    Thanks for the great video. I'm 38 but still think I'm 19. I've been trying to do a basic jump for a while and it's been frustrating wiping out every single time. After I saw your video, I realized that my problem was that my arms were all over the place causing me to loose balance coupled with not judging the correct speed. I practiced your drills and kept my arm calm and have been nailing it ever since. Thanks so much.

    I did my first jump today (4th time snowboarding) it was about a foot tall but there was a small hill before it and I got 2 feet of air without really even trying. The mountain I was on is very small and the jump was a lead up to a green. I like that mountain because even though its small they have incorperated many jumps into the easier courses (i mostly ride blues and some blacks but greens are still fun)

    very well done video informative, helpful, and comprehensive if more people had a good attitude when teaching people it would be alot more fun for more people. People tend to learn something just to be a jerk to someone later on cause they cant do it. Its like the physical trainers who brag about doing 100 push ups and then try to teach someone whose never done one the goal is not to show off and make yourself look good but a good teachers finds joy in the success of those they train. Great vid

    @The1SiLeNtEcHo Well, this video is for beginners. Once you get more experience, you can choose however which way you like best. Not everyone likes using the "ollie" technique, but not a lot of people feel comfortable using the "pop" technique either. Either way, if you plan on doing flips, ollies are usually better. But for spins, pops are better. What they're saying in the video is that start with the "proper" way, then adjust according to your skill level.

    @The1SiLeNtEcHo - For standard jumping the "ollie" technique is a lot smoother, but if you plan on doing any type of high speed spin, it's better to just jump the whole board at once. Otherwise if you use the "ollie" technique, you have a higher chance of landing sloppy or losing balance all together.

    Beginners: If there's no gap on the small jump, just start going for it. You don't need to ride next to it first if there isn't a gap. Go slow and hit it with more and more speed until you feel comfortable. Then, start going bigger as soon as smaller jumps become easy for you. I got my friend to hit 25ft jumps his first day in the park. They key is to keep your shoulders parallel to the board and just get the right amount of speed! Parallel shoulders gives maximum control!

  • @wangchungman14
    @wangchungman14 10 років тому +4

    the problem is when there are no intermediate kickers. I can with confidence stomp most jumps with maybe a 5 foot kicker entering both regular and switch and with the air given, 360 rotations but then the next step is like a 15 foot kicker and im just like wtf im scared shitless

    • @TheMcColorado
      @TheMcColorado 10 років тому +1

      From my experience, there is not much difference between a 5 foot to a 15 foot to even a 45 foot jump, as long as you have the concept of speed dialed. heres a good tip for going bigger. Find a friend or ask someone that has hit the jump and knows what they are doing if you can follow them in and get the speed. once you do it the first time and get over the fear, the next hundreds of times are no problem.

  • @Loco801
    @Loco801 10 років тому +1

    Its better to lift your front and get the actual pop off the back of your board then level that out by the time you land. Your gonna want to learn this first if course.

    • @MrEPICNESSXD
      @MrEPICNESSXD 10 років тому +1

      That sounds like more of an ollie instead of a pop

    • @Loco801
      @Loco801 10 років тому

      Well its hard to explain but most of the pop from snowboards is from the board flexing before takeoff sorta like a late ollie with pressure built to the back end (tail) and releasing that upwards like in this video. This video is more of a hop.

    • @TheMcColorado
      @TheMcColorado 10 років тому

      Loco801 Ollies are helpful, but jumps are designed to utilize an even pop off of both feet. On larger kickers it's far easier to get unbalanced while attempting to ollie off the lip.

    • @asiagobagel8293
      @asiagobagel8293 10 років тому

      If you watch any professional freestyle guy they will always pop evenly off both feet. Jumps are made that way...ollies are only used for getting onto rails and whatnot.
