This song would not be so universally loved if it weren't full of Truth. We get into marriages and other relationships and people check out and stop contributing. We have to stay in the relationship with love and forgiveness to carry people while they are weak. But how long can you stay when your partner is only giving you hurt? You can feel Bono's anguish in the lyrics and the tones of his voice. He has lived this.

Just the line “But were not the same” really sealed this song as one of the all time greats. So simple but so true. The message of this song is that for all we share, we’re different.
Great message in 2020, people will always be different but we need to ficus on communal love and the commonalities which bind us as “One”.

Four years ago in 2019 Hong Kong encountered a very bad time and I wrote this post, followed by the same bad time of 3-years Covid-19 period. Today every time I see my post it make me remembering those were the days.
Great song Great band ! The 90s was still a great time for music. They sang and played with their heart and soul it was still about the music the fans like the 70s I'm 59 and still rocking and will continue ro rock on as long as I have a breath in me .

Correct me but I heard the story was Larry wanted to leave the band; long story short, Bono wrote "One" for Larry..when Bono's lyrics asked him metaphorically: "what else do you want that you don't already have in your sisters and brothers here- with us..? Larry stayed. ...Disaster averted..
