This whole movie is a mirror to the awakening of women in Hollywood. These men are so rich they feel entitled to do whatever they want. The women are drugged and demoralized but forced to forget about the abuse they've had to suffer. Gina Davis represents old school Hollywood and it pains her too deep to remember so she violently would rather forget and look the other way. Frida represents the awakening and has to symbolically kill off this antiquated way of thought to make room for a new paradigm. Channing's monologue towards the end which spotlights how saying the words, "I'm sorry" means so little in the grand scheme of everything is such a telling moment. Monsters don't want you to forgive, they need you to forget. Women working together to bring ultimate justice is also a powerful revilation. Overall I loved the direction, cinematography and storytelling. A very timely release considering Diddy has just been detained and will probably be spending the rest of his life behind bars for his own version of these sick and twisted themes.
The “twink” did not assault the women, he stood by and let the other men do it. That’s why he smelled different. After he watched the men do what they do, he felt guilty so he used the perfume to allow himself to forget. That’s why Channing Tatum’s character told him he’s just as bad for not doing anything to save them
He also seemingly got punched in the eye when he tried to do something, so he was helpless as well as complicit. He tried, failed, then chose to forget instead of warn the women (by wearing the perfume).
I think the movie is deliberately ambiguous about Lucas. I think his character could be interpreted either way. Slater did say that Lucas did nothing to protect himself or the women, which indicates to me that he was a victim too. It's not clear that Lucas chose to take the venom, and honestly I like that the movie leaves it open to interpretation. The real bystander was the guard. The guard made the choice to look the other away. Same with Geena Davis' character. She chose to be complicit. Lucas was a kid who got in over his head.
I thought his character represented young male child stars in Hollywood and what happens to them as well. He seemed younger than the rest of the men. Your analogy is a good one and I needed clarity on his character. Yours makes sense. Thanks. I'm here a month later because I just watched the film last night.
I love some of the symbolism in this. The perfume Desideria is an anagram for Dia De Reis which means day of kings which is obviously a reference to Slater King. And then I love how the serpent in the garden is giving the women the knowledge of good and evil from the trauma by making them remember when the men are seen as God's in the garden of eden. I also loved how they are the red rabbits running from the predators. They are all dressed in white showing their innocence like they don't know whats happeneing to them. But the men are also dressed in white because if the girls dont remember they're essentially innocent too. I think the red chair is interesting because it seems to be the same chair in the interview at the beginning, almost like he took that from the interview as a way to reclaim his sense of control when he is made to apologize for his wrong doings. Then he puts it in his house but it represents basically his throne of lies and sins and it doesn't fit in with the reality of who he is. Its this bright red chair in a mostly blue and white room so it stands out like a sore thumb. So i feel like it's this representation of the worst things he has done and he is trying to integrate it like in therapy, but until he takes accountability for everything at the very end, he can't make it fit. I also love how once you've seen the film, and you rewatch the beginning scenes with Channing Tatum and Frieda's character, you start to interpret his intense eye contact and attention very differently. On first watch yea you know he isnt the good guy, but you could def see how she could interpret his attention as romantic interest in her. But then by the end you actually realize he is a predator stalking his prey in broad daylight. She is being hunted and she doesnt even know and he is basically taunting her. He is staring her dead in the eyes, no blinking, on multiple occasions almost as if he is saying "wow look at this naive, woman. She has no idea who I am or the despicable things we have done to her. All she sees is a tech bullionarie sweeping her off her feet and I am going to take advantage of that in every conceivable way." Its really effective on rewatch.
Excellent analogy of this film. I was trying to figure out the symbolism of the red chair and what you stated made perfect sense. I'm here a month later because I just watched this film yesterday. I would like to hear your thoughts on the young man in the film who obtained the black eye. Subliminally was he a victim too? When I saw his character he seemed childlike. When I saw his black eye I felt he had gotten it from one of the men in the film. Upon the reveal you see him with one of the flowers in his hair and a guy is beating him while the women are being taken advantage of. Was he a representation of what happens to child stars in the industry or am I over thinking it? I am going to watch it again. I liked it, but I walked away wanting more or as if there could be a part two to this movie.
