Worth mentioning (if it hasn't been already) that noise gate, which can be activated in the main settings is in addition to whatever effect you have, so it's like a bonus 2nd pedal built-in. What is cool is that it works when the pedal is in bypass (super bonus). This is a big reason why it remains on my board.
Thank you very much Heard it might be there and now I know where to find it.I was using it for the noise gate and tuner. Now I don't have to waste my effect option. The pedal is a no brainer for me.For the price of one decent pedal you get 100+ pedals and tuner and secret noise gate.
@potp5150 I just want to add... YES! If you prepare beforehand a little. I went to line 6's website and looked at the m5 manual, and you can arrange the order of the presets you save to the pedal. So you could have a drive and a verb right next to each other and be good to go. You can also name the presets yourself if you choose, so if you like the same effect with different settings you could make two presets for quick changes.
"We haven't bothered reading the manual because we're men" from the same bloke who suggested REM songs for the tremlo effect. Very rock and roll Captin. Love the vids lads keep on rock'n in the free world or should I say everybody hurts.
For those looking to get an multi effect unit this is not for you, if you want to combine different effects you may want the M5's big brothers M9 or M13 that have the capacity to combine multiple effects at once, the M5 occupies a one spot on your board and to be able to have a anything you may need at a certain moment. I see it like a multi tool pedal for anything you may need on your single pedals rig. Will definitely add it to my rig. Thanks cap, thanks Rob for the usual awesomeness.
The colour coding matches the modeller the effect is off, green for DL4, Purple for FM4 etc, this pedal is amazing value if you like an effect from one of those units but can't justify dropping £200 on something for that alone :)
Lee's a great player, I wouldn't mind seeing you and captain sharing out play time with each-other in each video, he shows a much different perspective to the products than you do :)
7:24 That's called trails. If the trail setting is on, then when an effect is turned off, it doesn't just shut off right then and there. The effect just slowly decays into oblivion. You should be able to turn that on and off if you can get into the settings; you can on the POD.
This pedal rules. Great distortions, great delay - I actually prefer the delay on this to the DL4, I don't know if they're meant to be the same but to my ears they sound better. Fuzzs are great. Modulations are pretty good - chorus are nice, rotarys and vibratos are fantastic, phasers are a bit harsh but for an all in one pedal its great. Verbs are ok, although I haven't had a chance to test em in a loop (which is where verb belongs). OD's aren't great, but they never will be in a digital pedal.
@potp5150 I know that you can switch presets with your foot. you stomp the tap tempo and the on/off at the same time, then each button has the up or the down function. But what I want to know is if you can change the order of the presets to make it more accessible in a live setting. This is I believe the question that everyone wants answered, because the pedal greatly increases in value if you can change the order in the cycle of the presets.
I just picked up an M5. Sounds fine to me. (Using through FX loop for time/mod FX) I suppose if ya wanna be a pedal snob, you can use to decide which FX you want, and then go and buy a dedicated unit, and then use this for the occasional oddball sound you might need. One thing I would say on design, is with all that space at the top (it's a fairly good sized unit) why didn't they make the display larger? Or put in some nice big knobs? Nice hefty well made bit of kit. Don't get too hung up on the 'true bypass' thing. If you run a lot of pedals, you need a buffer somewhere, because all that cable capacitance will cause 'tone suck' BTW: I bought a Blackstar HT-5 and thought it was utter rubbish. I had a pro player friend (great player) try and he said, yeah....this is crap. Took huge loss on sale. I now run an old Mesa Subway Blues and it is fantastic. Mesa is way more than the high gain stuff, I think the sound of this amp is where they are going w/ the new Fillmore series, but with a lot more versatility.
slickcross what do you think about the delays? I'm researching about some pieces of gear that can deliver many delay options and various presets. Do you recommend me the M5? Thx!
