    Honestly it was almost a "blessing" in disguise that those kids messed with the nests because had they not, had your young friends not been there to save them, every egg would be lost to human construction.

We really need to educate out kids to respect nature, so sad that some teenagers (who should no better) were out personed by kids. Their gonna be GREAT adults if they keep up with this compassion.

    • @ResidentEvilShrill
      @ResidentEvilShrill 2 роки тому +16

      It's possible that the teens thought that the eggs were non-viable anyway because of the construction and thought that they were "dead" eggs which might as well be unfertilized chicken eggs to them. Ones they don't have to worry about being yelled at by their parents for wasting.
      I'm not excusing them at all. You just said you can't comprehend what causes this, so I gave a possible explanation.

    • @rdizzy1
      @rdizzy1 4 роки тому +27

      Snapping turtle eggs are insanely variable based on temps as well. The incubation time can double (or on the opposite side, be halved) depending on temperature. So depending on how deep the eggs were buried could have had an effect on the initial start to incubation prior to being dug up (as obviously it is warmer closer to the surface). Can be as low as 55 days or as much as 125 days.

    Hey Emily and Ed,
    I wanted to leave a message on this video to tell you the difference you made to my life. I used to be the girl who was deathly afraid of animals. I never wanted to get near animals but I grew up with dogs and they were the only animals that I could socialise with. I started to grow better with animals as I grew up, and eventually I could even pet an alligator for a school incursion! But I was still frightened by snakes. I recently found this chanell a few months ago and at first, I couldn’t watch your feeding videos because I was afraid it would freak me out. But once I kept watching your videos, I realised that the way you showcase and teach people about snakes is amazing! As soon as I watched my first snake feeding video from Snake Discovery, I instantly fell in love with snakes in a way I never thought I could as a young kid. I want to thank you with all of my heart, because of this kind of stuff, I have been thinking about getting a pet snake if you are reading this comment.....THANK YOU (But first I have to convince my dad 😅)

      @@ryanwolf5315 because the 1 Map turtle was released with all of the snapping turtles is simplistic enough for a child to understand in an experience with feeling like an outsider, in a situation when they want to make friends, but they are different from their peers so they are afraid. A good story using these turtles and making it simple and relatable might help, especially for military children, I’m sure many of them have been through something like that. Sadly for many people we lose the most active parts of our imagination when we reach adulthood and the frontal lobes finish developing, this is why many adults don’t understand children, and some of their behaviors. Not everyone loses this though 🙂✌️. I hope I answered your question correctly, if you want more clarification don’t hesitate to ask 🐢. (I received damage to my brain after meningitis and lost much of the active part of my imagination, I retained most of my ability to dream, but miss a lot of the ability to daydream)

    When I was little I found a big common snapping turtle digging a nest and laying eggs by a creek on a property my grandparents used to own, I watched the momma turtle lay her eggs bury the nest and watched the snapping turtle get back to the creek and swimming off, I never got to see the babies hatch but it was really cool watching her make her nest and lay her eggs, she never really snapped at me and I got to touch her shell before she swam off, it was an awesome experience

      Well mutation is the second step towards evolution, wherein it can be initiated by either adaptation to new climate and its environment, or possibly the further improvement of its current suitable incarnation. Some deformities are also considered mutations in a bit, but are very rare among mutations since it's more likely a faulty gene/s gone rogue and manifested strange and/or irregular features. Though Deformities aren't inherited, unless they are legitimate mutation, since deformities are more like false mutations brought about by ancestral gene or misread ones.

    I once took a snapper home, she was fully grown and my mother was surprised that she didn't try to bite me. My mother lives with a yard connected to a stream, so we just set her down over there. She didn't leave for three days... She laid her eggs in a section of the yard, so we put a setup to protect the eggs. They did hatch n' eventually left in the stream. We were good babysitters, which given that I brought her home, it was only fair. My mother loves animals, so she was more than happy to get a setup going for the eggs. (Just as a little edit: the snapper I found was from the other side of said stream, so she didn't move very far and theoretically could have swam up and laid eggs there on her own.)

    Used to hatch thousands of turtle eggs at our old house , if we didn’t dig them up the ground would usually harden and the babies wouldn’t dig out mostly , now at the house we bought we have tons of titles coming up and digging nest in the fields we own , so now it’s just as fun to mark the clutches

      My best advice is to make sure you have a large enough tank. A lot people try to squeeze animals into enclosures that are too small. There are often tanks on Let Go or Craig's List that are much cheaper than you find in stores. Also, turtles have a much more varied diet compared to snakes or lizards. Different food options are a great way to enrich their lives. I know my turtle Spike loves getting different meals. :)

    Those babies definitely had an angel watching out for them and two human guardian angels in those girls!!1 If not for the girls they would have been destroyed in one way or another. If not for them having you to turn to and trusting you to do the right thing, the turtles would have no chance. Thank you, Ed and Emily, the two girls and their parents for listening to their kids and caring about what mattered to them! WOw a lot went in to those turtles making it to this point