@@tracylee4451 I def could get behind him being a stand in for child stars in Hollywood. I guess I saw him as just a man who didn't intervene on behalf of the women, and was therefore complicit in their assault. I saw him similarly to the assistant character. Just someone who stands by, let's it happen. Then he is upset by what the other men are doing, they beat him and then he uses the perfume to forget
@indiajohnson4149 maybe represents both? The flowers in his hair made me think that he could have been assaulted as well. I think all the thoughts we have may be the way the movie wants us to perceive it, possibly? 🤔
And you can't delete the Polaroids not to mention the fact that some people have their own aesthetic and the products they like to use and perhaps digital is just too Queen it's the reason why some people still like records as opposed to digital renditions of older music.
I am so grateful I have never been in a situation like this but this story was genuinely terrifying to me as a girl! One thing I think this movie did really well (which it ends with us attempts but fails to do) is the scene where Frida is getting on to her friend for going back to her situationship, but then we see her beg her friend not to leave Channing tatumn’s island because it’s the first time she feels visible. As women we can be really judgy to our girlfriends and there’s a stigma where we perceive abused women as weak but it just goes to show you everyone has a weak spot, everyone has a red flag they might excuse, and we can all end up in a situation where we are in harm’s way by a man. Also side note: was I misunderstood or was uma thurman’s son not also being abused on the island? I thought in one of the scenes one of the men was chasing him
Slater said that he never did anything (to abuse or stop the abuse) and nothing was ever done to him. He was the one person who had the ability to choose what happened to him. That’s why Slater had that line of, “there’s a special place in hell for people like you”
@@virgowriter5591no, slayter says “you didn’t do anything” meaning two things 1. He didn’t hurt anyone and also 2. He didn’t help himself or anyone else.
I was waiting for y’all to review this film. I thought it was wonderful, and an actual terrifying horror. “Blink Twice” I would say the Black woman version of “Get Out” it’s one of the most smarty done “socially conscious” horror films in years. And the casting of the male characters was so smartly done, because they’re all men that we know for their comedic roles so we’re disarmed by their presence and it’s harder to believe they would do something horrible. I thought of that because I remember the film, “Barbarian” and Justin Long’s casting in movie. Horror as a genre of film is just getting better and better! Love you guys!
I didn’t think it was predictable. I obviously knew that Tatum was up to something very nefarious But whipping memories wasn’t on my mind especially by just looking at the trailer. I really enjoyed it. Suspenseful, well done and well tined comedic relief and creative!
@@LeslieJones-hl4jc I didn’t watch the trailer beforehand so I was thinking it was about to be some demonic horror movie and it ended up being a traumatizing psychological thriller 💀💀💀
@@la2atlactually it’s would explain more of what Bill Cosby did. If you recall his victims were drugged along with lost memory. Maybe her mother shared stories. She definitely gave us a sneak peek of what happens in the Elites spaces. On a subliminal level a lot was revealed. Like Slater King was a victim of MKUltra split personalities. I even think his therapist was a part of his programming and to keeping in check, Gina Davis was Slater’s handler which the ending makes Freida his new handler. Satisfying ending, 3 1/2 ⭐️for me.
Also, inititally, I thought the plot of the movie was going to be that Channing Tatum and the therapist were conducting an experiment on the island seeing how far they could traumatize the women and make them forget with the flower. I thought he was going to say his next big venture as a businessman was developing this as a drug and we were going to see that Channing thought in some sick twisted way he was helping people. It also would have been a good way to explain more of Channing's and Frida's backstories. Like he preys on women who have also experienced deep trauma and thinks he's helping them by spraying them with the perfume.
I also thought something of that nature was going on with the therapist (Kyle Maclachlan) and Channing Tatum. There was one quick scene, where he pops in on the island party then mentions to Tatum, he had better get back to his mountain. When it is revealed that a drug was being used on the women, that reference made sense. He was concocting the potion.
I think having a "good" motivation would've taken away from how truly, sociopathically evil they are? It would've given the story more structure, but I think it's more terrifying that there is no grand motivation behind what they do. They do it because they're bored and they can, and since that's true to reality, it's a lot more impactful and haunting.
To me, the biggest plot hole is the lack of attention given to the damage that would have been caused by the nightly sexual assaults. I'm no woman, but I'd think that being a victim of forcible rape would certainly result in serious injuries down there. At the very least severe pain. It's never addressed once.