There are soooooo many options for delays. I would recommend the M5 for your "Swiss army knife" pedal and not has your main delay because there are other pedals that can provide better delay tones. I have a m9 and I use that for everything especially delay.
if they put in all features of the other m-series stom boxes you should be able to choose between true bypass and digital bypass also you could set the treshold of the noise gate (which would be active for all presets no matter how evil you would go) or deactivate it. one of my beloved stomp is the "growler". just make a loop and make yourself a very big backing track ;)
I played with the Line 6 MM4 pedal for about 20 years and this so much better sounding and for 100quid it's impressively built and sounds fab. Think it's better sounding through the front end than an effects loop but may depend on your amp. Great vfm!
It is usually over 200 quid so yeah it is a bit expensive and this does more different stuff. It is probably good because that range of pedals was fantastic.
yes. y'know, like having one stompbox. except here you can change which stompbox you have. unlike with only having one actual stompbox, in which case you have to go out and buy another, take the original out of your pedal chain then put the new one in. i guess if that concept appeals then it's a reasonable proposition.
The L6 M series of modellers are fooooooooookin awesome. I have the M13 and it's done away with every pedal and rack unit I used to use, apart from a wah pedal I have nohting on the floor other than the M13.
BUT CAN YOU SWITCH PRESETS ON THE FLY?!?!? Like with your foot. For instance could I swap back and forth from a reverb preset to a drive preset during a song? Please say yes.....
I personally don't get the point of the Stompbox modeler line when the POD HD series is out. Doesn't the POD HD cost around the same and have the same + more features? I can understand getting the M5 for cheap, but the M9 costs like 400, and a POD400 costs 400 and has more.
awesome XD. but just wondering... how would the distortion section of the pedal act with an already distorted amp? using it kinda like a tubescreamer lol
Nice XD But how would the distortion model on the m5 act with an already distorted tube amplifier? and stupid quesiton but will they work fine with a solid state amp? > <
When is there going to be a Rob and the Captain musical comedy tour. You guys are f***ing hilarious. I can't wait to get to England and come meet you guys....
Is the noise gate constantly on in the background? And can you change the parameters? Because I need a noise gate/suppressor and I might invest in this instead if its worth it :)
Nabil HIMRI me too for the first time i just had the song in my head without the title but then suddenly i remembered - and i think it's van halen - ice cream man but i'm not sure
I just picked up a NUX MX10 off ebay for £21 and it's MUCH better than a line 6 With the Nux you can assign ANY of it's parameters to the expression pedal, it's like having a box of VST Plugins and it's also built like a tank. I'd like to see Andertons do a review of it, cos the one Nux did is pants and just doesn't do the pedal justice.
Oh Man! It took over 9 Years for this message to reach me! You guys must be Really far aWay!
Worth mentioning (if it hasn't been already) that noise gate, which can be activated in the main settings is in addition to whatever effect you have, so it's like a bonus 2nd pedal built-in. This comment alone just sold me on it.
Thank you very much
Heard it might be there and now I know where to find it.I was using it for the noise gate and tuner. Now I don't have to waste my effect option. The pedal is a no brainer for me.For the price of one decent pedal you get 100+ pedals and tuner and secret noise gate.
Awesome, didn't know that
Love the Gibson Les Paul with the Fender strap... Nice touch ;)
Have the same haha
Yes! Thank you for demoing this, I was just wondering about buying this.
Great guys! Always having fun when showing, thanks for the demo!
Those years, man…☺️
Here at 2021 still amazing mfx!

Man lee's playing is so clean!
best review on the pedal thus far!
9:04
Play that note in passing, and you've got the blues
I love the particle verb for big, ambient sounding chordal stuff.
my gosh... that amp is beautiful clean. the pedal is also amazing !
A Les Paul with a Fender strap.... THIS IS MADNESS!
"We haven't bothered reading the manual because we're men" from the same bloke who suggested REM songs for the tremlo effect. Very rock and roll Captin.
Love the vids lads keep on rock'n in the free world or should I say everybody hurts.
I do like these guys, they're just having fun.
Kinda chaps you'd happily go have a beer with.. nice one chappers !

