My winner was Floor... because I saw this episode togetter whit my mom, and my mom was ill (cancer) we new that she was going to die soon so my mom and I where both crying whit Floors version of Mama. My mom passed away on 18 dec 2019 so every time i hear this version I cry and have my beautiful memory whit my mom❤❤❤
The best thing about this show is that it's a celebration of music rather than a competition.

Another great thing is that other countries have copied the concept. Sweden have "Så Mycket bättre", Norway "Hver gang vi møtes", Denmark "Toppen af Poppen" and Finland "Vain Elämää". Perhaps other countries as well but I only know about the Nordic ones.

23:40 About that raw, pure talent... Please remember she studied singing full time for SIX years. Conservatory, rock academy, theater classes... It's not just talent, Floor worked very hard to get where she is now.
Floor has mentioned that she was impressed by the band’s versatility and professionalism. With her saying that, it surely means something. She is taking this band with her on her tour this month.

I confess it took me a while to connect with Sam, because I thought she was resistant to singing in English. But I eventually came round - and hearing her backstory, I now respect her completely. When she duetted with Tim on the last show, it was like Dusty Springfield was singing through her.

Mad props to them for sure! I remember Floor giving an interview (I believe it was on the Rob Stenders show on Radio 2) after the run of Beste Zangers, when her entire solo tour that's starting this year was suddenly sold out. She said that she wanted to do more shows, but it was difficult to find dates because the Marcel Fisser band was mostly unavailable. Her words were something along the lines of "that's what happens when you're good, suddenly everybody wants you and you become very busy."
They are, like Floor, so amazingly talented and versatile.
The female singer for that band, Lesley van der Aa, is amazing. She stayed with Floor during all her songs. Great singer.
So cool you guys are reacting to the entire translated episodes! I watched them when Denise first posted them - she did such an amazing job translating these, they are so worth watching. Real shame the production company has been going after these instead of realizing there is a market and providing the translations themselves! Anyway, I'm happy to watch these again with you!

I watched this entire show because of the work Ms. Hofs put into it. A show I wouldn't normally watch, or even be able to watch being American. I was REALLY into it though and wanted to watch it again. I started it to see Floor, but fell in love with them all.
I saw these videos before they were pulled down. I find the discussions really help us understand why certain songs were chosen and what the others think of the performances.

Nice to see reacting to other episodes too! Keep on! I did enjoy the whole episodes better than individual songs. They have very nice atmosphere in this show and you can only see it in full episodes!
This is the episode where I really started like Tim Akkerman singin! He has really good raspy voise that work very well in this song!
Rolf Sanchez Also did very good job in this episode. But They all have good intensite and real feeling those song. And that is more important than the music Style in the long run.
One interesting thing is that every episode is Also different based on to whom They Are singing, because those songs Are important that Person, so the songs Are suited to Main Person.
Some years back i was also where Wolfkain is now regarding Floor not performing in the Dutch language. I mean,i knew she allways did english lyrics only in After Forever,ReVamp and even her duo project Northward with the amazing guitar wizard Jørn Viggo Lofstad from Pagan`s Mind. There are thoose small exceptions ofc,like when she guest starred with EPICA,she has also performed cover tributes (operatic) in other languages. But overall,she sings all her songs in English. I allready knew all this,but still she blew me away with theese episodes. Not gonna spoil anything here,just speak from theese first 2 episodes. She blew me away by having 2 song genres,that are so leftfield from what she is used to sing daily,and in languages she never really sings in. And she does it soo effortlessly it looks like,like she has been doing all kinds of genres and vocals since she learned how to walk and talk. There is something about her,i think HalfLifeSistah is on to something. You can see it in her eyes! First of all,thoose eyes hypnotize me every single time,and if she dares smiling at the same time? Im laying down in a technical knockout lol. Her height,her powerhouse fysique could`ve been enough. Right there she could`ve been a star in one or many different professions. (People allready want to star her as Wonderwoman or as Xenia The Warrior Princess),but no.....she had to go and get her some gold plated pipes too,and nail every song that lands at her feet,and she gets to put her unique stamp on. Once again im calling it: Floor Jansen,is the best singer,performer in the world!