They should put Ghislaine Maxwell in a room making her watch this movie telling her that during the end credits she'll be shot in the back of the head. LOVE THE ENDING
Not necessarily, I think it shows the different layers and when ur being intoxicated constantly and in an environment that should b paradise, it makes less likely to b aware of ur physical pain. I thought this was exceptionally well done when exposing covert abuse
For her first time directing I’m very proud of Zoe 👏👏👏 Agree it was predictable, but I was thoroughly entertained. The editing was great to me, both visual and sound. The things that stood out to me were: 1- everyone kept tripping and falling at the end. Like an abundance of tripping and falling. She also fell in the very beginning of the film, and also the previous year. It has to have a deeper meaning. 2- the innocent white granny panties and matching bra all the women were supplied, I guess that makes all the sexual assault more satisfying to these men? The white dresses were very sacrificial like. But here’s the thing- were they each supplied with duplicate outfits or were they wearing the same ones over and over? This surprises me that these women didn’t discuss their outfits at all especially on their girls day. 3- I thought I saw the twink running from one of the men during one of the evening scenes, which made me think he was being assaulted too. Maybe I’m wrong. 4- did anyone else catch the Lenny workout video in the very beginning when Frida was scrolling? Makes me think there were other Easter eggs we may have missed. 5- I was waiting for the indigenous staff to have issue with this white man buying their island but it never happened. 6- I don’t normally say Channing Tatum is a good actor, but in this particular role he was great. Great review as always guys ❤️
I thought the “twink” was being assaulted also but then I saw on wiki that he was refusing to assault the girls along with the guys so they beat him and that’s why king says he hates people who do nothing.
I just thought about her falling in the beginning of the film and when she had a flash back of falling and hitting her on the rock the first time she visited. I throughly enjoyed the film and love the ending! She basically said you gon pay me for my pain and suffering 💅🏾😂
He was saying and shouting I’m sorry over and over, then snapped right out of the emotion to show that the words have no meaning, as he said at the beginning.
I don't know how many times I have seen that documentary, but I know I am nearing 20. It is most definitely that good. RIP Pepper LaBeija, who in my my opinion, explained the different "houses", and what the Balls meant to those who put everything they had into walking in them.
Thx for the reality check about Freda's pixie staying cute the whole time without gel, flat irons, a scarf, nothing! She has swam and sweat and has a perfect s curl the next day...newp! Lol!
Thanks! Saw a spoiler free review where this guy constantly said that he didn't want to spoiler the movie and therefore made me verrry curious. Really was waiting for your review❣
The constant snapping of Polaroids was disturbing because it reminded me of an Law & Order: SVU episode in which this p3do went old-school with Polaroids which doesn't leave a digital footprint etc. But it also gave me MOMENTO vibes. I was starting to think this was done to remind him of what really happened so he wouldn't keep forgetting also. Because I think the men were both victimizers and victims as well. I thought maybe Christian Slater's character was maybe deep undercover and was trying to chronicle the crimes committed.
Your channel is among my favorite for film reviews..I love how you two are super thorough. After just coming out of the theatre, watching this makes so much more sense
I loved your idea about the red bags being gifts for the men to use again with their wives, girlfriends, or acquaintances. It's the perfect disguise, as the women wont even remember what happened. Zoe is really onto something with this movie. There is a report in France rn of a man who drugged his wife and allowed other men to assault her. She had no memory of the events and only found out when the police arrested him on unrelated charges and searched his phone. Apparently, he had been doing this to his own WIFE for YEARS!
This was a truly terrified moment when they just began having flashbacks. I mean yeah it’s cliche right, but the movie lulls you with all the party vibes and jump scares to the point I wasn’t expecting the crazy insane details that went on at night. I had to take my partner home since she was affected so much! Will watch again, alone or with friends!
i think they wanted you to be impressed by yellow snakes. Amazing how the snake geniuses are all stupid when Stephen Speilberg movies and Ron Howard and so many other movies layout backward moons from last crescent to full moon.
