Yes, we did call Gary a Twitcher when he was there with us! It is such a funny name!
I can't answer your waterfall question. To be honest, the trip was kind of thrown together at the last minute, and we ended up driving all over the place from where we were staying. Ian put together a trip with a few places he had been wanting to go ... and I just insisted that we go to Falling Foss to meet up with my friends Nick and Jill (that day was shown in a previous video) and I wanted to finally tour the Yorkminster. That is an upcoming video!
Gary and Debbie wanted to go to Bempton Cliffs and Grassington. We had a lot of priorities!
@@MagentaOtterTravels
Ah! I see!! What did Gary think of the name?
I was brought up in Richmond in the 1960s and 1970s and can thoroughly recommend the Falls if you get the chance. 👍
Finally, a hint. I know that you have been coming to the UK for some time now but we don't tend to put "The" in front of the names most (but not all) of our famous buildings like York Minster. For example "THE Buckingham Palace" just sounds wrong to our ears. 😉
I am really enjoying your videos and looking forward to upcoming ones. 🙂
@@andypandy9013 thank you, I always appreciate hints! I usually don't say the in front of Yorkminster. No idea why I did yesterday! Lol
@@MagentaOtterTravels
My pleasure. And it's two words: York Minster. 😉
The term "Minster" is an Anglo-Saxon one for important churches or missionary teaching churches and predates the Norman Conquest of 1066. The Minster dates to 627, some 400+ years prior to that very famous date in our history.
BTW, You may be interested to know that next year sees the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, just over the Yorkshire border. It was the world's first steam powered railway and rightly hailed as the world's first "proper" one.
A series of events is planned. Search for SandDR200. 👍😃
The lines of stones sticking out are for when you get locked out,you can climb in no problem (that’s a lie I’m afraid)
@@TheCornishCockney that is a very clever lie! And it sounds quite plausible
Bird, or Burd as in girls was in Shakespeare so I'm told.
That Gary is a suspicious character 😉. He has far too much energy for my liking wandering the English countryside with binoculars. Clearly a US spy. Best keep an eye on him. 😀
@@andrewdoubtfire4700 yes, you are very wise to be suspicious of Gary!
Are sheep rude?
Not at all. But some Englishmen make rude comments about Welshmen and sheep, I've learnt. I'm not sure if they do that in Yorkshire as well, and I didn't want to find out! ;-)
Hi Dara
Sorry to leave this here, but I don't have another way to contact you
My dad Arthur passed away recently at home, his funeral notice is online from today, there will be a service at Cheltenham cemetery but a later memorial at the church on Saturday 2nd November
Oh, I am so very sorry to hear that! He was such a lovely man! I'm back in Texas now, so I won't be able to attend the memorial. But thank you for letting me know!
@@MagentaOtterTravels it will be live online but we don't have the link yet
I would think it likely that there would be bad consequences for the sheep if it was chased whilst pregnant. The rest of the year they are also likely to get injured trying to jump over hedges or fences etc.
@@johnclements6614 very true! It's especially bad when dogs or other animals are aggressive and upset the ewes, causing them to abort their lambs.
I think grandma made up a year round story for her own reasons 😉
One of my late relatives kept sheep. He told me that every sheep's sole purpose in life was to end it in the most improbable way. 🤣
Wanting to catch a sheep is just weird, it's not his property to start with.
@@DarrenTurner-d2i never take Gary literally... he's a jokester.
Great video Dara...So does Gary have a book or phone app to keep track of his birds????? Also do you hire a car when you come over here or do you own one???🦦🦦🦦🦦🦦
@@jamesbeeching6138 we have an old used car we bought a couple years ago ... because rental cars are SO EXPENSIVE! Especially when you stay 3 to 5 months!
Yes Gary has apps... hopefully he will respond.
Gary uses an app called iBird. He now has 336 birds on his life list!
He told me that in a text so that I could answer on his behalf since he's trying to keep a low profile and won't talk to people on UA-cam ! 🙄
@@MagentaOtterTravels lolz!! Tell him the pied wagtail is a really common bird in Britain....Often seen in carparks and school playgrounds...They "hunt" insects that sunbathe or get caught in the open on the concrete or tarmac!!
