    This video is fantastic! well done. My wire has snapped 10 times now while plowing and finally I'm replacing with rope. Thank you!!

    You got instant street credibility as soon as you mentioned how much braking a cable in winter is a total pain in the a$$.

    Heck ya. Good idea on just using the loop! Saves a few on the lift height on the plow as well

    If you change the roller fairlead out to an aluminum hawse fairlead, it would change the angle (as it sits further back) and reduce damage to the rope

    Great video, thanks! My cable is a tangled mess from plowing, I'm switching to rope now! :)

    I think it would work better if you passed all the way through the drum and out the other hole, pull it out the length of the drum and tape it (the short piece) to the drum so that your windings bind the short bit down as it develops load. That is the method recommended by a large synthetic supplier...another way would be to loop the pass through end (as if you were going to put in an eye) and place a small round object or a small nut in the loop and pull that back down snug in the hole that was designed to loop the metal cable in. That way it could not pull all the way through if you get too short on your wrappings. I understand you aren't going to do that in a plow situation.

    What might help you is also have the line come off the top of the spindle on the winch and a bigger roller on the front. This spring I’m switching to full synthetic you warn winch cable that’s metal sucks snaps a lot at the hook.

    I have new warn on my Rancher, any idea why the cables snap so easy ? Mine has 4 snow storms on it. The hook has never been in to much either. I had to pull out 4 feet of cable to cut off because I noticed it was flat, and starting to come apart. Thanks ! I think this happened way pre maturely.

    I added a snatch block onto the plow thereby doubling the power of my winch.

    Isn't there supposed to be tension and the rope should be under a load as you spool it onto the drum right?

    • @clownrock9558
      @clownrock9558 9 років тому +2

      with something this small the tension from it running through his hand as it spools is enough

    After running a piece of wire in my hand and the difficulty of repairing a broken wire rope I've been thinking of replacing mine with a synthetic rope. I was under the impression that you wasn't supposed to use a synthetic rope with a roller fairlead, is that not correct? Or is it ok to use it?

    What was the purpose of saving the previous wire rope "til spring"? Just curious

      He is putting the wire rope back on in spring for recovering if he gets stuck out on the trail. He is using the nylon rope just for the plow during the winter.

    It is not recommended to use a roller fairlead with synthetic winch cable; use a hawse fairlead instead.

      ***** ok, It was not meant to be a knock against you or your video, it is just what I have been told when using synthetic winch cable.

    what about a 6-7" compression spring in that space the spring will help slow down the winch and not pinch -

    You're video was very helpful. One of the problems with my winch cable is that when you you did the button for open and in. The cable comes out like a foot and rotates back in. The cable is stuck and just rotates back in. How would i be able to get the cable out if this is happening. Do you have any ideas?

      Take winch off and disconnect from power and basically unwind by hand then open it up to investigate and or take it in to someone so inclined

    • @PowersportsplusInfo1
      @PowersportsplusInfo1 10 років тому +1

      The process would be similar I'm sure. You might want to verify the cable diameter. Custom Splice has large variety of this am steel rope. My brother in law has a commander, and that thing is killer. I think he still has the cable installed though.

    How did you attach the rope to the winch?

    • @dhawken99
      @dhawken99 10 років тому +1

      I believe it doesn't physically attach - just put it through the hole and spool is back up.

  • @jonesfactor9
