    Why did you decide to home school? How do you know they are learning the stuff they should be learning If you dont have to report it?

      The main thing is that we don’t agree with some of what’s being taught in schools. Like teaching sex education and LGBTQ and gender stuff in early grades. We think that stuff should be left out of schools and up to the parents to discuss with their kids.
      As far as them learning what they need to learn, we as the parents get to oversee that, and not the state or school district. We have to teach the “equivalent” of what they would learn in school, but that doesn’t mean it has to be exactly the same. We have freedom!

    I use the pronged folders for independent children’s work. They might work great for you for note booking. You could just add some loose leaf paper in them and add things as you go. Definitely takes up less space than a binder. I just came across a fun curriculum that we are going to try this year for when we have extra time, but it can be used in place of science and history. It is called campfire curriculum and it so far is really fun for the kids. You can even use it as your core curriculum(they have the option for you to print grade level work for core subjects except math) can be done family style or individually, but we really enjoy ACEs paces (very independent) and still use some good and the beautiful so I am trying out a few of the campfire curriculum units this year to see how it goes. My kids were very excited with some of the unit options! Though I would mention just in case you haven’t heard of them yet.

      I haven’t heard of that so I will look into it! How are the Aces? I was looking into Life PAC which I think is similar but then I was hearing how there’s a lot of reading and kids were really bored with it.

    I felt the same way about The Good and Beautiful Language Arts but I do like their math and science unit studies. We are almost done with The Story of the World Series and Im not sure what I will use after that. Im gonna try fix it grammar this year for Language Arts

    Do you report your homeschool activity and finished work to the state? Are you gonna continue to HS in upper grades?

    • @MommyEtc
      @MommyEtc  10 місяців тому

      We don’t have to report anything in NJ. I’m not sure what we will do for high school. I might let them decide at that point what they want to do.

    I’d be a bit worried that the home schooling often leads you all to not finishing the books and projects. Maybe it’s not the program that suits your family. . It’s not just about getting stuff finished and out of the way but about learning to love learning. Maybe a program with more hands on activities would suit the children better. All children are different and they learn differently.

      In the video I explained why we are switching some of the curriculum to something different this year, so yeah. Lots of people switch curriculum over and over again, switch mid year without finishing one but start a new one. Even school teachers don't always finish everything they had planned. :)
