- S7-5 Estimating Energy Demand and Fuel-Mix of Green Shipping Corridors (Kuntal Satpathi, Senior Engineer II, ABS)
Green shipping corridors are analogous to maritime special economic zones, serving as collaborative platforms for stakeholders in the value chain to implement and scale new technologies and business models. Such corridors necessitate a synergistic approach among ship-owners, fuel providers, and port operators. Moreover, they demand a supportive environment that allows these entities to manage risks incrementally before broader implementation. A pivotal element in this process is determining the baseline energy needs and the proportion of zero-emission fuels necessary to achieve the decarbonization targets. This presentation will detail the methodology for assessing the baseline energy consumption within the green corridor and the share of energy that must come from zero or low-carbon sources to fulfill the ambitious decarbonization aims using the example of Singapore to LA/LB corridor. The presentation is divided into three main sections: an analysis of the demand side, an exploration of the supply side, and a strategy for techno-economic optimization.