The sound in this movie was incredible- it was jarring and made me feel somewhat disorientied and uncomfortable. Certain sounds were disproportionately loud or made me jump- almost as if as a viewer you are somewhat under the influence of a substance that messes with your senses. That and bright flashes of light definitely made me feel that things were just off. I loved the look and sound of this movie, and I thought it was extremely well acted. Also the scenes of the women running across the open fields in their flowy white dresses- so eerie once we learn they were being chased and hunted every night
15:04 DEEP...and well/beautifully said. Maybe...the chair is him unconsciously projecting his losing control of the situation. When I think of chair, I think of "sit", like the command. His command isn't working like it used to.
This movie felt like a Jordan Peele movie. I was thoroughly impressed with the pacing and story unfolding in front of us. It made me have so many questions and they all were answered. No plot holes, (aside from the physical trauma of SA as said above) everything was great. Loved it. Seeing it the second time, I am seeing so many Easter eggs that I am not seeing in any other spoiler reviews. Maybe I should do my own? 👀 10/10
OK, my friend hangs with some freaky super rich guys and she has always said to me that these super rich guys are like that - maybe not murderous but freaky. She LOVED this movie. But she was triggered and now I want details! I saw a screening and then took a friend tonight. Do these guys take the perfume home to play elsewhere? What else is in those red bags? I truly enjoyed this movie. And I loved the party scenes in the first two acts. It really captured the scene. Frida could have worn an elegant updo at the end.
makes sense. like all the “freak-offs” that sean p. diddy combs was (allegedly) into according to the lawsuit filed against him in november 2023 which he settled the very next day for a reported $30M.
The one that you were calling "twink" was also being assaulted. That's why the girls weren't going after him. Because I believe he was crawling away from Slader in the flashback
Wrong, in the flashback slater was chastising him for freaking out about what was going on. I just watched it, he was saying to him “grow up!” As the young man is saying “this is so fucked up”. He was not abused. He did nothing out of fear for his own safety. He chose to forget.
@@hanbobanableim nott sure about that. In the long shot scene of the women being assaulted Channing Tatum is indeed yelling at him to grow up as hes horrified. Just watched it with subtitles. There may have been another flashback though
I feel like Channing was trying to make the young guy feel culpable and prevent from realising he's a victim himself - but that's just my interpretation!
I think the chair situation was just a mere reflection of Slater’s psychological disorder and how he wants to control everything. I think the bob wig symbolizes one of the most powerful women in history…Queen Cleopatra.
Also found it a bit odd, given that this was directed by a woman, that each Day 2 they just have no physical changes or pain related to the brutal sexual assaults theyve suffered the night before?
Yep. Should have been another magical indigenous drug or medication around that *almost always* heals cuts and bruises. Except ... not that that would help with internal injuries.
@@itscalebgreenand yet they never mentioned *feeling* pain. sarah saw the bruise on her arm, never said it hurt. the young guy had a black eye, never once said his eye was hurting. seems like ongoing forced entry sex (rape) would’ve led to vaginal soreness/scarring. might be a bit too much to address head on in a film though. too heavy for a general audience. even today. although… have you seen netflix series “baby reindeer?’ that show very directly addresses feeling the physical pain following rape that occurred while under the influence of hardcore drugs in an episode.
@@wahoo4uva They were also heavily drugged the entire time, so it’s very possible that they were numb to a lot of the pain they were feeling because it was revealed in various scenes that the characters were disoriented
This seems eerily familiar to a VICE documentary about Devil’s Breath or Scopolamine, a flower indigenous to S America that makes one coherent but susceptible to suggestion, like getting roofied but you’re fully present. Super creepy stuff y’all.
I honestly think this reminded me of a typical M. Night Shyamalan movie style ending. Because I didn't see the big reveal that she was there many times before, coming.
No escape necessary. The female “guests” are given the perfume in their guest bags when they go home. She married him because she couldn’t even pay her rent before and had to be a cater waiter. She’s getting that bag!! 😂The film also has the theme of taking power back which is another reason she married him . She takes Slater’s power, influence and money and he is now the victim.
Watching this on Saturday for my bday I can't wait! Also I'm pretty sure Joseph has already seen the news but just in case he didn't Janet announced she's doing a residency in Vegas 😄
This is very triggering as currently there is a court case in France where for the last 10 years or so.. a husband (Dominique Pelicot) drugging his wife (both 70’s) and letting strangers have sex with her and she caught STDs A real horror story 😩😩😩🤯🤯🤯🤯
I had no idea what this was about based off of the poster. It just showed Channing Tatum taking a picture of a terrified woman. At first I thought it was maybe a 'Most Dangerous Game' type thing or human trafficking.
