Only read 'The Year of the Quiet Sun' by Tucker. Time travel story that won the John W. Campbell Jr. award. I gave it 7.5 out of 10. Just love all those pulp covers. The one I would most likely read is 'Space Chantey' by R. A. Lafferty, the one you lambasted. I own that same Ace Double so I will eventual get to it. I've had my ups and downs with Lafferty but he is a unique author. On a side note, I think you must live close to another BookTuber I watch, Joseph Reads Books. He went to that same bookstore.
Earthblood is one of my all-time favorites. Pulpy goodness with a multi alien species crew of Space Pirates. What's not to love? I also really like Laumer's Retief stories but be warned they are short story collections disguised as novels with many of the same stories in different books. Great stuff though.
Good stuff. There's a bunch of great punk bands from Denton. I also recently got a huge dollar haul (including the much coveted Bumsider) but no time to record it. Blade is actually a spy series like James Bond but instead of doing spy shit he's sent back in time to lay ladies and have adventures.
I was looking to find the most sci-fi avenger book for you to keep an eye for I think found book #25 the man from Atlantis which I don’t think has any thing to do with the tv show so sadly I don’t think the avenger gets to team up with Patric Duffy would make for a great comic I would read if marvel or dc published it .
Keith Laumer (best book probably Dinosaur Beach) is a talented amateur who never got better. Read him one at a time with lots of better stuff inbetween. Ron Goulart is a great writer who chose to produce silly, sometimes downright goofy, books, but his skill at handling character descriptions and dialog shows through. Wine Of The Dreamers IS a classic. John D. wrote two SF books, the other being Ballroom Of The Skies (I don't count The Girl, The Gold Watch And Everything as SF).
nice bookhaul... I own a newer edition of "Deathworld" by Harrison that also includes some drawings inside the book... I now wonder if they're also in the earlier paperback version.
@andrewb.3076 I just checked, and my edition doesn't have pics. Dangit, I'm a little jealous! I've found that very few mass paperbacks from this era have pics, but some do and it's a nice surprise when I stumble across them. Cheers!
@@PulpMortem yea definitely is always a nice surprise to find some illustrated ones 🙂. It's a novel I still have to read myself. I'm currently reading "The Star Fox" by Poul Anderson.
@@PulpMortem I think it would be cool to hear you do a review on it for sure... I saw themes in it that can be applied to several time periods as well as that this might be one of the books that inspired David Weber or other writers of his ilk since there's some mil-SF going on in this one
I always take it as a good sign when I can see that a used book was actually read before. At least someone thought it was interesting enough to spend some time with. Of course, there are some people who just treat books horribly and totally ruin them :/ But a few kinks are fine.
@@PulpMortem I'd suggest to start with "A Plage of Demons" (hard boiled style meets Doom, gets mental, and rocks all the way) or "Bolo". Nice channel, btw
Supermarket sweep! I recognise the book panic symptoms. Great bargain haul. 👌 🚀📚
Oh the joys of fun finds! :)
I got Brian n. Ball, The Regiments of Night. Pretty cool book so far! And an awesome cover.
@@mightyeroc7284 I've yet to read a Ball, but I'm excited to. Cheers!
I bought a few books from the $1 shelf. That is a nice, overwhelming book haul!
"I don't remember grabbing this"

I know, there's some great ones! I'll look into Joseph Reads Books. And you can definitely read Space Chantey!
Death World by Harrison is a classic. It's the first of a trilogy.
I'm sure my wife will want to have words with you for getting me pawing through every shelf of clearance books we pass, now.
@elfbait3774 I'm just waiting for my wife to see this video :I

@TheBeastReads Pulpy Goodness and Space Pirates? I'm in! That one is moving to the review stack. Cheers!
Sound like one of those tv contests where give five minutes to run the isles of a store .

Yeah, the music scene here is really cool. Oh Blade. So he's Conan the Spy?....hmm. Nope, still not gonna read it!

Groff Conklin, yes, its his real name. Conklin did a lot of anthologies
Another casualty of the dreaded "bookstore panic". Stay strong, my friend. You can get through this.
