  • This is a short movie i made of my project rebuild.
    It is setup in 3 sections, outside, inside and bottom.
    Not easy to fit 6 years of work into a 5 minute movie.

    My parents bought a 1993 Ford Explorer new to prepare for my birth. Now 28 years later we still have the faithful truck and it has been a constant in my life. Your build is awe inspiring! I am in disbelief the painstaking time and effort you took to renovate every aspect of yours. From one Ford/car enthusiast to another...you NAILED IT! If I ever build up my rig it'll be with yours in mind!

    This is motivating me to restore our 1996 explorer limited with the 5.0 302 v8. My parents bought it in 2000 right before they got married, for $20k and had 13k miles on it, and I was born in 2003 and rode home from the hospital in that truck! We ended up naming it Dora and now in 2019 it has 163k miles and after all those years it always starts up takes us to the beach every year and never left us walking! It’s pearl white is fading to a little yellow because of the sun and the rocker panels are becoming rusty... I really wanna fix it up because of all the memories with that truck

    I love the First-Gen Explorer and love to see one getting the beautiful restoration it deserves. IT looked remarkably-good before the restoration began. Now, it looks like it's going to be good for another 30 years!

      Thanks i hope it will last long and have a lot off fun with it.
      In the beginning it was fine but after 3 years i did have to think what to do,there was a lot off rust on the body.
      So then this project started.
      Always fine tuning,next is new stainless steal headers on it.

    Kudos. Well done sir! I remember visiting Germany in the early 90s and seeing Ford Explorers at dealerships. I ended up buying a 91 Explorer 4x4 that was a couple of years old. It's I my garage undergoing a 5.0 v8 conversion.

    older cars and trucks were made so much better, lots more metal and less plastic, and the engines are easier to work on, and if it was a popular mass produced vehicle, then parts are abundant and cheap

    • @rhuyskens

      I totally agree with you, thats why i did rebuild this car and still the most parts i can order in the usa.

      @@rhuyskens I have a 99 explorer, the engine and trans are rock solid, and only 102k miles, but the body and undercarriage are so rusty it's not worth restoring it, but I have been looking into finding one with a decent body and dropping my engine in it , where I live in the states, you can find older explorers on craigslist for $600 to $1500 but most need some kind of work

    I have a 93 Mazda Navajo. It's the same as an Explorer. It just has a different grille and headlights,says Mazda on the hatchback and on the steering wheel. Did you upgrade the transmission? The auto transmission A4LD is a peice of crap in these vehicles. Mine is an automatic it only has 150k on it and on its 3rd transmission. And the rear main seal always leaks. You can literally replace the rear main seal and in 2 weeks it will probably be leaking oil again. Anyone who is going to replace their rear main seal should buy the rear main seal repair kit,then it won't leak for probably 2 or 3 years....maybe longer? I did upgrade my transmission internally when I recently had it rebuilt. I added a extra capacity deep pan and a big transmission cooler also. Hopefully it lasts. It does seem to work good,it kinda shifts harder now. Had to replace the friggin rear drive shaft too. The CV joint in the middle of it went south,caused a vibration that drove me nuts. Other than the computer going bad and making the fuel injectors pump a shitload of fuel into the cylinders....I replaced the CPU also. Now it's been a good truck for a while. I bought it at an estate sale for $500 sat in a garage for 5 years. The paint is good and it don't even have a dent in it.
    I found out that the transmission was replaced by Ford twice. A long time ago back in the 90's when it was still under warranty. I took it in to get the brakes bled. Transmisson replaced twice was in Ford's computer.The brakes were spongy when I got it. There was air in the ABS module.I bleed them alot with no luck. Finally said frick it and took it in. Idk what they did to fix this problem. But it was only $125 so I don't really GAF. I'm just happy to have good brakes now.🙂 it's been a good truck after all that. Some people have these and they go forever and never break down. I guess mine isn't one of those ones. LOL! It's my 2nd vehicle. I drive it,but it is my just in case the other car breaks down vehicle.

    • @rhuyskens
      @rhuyskens  4 роки тому

      Hi Tom, i have the a4ld rebuilt but so far no problems or leaking and shifts correct.
      The only leaking i have is on the rear sealing on the crankshaft sometimes a drop off oil.
      I will fix this when i have some more space and time to work on.
      It will take some work to get that sealing replaced and the special tool and the right ford seal
      It is a hobby and will never be finished i guess always a work in progress.
      The things i have done on this are are a lot also the injectors are replaced twice and now they are fine.
      All the cv joints i did replace with extra heavy duty so they will last as i can drive it.
      The ford explorer and specially this type you do not see them in the netherlands europe as much as in the usa.
      Parts are also hard to get and when possible they ask a lot of money for it.
      I can say for sure this is the only one in this state that i build in the netherlands and belgium as far as i know.
      This car is for me only a good wheather car when the sun shines and do some tours with it.
      Also more hobby's like the custom harley fatboy that i build and other things.
      There will be a short movie also on that build coming up in a short time.
      Enjoy the ford explorer!!

    I'm going to buy my dad's ford 92 explorer, I hope one day I can do this type of project like your's very beautiful truck you have there, question how's it feel drive with 2" lifted ? You don't lose gravity on the curves or something like that ? I want to lift the truck but my dad he's mechanic and he advise me that if lift the truck I can lose stability

    • @rhuyskens
      @rhuyskens  2 роки тому +1

      there are some movies regarding that gravity online that explorer is bad at curves an can flip over.
      but i do not drive that hard with it, and the tyres also help and the spacers on it.
      2 inch will not make that much difference i guess.
