Probably the best acting-drunk I’ve ever seen, what a talent the man was.
Him and Reg Varney are the two best at acting drunk I've ever seen
Watch Freddie Frinton in -Dinner for one- Another masterpiece.
Foster Brooks was an amazing drunk
So true Arthur was an actor par excellence
He also played Capt Mainwaring's brother in one episode and he's drunk too. I thought him an excellent drunk then too!
A comedy masterclass from Arthur Lowe.
Drunk is the hardest thing to play.
Magnificent.
He was a drunk, unfortunately
p28, agreed, it is damn hard.
Some mates and I managed it one night on an Army exercise (dressed as civilians) to get up close to a regular Army APC crew. Regardless of the lack of alcohol on our breath, after a close moment or two, we just managed to pull it off.
@@Adam_M98 He is reported as having suffered from narcolepsy, often mistaken for being drunk.
Playing a drunk convincingly is not easy. Arthur Lowe was a master at it.
Well, he was a drunk in real life
@@Adam_M98 No he wasn't
Well whatever he was in private he was a damn fine actor, this is the spot on what my gramps was like after a few too many sherries😂
He should have got a BAFTA for this alone. They were all great but everything revolved around Arthur Lowe, he was awesome. Can't imagine Dads Army without him
I wonder if the other actors were genuinely laughing at Arthur's performance.
Geoffrey Lumsden certainly looked like he was struggling to control himself.
“Damn revolving doors” says it all really, everyone knows that bit. Everyone knows cos everyone has seen it for real!😂
And that was adlibbed too!
He does it so brilliantly! The top half of his body wanting to arrive before the bottom half, etc. lol
Damn revolving doors. 🤣🤣
Damn revolving doors 😂😂😂
Absolutely brilliant.
Timeless masterpiece
I think I was shown this episode on my last day at middle school 😊
One of the best drunks....
Paul Hogan did a good impression too in his early tv shows sketches.
@@carlkalman1148 just crossed my mind, Steve Coogans performance as Paul Calf drunk on Saturday zoo I think it was a Jonathan Ross show in the late 80's early 90's now I don't know how true this story is but, when Steve Coogan left the studio driving, was stopped by the police after seeing him on TV fully believing he was drunk, he had to explain he was acting...how true or urban myth I don't know...
W.C. Fields and Arthur Housman (Laurel and Hardy) were the masters.
They cut the bit where Captain Square says "drain the glass" and Captain Mainwaring says "Alright I'll drain the bl**dy glass!" and pours it on Square's head.
Fantastic
You cut this clip bloody short, give us the full ....
Classic
Arthur Lowe and Reg Varney made the best comic drunk acting, for soap drunk acting, take a look at Alan Partridge in Brookside Episode 155 he gives a masterclass in drunk acting.
You've cut it
Is this on the UK britbox now?
he's using method acting
😂😂
Classic