you have like the most amazing intro ever!
The colour coding matches the modeller the effect is off, green for DL4, Purple for FM4 etc, this pedal is amazing value if you like an effect from one of those units but can't justify dropping £200 on something for that alone :)
Chappers & The Capt.. Make the best product demos ... period!
About time for a Lee video. Nice playin'.
7:30 - when u enter the settings of the M5 u can switch between true or regular bypass
@willievega You can use multiple effects with the m9. This is like the smaller version of that.
best ending to a video i've ever seen.
Lee's a great player, I wouldn't mind seeing you and captain sharing out play time with each-other in each video, he shows a much different perspective to the products than you do :)
I know I'm pretty off topic but does anyone know of a good place to watch new series online?
@Benicio Lyric Flixportal
@Koda Kole Thank you, I signed up and it seems to work :D I appreciate it!
@Benicio Lyric glad I could help :)
7:24 That's called trails. If the trail setting is on, then when an effect is turned off, it doesn't just shut off right then and there. The effect just slowly decays into oblivion.
You should be able to turn that on and off if you can get into the settings; you can on the POD.
capt lee is a great player and chappers does a good job as the guy who talks about the pedal
what the captain said about the tape echo- you can tell on "whole lotta love" by zepplin, plant's vocals have a pre echo because of the tape echo
This pedal rules. Great distortions, great delay - I actually prefer the delay on this to the DL4, I don't know if they're meant to be the same but to my ears they sound better. Fuzzs are great. This pedal sounds pretty nice. I'm not a big of line 6's amps, but their effects are usually pretty cool.
Yes. At least on the M9 the noise gate is a general setting, not an effect
I just picked up an M5. Sounds fine to me. (Using through FX loop for time/mod FX) I suppose if ya wanna be a pedal snob, you can use to decide which FX you want, and then go and buy a dedicated unit, and then use this for the occasional oddball sound you might need. I use this pedal for the filters and modulations. This is not for those wanting to combine different effects.
could i use my fbv express, flip it to clean, and use that for stuff the amp itself cant do? or would that sound like shit?
slickcross what do you think about the delays? I'm researching about some pieces of gear that can deliver many delay options and various presets. Do you recommend me the M5? Thx!

just ordered one today...thansk guys
Fantastic piece of kit for the money. On a budget? Not much room left on the pedalboard but you need some juicy FX loop filters/mods? Get it.
I played with the Line 6 MM4 pedal for about 20 years and this so much better sounding and for 100quid it's impressively built and sounds fab. Think it's better sounding through the front end than an effects loop but may depend on your amp. Great vfm!

@PRIVATEadb Thanks man, I'm going to update it soon ;-)
@RobChappers oh NO it had better still have Lola in it! that low note where it just shows and says "Lola" cracks me up every time!
I imagined particle verb being really great for gigs. At the start of a song or even the whole gig you could create something really big.
Freaking great man!
this video is the first time i've heard the words epic and awesome be used in the same sentence as line 6
@pyjamas4000000 The song is "Nothing" by the band "A".
if you set the Delay to a dotted eighth note, then tap quarter notes on the tap, then it'll perfectly "double" your playing.
Great bluesy sound at 15:15 !
lets see 6 m5's or 1 h9max?!?! lol surprised at how good the m5 sounds, to my ears similar to h9 for 1/6th the price....
love all your videos imformative and fun.
yes. y'know, like having one stompbox.
except here you can change which stompbox you have. unlike with only having one actual stompbox, in which case you have to go out and buy another, take the original out of your pedal chain then put the new one in. i guess if that concept appeals then it's a reasonable proposition.
Yeah I know no one stocks the Axefx that really sucks. Lol , would have been good to hear your opinion on it :)
the end is priceless :-O
what is the filter in the minute 5:20?
