  • Brad Schoenfeld PhD is a well known researcher and author in the fitness space. We disagreed on whether not performing this exercise with bent elbows through the whole range was the best way to do it. The people on instagram couldn't keep their composure, so I didn't bother much with comments. However here is a more thorough explanation of my comment.
    I'd love to have Brad on for a chat about the interesting social experiment that occurs anytime two well known individuals disagree. Not super proud of either of our followers in this instance.

    Listen up guys, this is how respectful discourse in the fitness industry should go

      We need more of this and less butt slapping of your friends and avoiding contrary opinions. On the opposite side of that, with social media, everyone thinks they have a right to behave like a child and thinks that counts as a logical debate, then doesn't understand why people won't address their point of view. Discourse among those dare I say worthy is what we need more of. The comment sections could probably use a little more hand slapping.

    The explanation about why to step out at 4:45 in this video is worth listening to twice. It so concise and makes so much sense.

    Thank you for this video.
    This just shows that practical application is just as important as scientific knowledge. With all due respect to him it is a painful to see someone as smart as Brad butchering the exercise.
    If only people knew how important the elbow flexion component is in a fly, flies work best for the shortened range of the pec but most people never reach that range because of their technique. So many gains left on the table.

    Coach, can you do this with the palm facing the floor? Seems to easier on the shoulder joint.

    • @N1education
      @N1education  2 роки тому

      If you want easier on the shoulder, just do a press around motion. Tons of clips on my IG @coach_kassem

    This is basically Doug Brignole's version of the cable chest press, but not as good. He has the resistance coming more from behind, and keeping the forearms in-line with the cable to reduce involvement of the biceps

    • @N1education
      @N1education  2 роки тому +1

      Doug’s is with a more decline angle, and an arm position I don’t think works great for the pecs. I’m not saying this is the best lex. Exercise by any means. I say that several times in the video.

    Appreciate the video KAS, what do you think about unilateral cable chest fly, since the range of motion is the limiting factor in the bilateral version when transitioning to a single hand cable chest fly you can access more adduction provided that you stabilize with the other hand, would love to hear your thoughts on this one

    • @anthonynakhle1184
      @anthonynakhle1184 2 роки тому

      i would like to add that the reason i mentioned a unilateral cable chest fly instead of the press-around is that stretching the pec with a straight hand (slight bend in the elbow) tend to "feel better"

    • @N1education

      We do tons of them.

  • @DhikaRizkySumanto

    Press around, it's hard to do if the cable setting in your gym is too wide and your other arm have no access to hold onto something. 😔

      sometimes you have to get creative. I've found a way pretty much everywhere. But sometimes you just work with what you got.

    Won't a pec dec machine will give you the arc type ROM needed ?

    • @N1education
      @N1education  2 роки тому +2

      It would. However every one on the market only moves horizontal and it would be better if it had a slight angle to it. So still not perfect fyi.

      @@N1education Agree that most of the Pec machines have a horizontal plane of motion, but would the old Nautilus Nitro pec machine also solve this issue as the pads sit in your elbow joint & move in a roughly 45deg downward motion. Would love your thoughts on this machine. Thanks Steve

    Great explanation, makes a lot of sense. Brad should stay in his lane. He is a research gatherer and extrapolator par excellence, not so much a trainer. The mechanical modelling comment was a red herring fallacy.

    • @N1education

      @@N1education Naturally everyone is entitled to an opinion. The problem I have with this situation is the halo effect. Brad is known as one of, if not the most prominent research authorities in this field. His prominence then gives him undeserved credibility in all other areas of the field.

    Funny, how I discovered for myself how that should be the proper way to perform that exercise and someone like Brad(the “world renowned”) hypertrophy expert, does not.
    p.s. flys should be performed seated with BACK SUPPORT to get the most bang for the buck.

    • @N1education
      @N1education  2 роки тому

      I think a unilateral is a bit higher ranking than the back support because you get support and more ROM. But a back support is a great addition to the bilateral version yes.
