ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
I was new to shooting video on Mirrorless / DSLR Cameras when I bought the Canon EOS R6. I heard that shooting in Canon Log was the way to go, but I was having hard time gauging the exposure, and kept searching for tips on how to shoot good video in log on the Canon EOS R6 and R5. After some trial and error in the field here are the three things I learned:
Thing One: Shoot in Canon Log but turn on Video Assist. Video Assist allows for you to capture the Log color profile, but view a more saturated and contrasty image on the camera. It makes it way easier to get proper exposure on these mirrorless cameras when shooting video.
Thing Two: When shooting video on a mirrorless camera you can lift the viewfinder to your eye and monitor the image. If you're having trouble seeing the back LCD screen in the bright sun, bringing the viewfinder to your eye can be a life saver for judging exposure. You can also take advantage of the exposure meter, in video mode, by doing a half press on the shutter button, and having the exposure meter pop up.
Thing Three: Transcode your footage. When you shoot the Canon EOS R6 and R5, you capture h.264 clips in an MOV wrapper. You can drop those clips directly into your timeline, but it can really bog things down, transcoding all of your media to Apple Pro Res will help you cut like butter. This will hopefully prevent Adobe Premiere from giving you stuttering footage during playback.
I shot this video on my GoPro Hero 9 and Canon EOS R6. Additional footage courtesy of AJ Lapray.

Hi Tom ! Thanks for the third tip. I never tought about it. Can you just tell me what software you are using for the transcoding ? You maybe told it, but my english is not very good 😅
Great tips. Trying These on my r6 soon. What is that compressor program?
I would live to help my poor iMac Little xD
Great tips
why are you running with a mask on?
OMG, you are wearing a mask outdoors...
A real bummer you can't save video settings to C1 C2 C3, only still photo settings. That's what was great about the EOS R. You could save both. Of course the R5 you can save them like the R. For hybrid shooters this is a must. And that's why I'm giving the R6 the finger.
Hopefully they change that with the next firmware update! But next time I buy a body, it’ll be an R5! Hopefully a mark 2 version it it comes out!
Thank you for the tips . Like Buddha!
Im filming myself for UA-cam and it doesn't stay focused
Very interesting. When you’re using the camera to film yourself make sure auto focus is switched on, on the side of the lens. Then make sure you have the selection for face tracking in the auto focus selection, and it should track with you no problemo and keep you in focus.
@@TomMorrisFilm Yes I did that. Its like it keep blurring out my eye when doing a makeup look. UGHHH!
@@Ateyaaa TRY F6.3 or higher