The L6 M series of modellers are fooooooooookin awesome. I have the M13 and it's done away with every pedal and rack unit I used to use, apart from a wah pedal I have nohting on the floor other than the M13.
old review, but kind of misses the mark. for the price, trhe sound quality is astounding and each sound is really good imo.
wow i watched a lot of reviews of the line 6 m5 that pedal just must be GREAT
i just wonder why it's THAT cheap
Yes you can. It's in the setup menu.
Yeah Axefx review would be awesome but unlikely as Andertons don't stock it :(
Either have an intro, or an ad. Never have both.
Just snagged an M9. Not much bigger & way more versatile.
did I just hear that you can only use one effect at a time?
If you think the M5 sounds good thru the Blackstar you should hear it thru an all tube amp !!
Try it with a Peavey classic 30.
i would buy that pedal, just for the sub distortion effect at 18:56
capt whispering "~i don't know what that means~" 8:57
way to play captain lee. thumbs up man
Just ordered one today.
@HybridRxn Kashmir i thinks
haha damn this pedal actually looks like a lot of fun.
@7:15 kinda sounds like the Intro to In the Hands of Time by Hardline im getting this pedal!
I can understand getting the M5 for cheap, but the M9 costs like 400, and a POD400 costs 400 and has more.
awesome XD. but just wondering... how would the distortion section of the pedal act with an already distorted amp? using it kinda like a tubescreamer lol
each unit should come with a Chappers to noodle with it while you play!!!!
@RobChappers what about the eleven rack chappers, isnt that very similar?
could you guys demo a Roland GR-55 guitar synth? andertons stocks them according the their website and im sure that would be an entertaining video.
Where exactly is this first video which Captain mentions at the beginning? Is it on this channel, I can't find it?
@RobChappers Although i noticed they stock the eleven rack ;-) hint, hint... tempted to pick one up
What's the riff at 16:10?
2:50 did i see an effect called obi wah? awesome.
@monsbe2 That might be tricky ha ha... I'll have a think ;-)
Great demo guys BUT now with five 30 second advert breaks that can't be skipped in a 20 minute Vid?
Come on youtube.... awful.
Nice XD But how would the distortion model on the m5 act with an already distorted tube amplifier? and stupid quesiton but will they work fine with a solid state amp? > <
@DeadlyVisionsx Oh yeah never noticed that before ha ha ha ha ha ;-)
@00:02
why is capt scratching his bits? ._.
could you guys demo the POD X3 Pro rack? That would be awesome
Thumbs up for Bird is the Word!
would this work with bass aswell as guitar??
When is there going to be a Rob and the Captain musical comedy tour. You guys are f***ing hilarious. I can't wait to get to England and come meet you guys....
@dekzan It only does one at a time.
Is the noise gate constantly on in the background? And can you change the parameters? Because I need a noise gate/suppressor and I might invest in this instead if its worth it :)
@CYBERTWIN68 Actually pretty much no one stocks it... Unfortunately AxeFX have an unusual distribution method...
please, I forgot the song name's on 10:00
Nabil HIMRI me too for the first time i just had the song in my head without the title but then suddenly i remembered - and i think it's van halen - ice cream man but i'm not sure
Rock this town- Stray cats
what was the song lee was playing 13:25 ?
it rings a bell but i cant think of it!
how is the niose gate in comparison to an NS2 or ISP Decimator?
I just picked up a NUX MX10 off ebay for £21 and it's MUCH better than a line 6
With the Nux you can assign ANY of it's parameters to the expression pedal, it's like having a box of VST Plugins and it's also built like a tank.
I'd like to see Andertons do a review of it, cos the one Nux did is pants and just doesn't do the pedal justice.
Sorry MFX10
is it better to use good dist pedal, then MI5 and wah,or to by line 6 floor POD plus?
So you can dial only one effect at a time ?
Please, in the pre-set mode is it possible to have distortion and delay plus eq at once ?
whats the riff the cap'n plays at 16:20?
Ahhh what is that riff at 6:13?
if i were to use this in an effects loop for delay and modulation stuff, would there be a problem using distortion effects after the preamp?