I enjoyed this review more than the movie itself. I'd rather it have ended her reporting all these ppl get her money that way. Being sa how can she still be ok marrying dude smelling the perfume And being on the island afterwards without it not causing some type of ptsd. As a person that suffered real sa this ending was unrealistic in my opinion. She was enamored by a monster. Review was 10/10 Movie ...it was ok. Like sa from the standpoint of a person that's never been through it
I did too. He's very "pretty" and slightly feminine, and he wakes up one day with a shiner that he didn't remember getting. So, I assumed that the abusers were abusing him as well. I didn't get the sense that he was in on the abusing.
Did it show him engaging in the abuse during one of the flashbacks? It happens quickly so it's an easy thing to miss. I thought he was being abused the whole time too.
@@StevenE-l9yI remember a scene where he was running followed by him sat on the ground crying while the chess guy tries like grabbing/calming him? I assumed he was being abused but maybe he was just an unknown invited that ended up being unable to take what was happening (like, they thought he'd enjoy it too) and so got drugged
@@greyblueme9711I assumed that he was shocked by what he was witnessing not necessarily abused but upon witnessing what was actually about to take place he broke. And the other guy is trying to calm him down so he doesn’t do anything or report anything and just keeps on having “ a really great time”
Thank you for this. I saw this last night and was so confused about 1) The red bags 2) Red Rabbit 3) Therapist for Slater King - Kyle McKlachlan. You just cleared up a lot of nagging questions I had. Very nice and I felt like I was discussing with friends.
Spoilers! The red bags = these all had perfume in them I believe. The perfume is what causes memory loss. This is given to all guests leaving so they forget as they leave. They are goodbye goodie bags. But the perfume is also given to the inhabitants of the island daily I believe as well. Red Rabbit = this answer Im 100% sure. Frida the main character had been to the island before as a victim. Last time she was there, she had red rabbit designs on her nails. The caretaker recognized Frida during the movie. She called her “Red rabbit” because she remembered her rabbit design nails. The therapist = it was implied at the end that he played a big role in the horrible abuse cases. I believe in the end, security is scene or heard approaching him
@@jay-dubb.dubb.68 It was never explained but I could only imagine he sent her back because he's fond of her and refused to kill her. Plus with the injury she sustained from the escape attempt, he probably thought it best to have her get help rather than wake up with a gnarly injury and still be dubious of him and the island.
Lol it's kind of funny listening to you all breaking things down so literally when the whole movie is a metaphor. I loved the movie and the social commentary and symbolism is just 👌🏽 I personally think the scariest part is the abuse the men subjected them to then partying with them the next morning/day, like the ultimate gaslight and lack of care, empathy and humanity to do something so souless
She probably married him and has control of all his money and influence. I mean id probably do that too a evil person that is rich if I could memory wipe them. Pretty smart ending
I just watched the movie before this review. I loved it. One of the jarring moments to me is when Frida asked Slater if he was going to kill her and he says that she’s his best friend. It was so jarring. Again and again she was his blind victim and he knew her more than she knew him. So crazy. Love the symbolism throughout the film and the dark, ominous tones!
Hey there guys! Yesterday I went to the theatres to see "Cuckoo" and "My Penguin Friend." Both were excellent. I am surprised you guys did not review the latter film.
Did anyone else find the depiction of the locals/indigenous in this movie to be for lack of a better word, problematic ... Indigenous person doing their job, smiling + spooky music = evil? Felt very OTHERy to me
No problem with the depiction of all the rapists being straight white men though, huh? We shouldn’t make the locals look like they always do on those vacation islands.
I didn't only because that's a tried and true "this place is not what it seems" scary movie trope: workers who just move obediently and robotically with cheesy smiles plastered across their face even while doing the most mundane things.