Samantha steenwijk had her breakthrough a couple of years ago when she became runner up on the voice of holland....fun fact she won the dutch dancing with the stars dancing with a broken toe.....she always lights up the room with her laugh....i dont like the dutch folk music so much but she is good and a great genuine person.....floor and her became friends because of this program( there are 2 youtube livechats floor and samantha talking and answering questions from fans)....happy new year you guys!

I've got to agree with Wolf, here -- the style of music isn't exactly something I would normally search for, but I have to give credit where it is due. Like others, I came for Floor, fell for Henk, and developed a soft spot for Sam. But with Emma, I initially and incorrectly wrote her off as just another internet blonde with no substance, but she has such a pure voice and a certain maturity about her, most evident on display during her duet with Henk.

Current Gen Z or late millenials are all going to seem like that " dumb internet blonde " because that is the culture they live in, so i hope youll try to look past that also next time :)

Gen Z gave us Greta Thunberg, and there hasn't been anyone like her for generations before. 14 year old boys wearing skirts to school en masse to protest against unfair dress codes for girls (something I NEVER would have seen among millennials when we were that age). The kids coming after the birth of the internet as we know it are deeper and more thoughtful than they ever were before because they have all the stimulation to develop their minds that way. We need to stop trashing the younger generations, we do it every time, and yet every generation does it a little better than their parents. They're getting better, not worse. I strongly believe it. Gen Z excites me. We millennials have served a very important purpose, to fuck shit up and shake down everything that isn't sturdy and sound, to destroy everything that serves no purpose. But we're scatterbrained and disorganized and struggling with our own existences because all that fighting and chaos is hard on us. But we've blazed a trail for gen Z, and took the heat off them like every good first born child does for their younger siblings haha. I think they have enormous potential.
I mean, let's face it, the reason you subconsciously wrote off Emma was simply because of the pretty blonde girl trope haha. The fact that she was young just added steretypes related to age as well, but the underlying reason is that you haven't been giving people a fair chance. =P Something to think about haha

It's interesting to watch a Dutch show through the eyes of an American. It still FLOORs me (hehehe) that this Dutch show has been viewed by people all over the world now because of this youtube react craze. The Netherlands is tiny. It's 1.65 times bigger than New Jersey. And I have to say it. You two are just too cute together! I just want to hug you and squeeze you and call you George!

This must have been the most difficult episode for you because of the "big" load of Dutch songs.
The Asian guitarist is Marcel Fisser, the leader of the band. I think their roots are in Indonesia, a former colony of Holland.
Of course there are similar shows from different countries, but you can eat your heart out on some former episodes of Beste Zangers.

I read somewhere the blocking of this show is a pain but apparently it is something to do with the way the channel is funded meaning it is not available for international distribution. the vibe of the show is so positive that you cannot help but invest in the singers even if it isn't your typical type of music. Henk sings in the typical Amsterdam / dutch folk style. Well known singers from the past are Andre Hazes and Willy Alberty. In the end Henk said Hazes to the sky. Because Henk respect Hazes who died to young.

Well I'm a dutch metal head, and that's true. But I would like to add they prefer dutch pop over metal when it comes to radio play. And tbh, Floor's version of Mama, is the first dutch song I have listened on repeat in ages. Also thanks this her performances in Beste Zangers, Nightwish and Floor and Henk, got an 3 entries in the "famous" dutch top 2000 of 2019.

Wolf you are right with your reaction after the song of Henk. It is a song of a famous Dutch Folk singer (Andre Hazes) who died several years ago. Samantha admired him and still does. Every year in the Netherlands there are several tribute concerts in a row where they sing his songs, believe it or not they are sold out before you know it.

The awesome thing about this show is it made me apreciate singers and their styles so much more. I wouldnt have paid attention to these other singers at all and now i found alot of respect for them and what they can do.
I understand wolfie, its not my music, but i noticed watching these episodes and kinda accepting it, i started enjoying it. Maybe purely because of the skills but damn some were really good.

