Longxan is a small town that is attractive for tourists. I like to visit the villagers who are located near the river. The villagers here are very friendly. Although they are poor, I feel that they are very happy and smile always.

I bought a four stage UV water filter system for a Thai family, and I am aware that two other households now also bottle water from it.
Buying drinking water at even at 30 cents a litre is beyond poor families. In rural areas where pesticides are used and water is brown from dirt and plant matter, the more filtration the better.
I cannot convince them to re use glass bottles instead of re using plastic bottles that may emit carcinogenic chemicals that can cause death before old age. Even explaining that plastic containers, especially in Asian heat, can cause damage to the endocrine/hormone system chemically castrating the men does not register. Plastic bottles are light to carry, glass is heavy.
A community water filter for 3 or 4 houses is a major boost to community health, and not buying bottled water is a big budget saver.
A clever beneficiary would lobby the Lao government. It would be hard to compete with the bottled water companies like Coca Cola and Chang Beer.
I look down and say, "Life was meant to be hard."

Do yourself a good deed and spend the next 42 minutes and watch this video. These young kids have not been destroyed like the kids in this unstable country. Giving them just the littlest and smallest token puts the biggest smile of happiness and thankfulness on their face. You'll never get that from from an American kid today. I would never help anybody here ever again. I've learned my lesson. it doesn't work. It's healthier to give to those who are grateful. Seeing them happy is enough of a reciprocation.

Wow Todd and the gang, what an epic vlog to end the series with. It has been a long and dusty road for you guys but for us at home it has been a wonderful adventure at every twist and turn. For me this episode summed up the whole trip. Your love for the people of the Hill tribes and this part of Laos is evident and that is reciprocated by all those you meet. I think that it was very fitting that your generosity was rewarded by the village people who wanted to show their gratitude to these caring, farangs, and invited you to share a beer laos with them! The thirst for knowledge that the children have is amazing and one hopes that their true potential can be realised in due course. Mina is a shining example of how, given the right environment, her thirst for knowledge and dedication to study can bear fruits. It was good that Jeremy and Clare could join you on this trip, which added another dimension. As always, thank you for taking us along with you. You, Neenee and now Mina are legends! God bless you and all the people that you have encountered on your journey. 😀❤🙏

I will second that. The women in those villages are so beautiful, so fit and look very balanced mentally. I would change my whole life by going over there living such a simplified life style where the natives accept you. Where you are not judged. Where there's no divisiveness. And where there's harmony.
Those children were so thankful at receiving a little something. It made him feel recognized.
As the saying goes: "when you are born and bred as an American in the states consider yourself fortunate." Well, that may be true but only to a slight degree these days. I can easily answer that with: "you sure as hell pay a price for it."
Americans are not happy. They are at war with each other. And there's a lot of fakery in the states. Even those who are able to fulfill their life style have gone off the rails. They are a troubled people. They keep busy by going after more. It's never enough. This is their fix for another 24 hours of sanity. People here are money crazy, divisive and untrusting.
In America, no good deed goes unpunished. You step up to the plate and help another in need and they'll ask you one of two questions. Number one: "what are you doing this for?" Number two: "what is it you want?"
The birth of a new mental illness is on its way in the states.

"We don't normally give donations to children without a parent or adult present" Yes, we are always taking care of the kiddies and making sure we have something for them, but in most cases it's always in a community setting. We have to be careful not to send the wrong message.. if you know what I mean.

Wow! Well, that is sad. I thought it was more of an American thing where you had to make sure parents were present. I wouldn't have thought that it was like that over there within a country of great need. But yes, I understand totally what you are referring to especially being a foreigner. Seems like wherever you go today you have to cya.
I'm glad to see that you moved there as an Australian. As far as the states go the country is going down hill. I do not know what America will be called in the years to come. So much adversity happening rather quickly. I'm looking to relocate. I studied up on the Philippines for sometime then scratched it off. Not for me. I was in Vietnam twice, Thailand, Malaysia...but then I just recently dove into the country of Laos. Life seems so workable there. Still hashing out the land ownership issues.
Keep up on your life experiences as you go along.

Land ownership is like anywhere in SEAsia.. you have to be a citizen of that country. Foreigners cannot own land in Laos.

Todd, I hope you don’t work for CIA. These tribal people suffered tremendously and lost a lot of family members during secret war of Laos. Especially Hmong tribe lost the most. Now you get see and show the world how French colonialism did to these tribal people. Each family had to pay a head tax to French colonizer every year. Some families are so poor they had to sell their children to pay their taxes or face prosecution by French soldiers.

Todd there's a special place for you in both Heaven and Nirvana. I can't wait to turn 60 in 33 months, retire to Udonthani with my wife and have beers with you. Please keep supporting those who both need and deserve it. Cheers mate from your redneck friend in West Virginia, USA.