The red sofa, probably represent the memories we forget, but we feel something is not right but cant quite place it. Its the same colour, as the flowers, the perfume, the bags, the blood. Its all the same thing
I think also because they make a lot of mess chasing the women around, they probably have to replace furniture and that piece didn’t sit right with him.
my only complaint is that the build up should’ve started much sooner. Considering the nature of what they were being forced to endure, there would’ve been far more warning signs besides some dirt under the nails or a one off bruise. It would’ve helped with the pacing too, especially if they added one or two other girls to the cast, they could’ve had them slowly disappearing as the film went on but never acknowledging it until Frida’s memories come back. Also, I was a little confused by the twink’s role. Was he being abused too? Channing at the end says he’s done “nothing” but I can’t imagine they’d keep him on the island just to brainwash him again every single morning if he’s refusing to participate. That makes him a huge liability and defeats the point of being there. Channing says he doesn’t even know who he is in the first act, so you’re telling me he invited this random twink to rapist island without first making sure said twink is indeed a rapist? That doesn’t make a lick of sense to me
My biggest issue, which interestingly speaks to Joseph's issue with Frieda's hair, is the character Frieda is being played by a Black actress but the character herself is not a black woman. As a result, they don't make any allowance for things like if she was spending days on end in the water and sun with no styling/haircare products her little pixie cut would have reverted in some way to her natual texture (and also the stupid "power blunt cut" at the end). More obviously, was the way Frieda was completely unconcerned by the prospect of being on a remote island without access to her phone or any means of escape or contact with the outside world while accompanied by mostly white people. That is just NOT the worldview of a woman, who is also Black. That is not a thing for ANY Black person (see Get Out). Even THE most golddigging of golddiggers accustomed to getting "flew'd out" by various sugar daddies, would have exercised more caution or at the very least been a little more "aware" of situations as they played out. AND Black Girl Code is when one friend wants to leave, we ALL leave. No one gets left behind. Her willingness to allow her friend to go without her was a screaming red flag to me that Frieda wasn't Black. I'm not saying that her character couldn't have found herself in the same position. I'm not saying that we couldn't have had nearly the exact same movie. I'm just saying Blink Twice with a Black actress playing a Black main character would have gotten to possibly these same places in a different way (again, see Get Out or Us). And there were tons of other context clues that while Naomi Ackie is Black, the character Frieda didn’t "read" Black. Also, Zoë kind of alluded to that in her press for the film. She said Naomi was the "best actress for the role" not a Black actress playing a Black role. Small distinction but a distinction nonetheless, that I think explains the hair thing amongst other nonsensical things. Just saying.
Levon Hawke’s name is pronounced like Leave On. He was named after the drummer and a singer of the group “The Band”Levon Helm. Ethan was a huge fan of his.
Nick and Joseph! First of all, I want to say hello all the way from Chi-Town and that I love and appreciate your content! Also, I just came from seeing this film at the theater, and I believe your content may be shadow banned. Not only did I not find the review when I specifically searched for it, but I had to go through my watch history because I started it prior to seeing the film, but did not finish the review. That’s all, now back to the review of this movie!
I found the reveal of it being epstine very drawn out and predictable. As soon as I saw a trigger warning for sexual assault and the set up of women being sent to a billionaires island I was just waiting for this to reveal itself and end. I did not like this movie but I love fish jelly.
FYI to people in the comments the young twink was NOT being abused. He was protesting and then being silenced. I just watched the scene back of the first big flashback, Channing Tatums character is telling him to “grow up” as in “stop being a baby about this reality”. Which is why he chastised him about doing nothing at the end of the movie. He chose to forget the ordeal… horrible.
Zoe Kravitz and Jordan Peele need to colab and direct a thriller movie together.
She is very good at creating disturbing tension with her timing and Peele's creepy ideas, dialogue, and storytelling would be perfect..

That’s why Channing Tatum’s character told him he’s just as bad for not doing anything to save them
I thought he was brought there to be abused as the women, but this certainly makes sense...
i wasnt sure of he too might have been assaulted
Ahhh yes thank you!! The symbolism was beautiful the entire way through, I’m excited to watch it for a second time
Excellent analogy of this film.
The polaroids act as a way to extort everyone into keeping quiet. Because they are probably pictured doing these awful things so they wont tell.
and before they perform the heinous acts, the pictures act as trophies.
And you can't delete the Polaroids not to mention the fact that some people have their own aesthetic and the products they like to use and perhaps digital is just too Queen it's the reason why some people still like records as opposed to digital renditions of older music.
(👀) Prince Andrew looking at you.....
