Mecca is the holiest city in Islam: the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)and the city where the Quran was first revealed to him. The most prominent landmark on earth - The Holy Ka’bah is located in Makkah. It serves as the religious centre for Muslims, and they pray five times a day by facing the direction of the Ka’bah.
Madinah, the City of the Prophet (PBUH), is the second holiest site in Islam after Makkah. It is situated in the Hejaz region of Western Saudi Arabia, about 340 km north of Makkah. Masjid Quba was the first mosque of Islam and Masjid Al-Qiblatain and where the qiblah was switched to Makkah.