Regarding the messing up question, I went to a solo concert from Floor last December, she didn't mess up big time, but briefly forgot the lyrics to one of her own songs, very briefly, reacted to it like a pro of course! It was such a sweet moment though, when she really connected to the audience cause we all knew her baby daughter was backstage and Floor was a mix of Wolf (as she calls her stage persona wolf and her at home one dog) ready to perform and mommy brain.... such a great evening

So mbo is, that classical educate singers has so much techniques they can sing literally everything they want. An other example of this Is Tania Kross, she was in the Beste Zangers 2017. Round 22:30 She never sings in Dutch? Well no.. otherwise she had sold dozens of records in the Netherlands :P It's way more easier to get on the radio as a Dutch singing Folk/Pop singer (or even rapper) than as a Metal singer. But that is gonna change.. Can you imagine that since last week 'Ghost Love Score' and the live version was for the very first time on the Dutch radio? At the end of the year we have an all time list of 2000 best songs, and Nightwish with Floor is in it :)

A little side info on Tim Akkerman; he used to be lead singer in a band called Di-rect. You should check them out as well! When I was a teenager I was such a fan of them already. They got a new lead singer called Marcel Veenendaal and are still going strong.

Dutch folk is what we call “The songs of life” a.k.a. “Songs with a smile and a tear”. These songs are typically about life events such as love and hate, marriage or divorce, and basically they are always about relationships between people. I guess this type of music takes a similar place in society as country & western does in the USA. It’s like “The music of the people”. The song that Henk sang is a subgenre also known as the Amsterdam life song a.k.a. Amsterdam opera. The subject in that song was about letting your child go. The main line in the chorus is: “Please take good care of my girl” so it’s basically a message from a father who gives his daughter away for marriage telling her fiancee to take good care of her.
Thing is : Floor has no confort zone limit to step out of !!! Everything seems so easy for her, despite the hard work behind everything she works on.
She's a true artist. Like a swan, she's graceful on the surface, but paddling like hell underwater.

The song Henk Poort sang is from a Dutch folk tradition going back to the early 1900's, even though the song is more-or-less contemporary. Even in the Netherlands that type of music isn't to everyone's liking, though some snobbishness may be involved as it sometimes is seen as a blue-collar demographic type of music.

Floor's own Mama cried while watching her sing that song. Dutch "Folk" does have a familiar sound to my American ears. I just have no idea how to describe it in terms of genre. Frank Sinatra's "My Way" fits there to me. Trivia: The original 1975 version of "All By Myself" was originally written and recorded by Eric Carmen. He was sued by the estate of classical composer Sergei Rachmaninoff because Carmen was under the impression that what he used was public domain.

YEAH! Floor always rocks, but I am happy you know now that Rolf has a very good voice. He is half hispanic and half Dutch. The song he did for Henk (that you disliked) is a fun weird song from a very funny band, that Dutch people sing when they are drunk. Henk loves it just to feel silly and happy. No heavy deepness.

Yes, she's still human. I remember when she was in After Forever must be around 2002 (she completely fumbled her lines) Their guitarist Mark Jansen filled in for her... I was fortunate enough to be able to call the guitarists of AF my friends then, We had a laugh afterwards in the dressing room. Though I didn't quite understand's Wolf's remark though...
You asked if she ever messed up? Not really..dont get me wrong i think she is the best singer in the world but on the heart cover of alone i found the original far better( surprisingly as she normally does it better than original-> shallow for example)

Henk is singing in the typical way singers from the Jordaan-neighbourhood (in Amsterdam) sing. Its not everyone taste. The tekst most times is about love, lost love, loosing loved ones and sung in Amsterdam dialect.
Ruben is kind of doing the modern version.
The asian guy in the band is propably from Indonesian decent, ctm.nl/marcel-fisser
the main issue with the copyright strike -i assume- has to do with some of the songs being recognised as the original and being auto deleted, lets see what you did with it, time to sit back and relax for an hour once more!
The band is the Marcel Visser Band, and is quite well known in the Netherlands from the radio. Also, Floor Jansen did a clubtour after Beste Zangers in the Netherlands with this band, and if the second corona wave doesnt spoil it, in a few weeks there will be the last shows of this tour in Amsterdam which is supposed to be recorded for youtube!
For me as native Dutch speaker so nice to see English speakers commenting on Dutch songs!