I thought in one of the scenes one of the men was chasing him
Yes the boy was a victim as well and he had no memory of it!
Slater said that he never did anything (to abuse or stop the abuse) and nothing was ever done to him. He was the one person who had the ability to choose what happened to him. That’s why Slater had that line of, “there’s a special place in hell for people like you”
At brunch, someone mentioned his black eye, so I thought he was being abused also.
I thought the same, he seemed victimized in the abuse flashbacks. And what's with the black eye?
Just left the theater and couldn’t click this video fast enough.
And left no context
I felt that the “twink” might also have been getting assaulted
You too😂😂😂😂😂
This is Epstein island

I’m got the impression Greena Davis was Slaters sister and he helped her forget her trauma. Like she was patient zero
@@itscalebgreensame.. I thought it was gonna be “rich people (men and women included), bring unsuspecting victims to island and do something demonic”

So this was a reenactment of Sean Combs and why he is in trouble.
Omg this is precisely what drove me to the movie theater to watch it tonight. Wildly ironic in storytelling indeed.
Sean Combs or Epsteins Island… who knows
In light of the whole Diddy Puff Daddy thing they should release this movie!
"Grab your girlies. Grab your florals." - Blake
Good ol😊 Blake
Grab your perfume! 😂
😭
Also, inititally, I thought the plot of the movie was going to be that Channing Tatum and the therapist were conducting an experiment on the island seeing how far they could traumatize the women and make them forget with the flower. I thought he was going to say his next big venture as a businessman was developing this as a drug and we were going to see that Channing thought in some sick twisted way he was helping people. It also would have been a good way to explain more of Channing's and Frida's backstories. Like he preys on women who have also experienced deep trauma and thinks he's helping them by spraying them with the perfume.
I think I would have preferred this.
Would've made a lot more sense.
This movie went off the rails in the third act and crossed into the absurd.
You blew the whole movie. At least the ending is a one-minute AWESOME
The soundtrack is fire!
You already made this point! Had same thought. Well put.
I knew there was going to be a plot twist but I was NOT expecting it to be so depraved. But I liked the message and the ending left me so SATISFIED 😂❤
BLINK TWICE!! *blink*blink*. You guys are adorable.
That was so cute
Your points 2 and 5 were so good! I would've lovedddd to see point 5 elaborated on too!
I just thought about her falling in the beginning of the film and when she had a flash back of falling and hitting her on the rock the first time she visited. I throughly enjoyed the film and love the ending! She basically said you gon pay me for my pain and suffering 💅🏾😂
And did. She took over the entire company. Excellent revenge film. Never wanted women to win so bad in my life in a movie 😂
Who's got the lighter?? 🪔🎉
Why did the lighter symbolize.. what did the passing it around and keeping it symbolize?
He was saying and shouting I’m sorry over and over, then snapped right out of the emotion to show that the words have no meaning, as he said at the beginning.
Just calling him 'Channing Tatum' the whole review instead of his character name is iconic 😎
Hey guys, your INTRO is always a KILLER !!! Never get tired of the way you introduce yourselves and then the title of the movie. Wow !!!
"The little twink?" Haha. I wasn't ready for that!!😂

I don’t think the twink was assaulting the women I think he was being assaulted. You can see him being chased and tackled in one of the flashbacks
That's what I was thinking too. Because the film never answered how he got the black eye. So it could've been from a woman... Or a man.
Yeah Slater was only telling him he had done nothing as a power play to gaslight him and make him feel complicit
Sounds like young Miss Kravitz made an interesting film! Will definitely check it out when it hits Netflix.
Worth going to the theater too
I loved it in theaters!
It will be on Prime, it's an Amazon MGM movie
It sends a horrible message, my opinion.
It was not boring or that awful like some might say.

The original title was Pussy Island. Appropriate. I did like the ending. So did the audience I was with. I’m glad I picked this over The Crow.

