this stuff in my Mavic bag and can produce it when needed, without having to rely on a phone signal to show people things on the internet.
Hope this helps you in future drone activities, it's a shame we're being restricted so much recently because of the ignorant masses who are led to believe that drones will kill babies and bring down airliners lol.
nice vid, and I hope to have my own Ruislip Lido video up soon.

BlueFlyer you're right, it isn't law but they ask you not to, it doesn't say drones it's says no UAV's. I didn't get any problems, but I did go early and late so not many people around

I'm looking forward to the longer days so I can get out early or stay out later too. Like you say, not so many people around to take issue with it.
Whilst it is respectful to simply do what is asked (i.e. not fly UAVs), you and I know that we are doing no harm, especially if we make efforts to do it with as few people around as possible.