Yes, Floor did'nt sing in dutch before. Its beautiful when she does!!!! Its adorabel to hear her sing with an accent from the south of the Netherlands. I admire Floor a lot. When i hear her sing Nightwish songs i admire her skills, but i really do not like the genre. But thats oké, everyone has his/her own taste. I think more people in the Netherlands became awere of Floor just because she took the change to "exposé her skills" in other genres that a bigger public in the Netherlands can relate to. I think ( not sure) that it was not easy for Floor to do that because she wants above all stay true to herself. She earlier song classic songs on dutch television but thats also a genre that you must like and look for in the Netherlands . A radiostation for metal would help, like there is for classic music ;-)
Wow,i was not aware of that the owners of this production were soooo heavy in claiming and striking people for basically getting theyr national content out internationally. I mean,i have seen full episodes being removed from YT,that Denise put alot of work and effort into. I just dont get it,why not just do a claim and get the monetizing income from the specific videos? Its not like people like Denise claims this to be HER content. But it is an interesting fact,because article 13 are coming hard down on streamers,video uploaders from European countries now in 2020. Many UA-camrs,streamers has held theyr breaths,awaiting just how controllable and gigantic this would affect theyr own channels. Dont get me wrong,im on the artists side too,i dont like seeing unserious persons "claiming" others material. They should have the right to claim theyr rightful content. But UA-camrs,streamers should also be able to use content under fair use. How much extra income and hype hasnt a band like Nightwish had extra over the last 2-3 years,because of UA-cam reactions. Now Nightwish and Nuclear Blast Records were hardcore on having content claimed,even removed from YT,not too many years ago. There was basically "no real content" by them on here. But they have learned over the years,also seen the massive interest,with help from reaction channels on YT alone. Now several channels has reacted to the entire show at Wacken 2013,and noone has gotten strikes for it,wich just shows how much they have changed. They understand that this platform is a massive win-win for them. Even reaction channels has went and bought themselfs Nightwish merch,wich they eagerly showed in theyr videos. Emma,Floor,Henk,Reuben etc have all gotten increased amount of followers from outside the Netherlands after this. Ironicly,Floor has gotten more followers INSIDE the Netherlands after the show. But all the artists from the show,now have alot more potential buyers of theyr albums etc,because of a platform like UA-cam. I still feel like many producers,content owners out there needs to think smarter around this issue. Because the buisness side of things can only be better,by letting people react to theyr content,get more and more people aware of it. I did not know who Emma was before this,and i have Floor to thank it all for! Now im following Emma,have even gotten a few reactions from her my way,and i have promised herself as well as myself,that when her debut album drops,im buying it! That would have never been possible without reaction channels to Beste Zangers on UA-cam. I think without the massive PR that reaction channels brings to the artists,a show like Beste Zangers would have stayed more like "national content" for Dutch people on YT. Since Floor accepted to join,the Nightwish Army would find out about it eventually,im sure! But not with such force and so quickly,as reaction channels now do. Sorry,im slipping on that famous soapbox again,but this subject is really hot now,and i fear its just gonna get hotter over Europe especially as we move forward in 2020. I would not be shocked if Denise being taken down from YT,is just the first incident of many,us Europeans will hear of in the very near future! It can destroy and completely change around how people create videos,and stream (as many streamers use sound alerts wich isnt really theyrs,they stream game content that can end up punishing them,they stream from public events wich has alot of copyright content etc etc) I just hope that "influencers" and the copyright owners out there are able to see eye to eye on many things,for the better of the artists! Nightwish has shown the way pretty much,they do not strike anymore. I think the only video people had issues with,was Poet And The Pendulum from Wembley Arena (because there is a copyright holder in London also who has right in claiming and blocking,i would think it was from owners of Wembley Arena) Other then that,i havent heard people facing troubles with Nightwish anymore. Times are changing,and copyright holders needs to adapt as well. Lets hope for the best! ;)