"the little twink?" that made me choke on my water
The constant snapping of Polaroids was disturbing because it reminded me of an Law & Order: SVU episode in which this p3do went old-school with Polaroids which doesn't leave a digital footprint etc. But it also gave me MOMENTO vibes. I was starting to think this was done to remind him of what really happened so he wouldn't keep forgetting also. Because I think the men were both victimizers and victims as well. I thought maybe Christian Slater's character was maybe deep undercover and was trying to chronicle the crimes committed.
great point about the photos
Joseph needs to be hired as a hair consultant on any movie with wigs. Make it happen Hollywood
I definitely think Channing’s character was assaulted with his sister as a child. But they should have explored this more
I think that’s where the trauma from the red chair comes from. It’s shows the trauma is still there even though he can’t remember it. It’s a tick
I’m so glad you guys reviewed this movie! I couldn’t wait for this review ❤
I love Joseph’s wig critiques
This was a truly terrified moment when they just began having flashbacks. I mean yeah it’s cliche right, but the movie lulls you with all the party vibes and jump scares to the point I wasn’t expecting the crazy insane details that went on at night. It’s clear in the movie the snake is a viper.
i think they wanted you to be impressed by yellow snakes. Amazing how the snake geniuses are all stupid when Stephen Speilberg movies and Ron Howard and so many other movies layout backward moons from last crescent to full moon.
The movies specifically states it’s a viper.
My movie watching friend and I just watched this as a random pick on a Tuesday night. We were NOT prepared 🤣

@Poopinpooop he's literally being chased and assaulted in the flash back whilst the girls are being assaulted
I think the red sitting chair is what he sat in during his "apologies".
You’re right! 😮
Also found it a bit odd, given that this was directed by a woman, that each Day 2 they just have no physical changes or pain related to the brutal sexual assaults theyve suffered the night before?
maybe the men had small ding-a-lings.
Yep. Should have been another magical indigenous drug or medication around that *almost always* heals cuts and bruises. Except ... not that that would help with internal injuries.

@@itscalebgreenand yet they never mentioned *feeling* pain. sarah saw the bruise on her arm, never said it hurt. the young guy had a black eye, never once said his eye was hurting. seems like ongoing forced entry sex (rape) would’ve led to vaginal soreness/scarring. might be a bit too much to address head on in a film though. too heavy for a general audience. even today. although…

Don't overthink the mechanism, just lean into the plot!
I honestly think this reminded me of a typical M. Night Shyamalan movie style ending. Because I didn't see the big reveal that she was there many times before, coming.
How did she escape the island the first time? And why did she marry him?
No escape necessary. The female “guests” are given the perfume in their guest bags when they go home. She married him because she couldn’t even pay her rent before and had to be a cater waiter. She’s getting that bag!! 😂The film also has the theme of taking power back which is another reason she married him . She takes Slater’s power, influence and money and he is now the victim.
Watching this on Saturday for my bday I can't wait! Also I'm pretty sure Joseph has already seen the news but just in case he didn't Janet announced she's doing a residency in Vegas 😄
This is very triggering as currently there is a court case in France where for the last 10 years or so.. a husband (Dominique Pelicot) drugging his wife (both 70’s) and letting strangers have sex with her and she caught STDs
A real horror story 😩😩😩🤯🤯🤯🤯
I had no idea what this was about based off of the poster. It just showed Channing Tatum taking a picture of a terrified woman. At first I thought it was maybe a 'Most Dangerous Game' type thing or human trafficking.
I enjoyed this review more than the movie itself.

Why did I think the twink was being abused the whole time
Same
I'm still confused about why she saved him in the end, and what did she do to him? Kinda made him obey to her or what?

Did anyone else find the depiction of the locals/indigenous in this movie to be for lack of a better word, problematic ... Indigenous person doing their job, smiling + spooky music = evil? Felt very OTHERy to me
I think that was purposeful but I would've loved to have them actually more explained at the end

I really enjoyed this movie.
Reminds me of Jordan Peele.
my only complaint is that the build up should’ve started much sooner.
That doesn’t make a lick of sense to me
That's why I think he's a victim too. And I think Slater was gaslighting him at the end.
Ohhh, I’ve been waiting for this one!
The "Yellow Lighter" was a giveaway, it was always missing! Jess was always like, where is my Lighter!. I loved this film. Great Job Miss Zoe!
Christian Slater I had the biggest crush on him 😅❤
Clarence in "True Romance"! My fave!
Thank you! UA-cam is mad at us? Lol
@@fishjellyfilmreviews I wouldn’t say hate, but it’s definitely giving messy 🤭.
“The little Twink ?!” Really ….? 😂😂😂
