I have adored this piece for many years. This is a spectacularly wonderful performance, goes right to the heart of it, from the opening cello theme to the lovely viola parts etc
There is a brilliance and grandeur in this recording which is remarkable. I have many memories of live performances of the Amadeus and this recording recalls a South Bank concert with Cecil which included this Brahms and culminated in a sumptuous performance of the Mozart G Minor.
This is one of JB's very finest works. I love those opening bars - they kick you alert right away. But so many people don't know this piece. I'd been playing chamber music for about 30 years before I discovered it. What a find!
Eccezionale.
brahms and amadeus quartet...♥♥♥my best ever lesson was with brainin...singing the opening of a-minor quartet: "children, i like your playing, but you dont know what is a phrase...i will sing it for you..." after that i knew what is a phrase.
Amadeus Quartett was with their hosted musicians like in case of quitetts or sextets one of the best quartetts ever. The most other formations sound so noisy and amusical at all.
Wonderful piece and performance. I don't know why but when listen to the first movement of this piece, I always hear some Russian influence in it...specially on the second theme.
@@ElizabethPoet the only reason we know Clara Schumann is that she was married to Robert Schumann. otherwise she would have been forgotten like thousands of second class composers of that period

I'm 72 and have been a classical music fan since my early teens. Why have I never heard of this wonderful work before?
the supreme realization of the opening bars, i wish brahms could hear it.

Reconnecting after many years. They are the best!
Thank you for posting. I love their sound above any other string quartet I have ever heard.
Same.
Heavenly. In every way. Thank you.

ahhh I love the Schumann reference in the last movement!
What’s the reference?? Would love to know :)
Which Schumann? There were two Clara and Robert, the former who was the better known in her time.

C'est romantique à souhait !
masterfully, beautifully, thoughtfully without gypsy.мастерски,красиво,вдумчиво без цыганщины
Damn
Somehow the second movement strikes me as Mendelssohnian.
6:29; 16:20; 17:29; 24:22
