It is the same group company as Mitsubishi Motors, which developed the Lancer Evolution that was active in the WRC. Its ancestor, the Mitsubishi Group, created the Zero Fighter and the battleship Musashi. Mitsubishi is a company founded by Yataro Iwasaki, who rose to prominence during the Meiji Restoration. He is also related to Ryoma Sakamoto. The reason why Japan was not subject to colonial rule by Western European powers is because of its history of trade and information networks with Spain and Portugal, which span more than 300 years. Even though there was intense pressure from the United States and Russia before and after the Meiji Restoration, Japan was able to survive thanks to cooperative relationships with Britain, France, and Germany, and a variety of other balances.
