  • Make a tax payment to the IRS online through the Internal Revenue Service website. This video provides a quick tutorial on using the IRS website to make a quarterly estimated tax payment to the IRS. The same tutorial can be used for tax payments due with tax return filings, payments with tax extensions, and installment payments.
No more mailing of checks! We have seen too many delays, missing checks, and non-receipt of payments. Pay online quickly and directly to the IRS.
This video walks you through how to make a payment to the IRS via bank transfer. But you can also select the payment option to make a payment to the IRS via credit card or debit card.
Do you owe the IRS money? Or need to make quarterly estimated tax payments? If you received a voucher from your tax preparer, keep it nearby in hand. Visit the IRS website and quickly pay your IRS bill directly online. During entry, confirm that the payment information you enter matches the voucher provided from your tax preparer.
Note that the verify page needs to match your personal information on a prior filing with the IRS.

I used directpay on 4/12/24; it was very easy and I received a confirm that the irs is processing the patment. I checked that my checking account was decremented also on 4/12/24. But when will the status say "processed"? The current status says "originated": what does that mean ?

IRS and State don’t talk to one another. Payment plans are negotiated separately, payments are made to each agency independently.

The Tax Year for Verification should be the tax year for a return that you have filed in recent years. It is used for identity verification. Note: this tax year does not have to be the same as the Tax Year for Payment entered in the previous step. For example, if your Tax Year for Payment is 2016 or 2009, you can choose 2013 for your Tax Year for Verification.
The current tax year does not become available until after filing season is over, so you should choose a prior year as your Tax Year for Verification.
Make sure that you enter your name and address as they were on your tax return for the tax year you select.
